I appreciate this video!! Definitely the best one for what I had to do! Had a bolt broke off in a bolt hole for the starter that I almost didn’t catch and was only just a few days away from dropping my motor in my truck! Did exactly what was shown in your video and it came right out! Thank you again!
Great to hear! Thank you for watching and sharing your fabulous results, we truly appreciate it Jason, have a great day my friend. mad Mike the hammer SPC
Once again a very good video my friend. Please let me add my 2 cents. I've been drilling out broken bolts for over 40 years as an airplane mechanic. My word of advice is when you drill into steel its with low speed and high pressure. When you drill into non ferrous metals as aluminum and copper it is with a high speed and low pressure. That along with some good lubrication will save your drill bits from heating up and dulling out. Also if you drill steel with high speed what happens is you work harden the surface and will make it very difficult to get another bit to drill into the surface.
Thanks again and I really like them easy outs your using.
thanks for sharing
Left handed drill bits are a gift FROM God.a lot of broken bolts will ✈ fly out of that hole like magic man
I've said before, I don't know why they even make right handed bits anymore except to remove left handed threads. I'll never buy another right handed bit set.
Nicely Done, Very Professional, Thanks For Sharing...👍🏼
left handed bits are great if Your left handed. I prefer right handed bits
@@danneumann3274 🤔🤔🤔
Great tip on how to get the hole centered. That's always been a huge issue....no more!!! Thanks Captn'
Broken studs are always an adventure. 7/10 times I end up drilling out and chasing the threads with a tap. Usually because the last guy didn't put never-seize on when they should've.
... or worse some idiots put lock-tite that somewhat bonded with threads
naa its just over torqued bolts. I just busted 2 out of 4 cause 2 were not to spec. never over tighten
Gotta say that kind is my favorite too. But when a rusty exhaust manifold stud breaks, that's when the real fun starts haha
I'm with you on the heavily rusted bolts we just hit those with a torch and they come right out, but they can be a real pain
I literally watched tons of these. The best one on line is right here. Nobody else clarifies shit.
Mike you are the "Master Detailer" . This video takes it to a new level. Thank you Sir.
Thank you Kyle we truly appreciate that my friend and I mean it
Thanks, never knew to use oversized bits to make the first part of the extraction!
The using large drills to get the center and cleaning up any burrs on the end is such a great idea! Thanks!
Glad it was helpful! Thank you for watching and sharing Tyler! Have a great day. mad Mike the hammer SPC

Great info. About to try getting a header bolt out of an aluminum head. Wanted good info before trying. Here we go....
Glad it helped! Good luck with your bolt removal! Have a fantastic day thanks for being with us! mad Mike the hammer SPC
Awesome explanation and very useful for broken bolts. Thank you
SPC I can watch your videos all day and still learn something new each time!
Thank you my good friend that means a lot to us more than you know
Great demo.
Straight to the "point."
I broke an aluminum bolt off in the throttle body of my 87 vette. Its a bolt for the tps. This makes me stress about it less. Just subbed
Thanks friend. Needed a reminder after being out a while. Broke two brittle bolts off in a 20+ year old power steering pump. Heres to extracting, although can’t use the big bit method it’ll mess with the seal on those job, but I’ll try it in the future.
The best way is to lay a nut on top of it, then wire feed weld the center of the nut to the broken bolt/stud and while still hot, unscrew it. Best way to remove them ever!!
you are correct and we do that all the time but most diyers dont have that mig welder available to them :)
Most people don't know how to weld and don't have any welding equipment.
ya most people dont have that gear. would need to take it to a shop. like me I think im gona have to. ive got left hand bits but I dont have the space get do the work
This was the best video on removing a broken bolt, that Iv'e seen yet.It has educated me alot, and this is what I will try and do next time. Thanks alot for a great video.
Glad it helped Jeff! Thank you so much for watching and sharing, we really appreciate it, hope you have a great day my friend. mad Mike the hammer SPC

right on sir, doing a 30yr old outdoor spigot and sheared off the screw head of the handle, as expected... so,,,,, boom and now I know good tips to start small build up thanks for that huge ...
Our pleasure to help! Thank you for watching and sharing, have a fantastic day my friend. mad Mike the hammer SPC
Great video! now let's see I will be as good as you in this clip. But I already feel more encouraged though. Thanks
Glad I could help! Thank you for watching and sharing, hope you have a great day my friend. mad Mike & team
@@SweetProjectCars it worked. I'm so happy now. Thanks again.
Those are the good extractors. I always add a little heat (torch) now and seldom have to repeat the process.
I want to see you extract a steel bolt that has been broke off flush in an aluminum engine block under the header where you cant see it. This is quickly turning into an engine out procedure.
Well, it always depends on how much tenacity you have, we will do whatever it takes to get a busted bolt out. Thanks for watching and sharing, have a great day and all the best on your project my friend, I feel your pain. :( mad Mike the hammer SPC
Another great video, many thanks. I’ll definitely use these tips.
Great video! I have the tool didn't know how to use it until now. Was wondering why you needed the other drill bits and now I know why. Thanks.
Glad we could help! Thanks for sharing, have a fantastic day my friend. mad Mike the hammer SPC
Thank You So Much, You are The Best video I seen in CZcams to how to extract a bolt out.
Glad it helped! Thanks for watching. Have a great night. mad Mike the hammer SPC
If you have a small MIG welder, tack a worn out driver bit to the broken bolt and then wind it out with a drill... the bonus is that the heat shocks/loosens the bond due to expansion/contraction. It works every single time. Give it a try if you don't have these ez outs but you have a wire welder...
AN you are correct we do the mig welder every week it seems but with this channel based on the DIYer that doesn't have that tool we share how they can still have success with simple hand tools
I think I have to do this due to space I the gun don’t fit
Thanks for video! Helped me get a sheared bolt out of my Toyota Tacoma truck bed!
Good deal glad we could help merry Christmas my friend mad Mike
Hey Mike :) I haven't commented for a bit. Been busy coming up with a plan to find and have a custom-built RV for the Mrs. & I. (A van-type RV on a Promaster.) So I've been pretty busy in the past few weeks. Nice job on showing us another way to get broken studs / screws out. I hadn't ever thought about the "setup process" you went thru before you backed it out with the extractor. I can see how that would make it a lot easier. Take care my friend. See you on the flip side. And as always, thanks for sharing your talents with all of us.
Hey Ray good to see you again my friend :)
saved this video to my play list and gave a thumbs up! simple, great info and no 6 minute intro to blankly stare at.
i just have one critique - i would use left handed drill bits instead. sometimes the snapped off bit will twist in the direction of the drill bit, and it's better for it to come out rather than further into the hole.
keep up the good work!
Thanks for the view and for your input, it's always appreciated my friend. Have a great week Matt. mad Mike & team
Great tip Mike. I have used these a couple of times and they are fantastic indeed!
Thanks for the tip! I sheared off a starter motor bolt on my Chevelle and had to remove header. I started with a larger, then smaller drill bit like you said. Then the screw extractor and presto it was out.
Glad we could help!! Thank you for watching and sharing your results, we really appreciate it mrmanitoba, have a fantastic day my friend. mad Mike
I had tried the counter screw extractor with no luck. After using your suggested drilling technique I was able to remove the stuck oil due drain plug.
Outstanding tips. A suggestion. Try the Rigid extractors. They're life savers. Also get them through Blue Point.
Try a left hand drill bit, some times it will bring the bolt out
I use left hand drill bits for this sometimes it will come out with the bit.
Flippin awesome!!! Thank you!
Very educational. Thanks
The old professor
That's a helpful tip about using the larger bits to start the hole.
Thank you very much, we appreciate your view and comment. Have a great day. mad Mike the hammer SPC
Another great extract, fabulous
i have never ever in my life successfully removed broken bolt. yesterday and today was closest i ever came
Thanks for sharing your frustration :( Good luck on that! Have a great day. mad Mike the hammer SPC
Depending on the job you may also check with your local tool rental business for an inductive bolt heater. No flame to worry about starting fires or damaging near by plastic/rubber parts. Inductive coils come in multiple sizes and even a free-form section for custom configurations.
Great tip though, Mike!
I just bought one of these and it's been great so far !
Simple and AMAZING. thanks Mike my friend. 👍😎👍

Fantastic TIPs thank you!
Outstanding vid! I bought that stuff figuring it would come with instructions. 🤣
Glad we could help! Thanks for watching and sharing Jason, have a great weekend. mad Mike the hammer SPC
Took it to the mechanic, there was a bolt busted in the Valve cover for one of the spark plug caps and they claimed it would take 2hours. So I had to look this up myself to see.
Thanks for watching, hope this helped my friend. Have a great day. mad Mike the hammer SPC
If the broken bolt is jagged or raised, you can use a large flat punch to flatten out the bolt center which makes it easy to get your center punch in the right spot.
Thank you for sharing we truly appreciate that Mad mikes sweet project cars
And it also gives a mechanical shock to the bolt, which can help break it loose.
Thank you so much for the easy to understand video.
Our pleasure Van! Thank you for watching and commenting, hope you have a sweeeeet week my friend. mad Mike & team
I use a very small socket over the end of the extractor and the ratchet which i found helps to get a better starting grip bc you can put just a little pressure on it ... had to remove a snapped pinch bolt and another anti roll bar bolt that both snapped bc of rust ...worked brilliant 🙏
there are many methods to remove we just show what the average diyer would have on hand
Great tip mike, thanks 👍👍👍
Great tip, this will be very helpful at work, thank you
Glad it was helpful Joshua! Thank you for watching and sharing, we really appreciate it. Hope you have a great weekend. mad Mike the hammer SPC
Brilliant tips on drilling, thank you
kevin you are very welcome
The problem I see is that broken bolt is pristine never broke one of those
Thank you brother motor mount failed and snapped a bolt on 07 civic. Easy as pie 👌

Thank you. This was super helpful for a non-handy guy like me. Got a cheese-head bolt out of a chevy trax.

Yes thanks for showing telling about that , I’ll be taking off my heads off my 460 v8 . Got three bolds broke off each side 6 all together. Thanks see ya bye bye
All the best with that project Kenneth! Thank you for watching, have a great day. mad Mike the hammer SPC
Always found the parallel spline wurth type of extractors work best as they don't expand the broken bolt as the taper extractors do.
Thanks for sharing Gary. Have a great day. mad Mike the hammer SPC
Hey Mike, Thank You, another great video.
FYI, I used to use left-handed drill bits for broken bolts / screws, but the left-handed extractors should do just as well if not better.
Keep up the good work.
Have GREAT day, Neighbor!
Thumbs up for left handed drill bits. Also I would never use a crescent wrench on an extractor, use a tap wrench !! 😊
i've broken three of this bolt extractor on a very very rusted bolts. in this demonstration is no rust seen so everything go by plan and so easy. only solution is welding a nut on a broken bolt.
Well after you broke the first extractor, common sense would tell you that you need to heat it up then it would come right out rust or no rust. Thanks. mad Mike the hammer SPC
I used these all the time when I use to operate a CNC. Easiest way IMO
redskin thats cool ran a few cnc mills and lathes in my tool and die days they are quite amazing machines

I made the mistake of tapping it lol listen to this guy DONT DO IT!!! LOL Thankfully I had 2 so I still have one to do it properly....
Instead of destroying another one I figured I'd look online, how it got the thing off was by pounding a torx socket into the hole lol that worked well... It's tomorrow's problem getting that stud off the torx socket lol
Glad we could help Dutty Diesel!! Thank you for watching and sharing your story, we've all been there done that LOL! Have a great weekend my friend. mad Mike the hammer SPC
Oh did i make a mess ! The last one i tried to do was in a intake, went out the side , made a mess of the aluminum never got the broken bolt out . I absolutely suck at it iwill try your way . Never have good drill bits that doesnt help.
Very good tips. Newer to your channel. Like what you have.
I recently here someone say that a carbide concrete bit drills into hardened steel really well. Might be a good idea for you to try. And make a video.
I have broken many left hand drills, easy-outs, torx bits. It is game over once you break these bits off. You want to turn harder to get the bolt, then the bit breaks. One of the worst things to go through in life.
I'm with you on that my friend. Ugh! Thank you for watching and commenting, hope you have a great week. mad Mike the hammer SPC
Awesome job
Thanks first time ever! I hope it isn't beginners luck! If I ever have to do it again!
I have a broken bolt in my motorcycle. Drilled a hole dead center and got a great tight fit with the extractor. Extractor sheared in half. Tried coming in from the back and have two broken bits to show for it.
Well, 99% of the time you need to put heat on them to get them out, your best bet now is to take it to your local motorcycle shop and have them remove it. If you had it here at our shop, we'd get that bolt out. Thanks for watching my friend, have a great week and all the best on your project. mad Mike & team
@@SweetProjectCars Thanks for the reply.
That was nice thanks i have a broken bolt on my engine block that supports the bracket that hold the motor mount

Mine too...
I once snapped the bolt of of a lower idler pulley on a 4runner 4.0L v6. Forum guy said it was left hand thread, wrong! What a nightmare, broke 2 ez outs, and had to drill them out.
chris that truly sucks for sure my friend

Nice job on a very easy extraction. But if you're from Michigan, as you implied, you won't see many of those squeaky clean, finger-tight "challenges" because they aren't the kind of bolts/studs that tend to snap off.
We did this for example only, but we've used this many, many, many times on rusted bolts. Granted, in the rustbelt of the world grabbing the acetylene torch set is almost a must. Thanks for watching. mad Mike the hammer SPC
Thank You Sir 👍

Nice!
Ohio weather stinks too lately here in Youngstown area but I lived in Sterling Heights for a few years of my life and couldn't stand the Detroit area, no offense , too crowded for me , too much traffic , up north of Detroit was nice but 15 mile was a lot of traffic and car plants everywhere .
Thank you!!!

Drill hole in bolt dead center, put bolt on threaded, then drill thought bolt to get center dril hole . Then remove bolt. Drill hole for extractor. Less chance you will damage threads.
