    Stam Fine Reviews 1998's Star Trek Insurrection starring Patrick Stewart as Captain Jean Luc Picard, and some other people whose names I can't quite recall. I think there's a robot and some guy with pointy ears. Insurrection is the third Trek film to feature the Next Generation Crew, but by now it was The Patrick Stewart show.

    Unbeknownst to me after an evening watching boring crap on tv while consuming a few vodkas the CZcams algorithm placed this on my list.
    Oh joy a Stamfine mini masterpiece featuring Stamfine’s great love doctor Beverley Crusher and Deanna Troi and her noxious expulsions.
    Cheers for a fun ending to a boring English winter evening cobber 😊👍

    A missed opportunity to tie the TNG crew into the Dominion war and use it in the movie (and thus cross promote DS9)

    • @titusmccarthy
      @titusmccarthy Před 2 lety +3

      Paramount didn't like DS9 and would never promote it. VOY was created and aired while DS9 was still on the air.

    • @wink1eafc774
      @wink1eafc774 Před rokem +4

      @@titusmccarthy Irony is, DS9 was brilliant and VOY was just TNG in the Delta Quadrant. It's a shame as they also missed a opportunity with VOY, being a ship alone in deep space, but yet the ship each week looked brand new and terrible inconstancy's with continuity

    • @titusmccarthy
      @titusmccarthy Před rokem +2

      @@wink1eafc774 Yes, VOY was pretty awful sometimes.

    • @belykwater5601
      @belykwater5601 Před rokem +1

      There were apparently plans for a Ds9 movie that was abandoned when Nemesis failed hard. IMO Voyager had weaker dialogue and character arcs but the best char and plot concepts, they just didn't do justice to that because of damn studio inteference. And I think a Voyager movie would have been better, maybe about something following them back to Earth

    • @wink1eafc774
      @wink1eafc774 Před rokem +2

      @@belykwater5601 You're right studio interference both on Voyager and to some extent, Enterprise.
      With Voyager Brannon Braga wanted season 4 to be a season long arc, but the studio refused and we got Year of hell part 1/2 instead.
      We later got the Xindi arc in season 3 of Enterprise.
      Enterprise, they tried to input ideas that wouldn't make any sense, like putting a band in the mess room for example, Rick Berman and Brannon Braga spoke about this in a interview.
      I did hear about a TV movie for DS9 to wrap up loose ends etc but not a cinema release.

    I had to spend quite a few minutes getting to a normal heart rate before I could type a serious comment, so here it goes: One of the ways your reviews are really enjoyable (and unpredictable) is that you don't try to find interesting things to say when the review subject doesn't contain them, you just pad it out with brilliant writing.

    The thing I can't unsee any more, after a friend pointed it out to me, is that there are some scenes at the climax of this movie that seem to have been intended to have effects added in post that were never finished--they have a blue background that is probably just a bluescreen.

    Unbeknownst to the Producers, they didn't make a bad film, they did something worse and made a boring one. At least a bad film you can enjoy pointing out the complete idiocy of the participants ("Who would put together a mysterious android before going into battle when that worked out so well last time?" "Who sets a rendez vous point the wrong side of a communication damping nebula?" "If you need somebody's blood, why are you trying to kill them!" etc.) with a boring one, all you can do is yawn.

    Good review!!
    The movie had mishandled and even antithetical ideas (warp drive got them there so let's now hate it too for no reason, magical puberty radiation that knows when to not turn them back into hatched eggs on the ground, just split up the planet and have the other half devoted to Gilligan's Hospital, genetic revelation worthy of Maury, etc), and - worse- half the movie's big big premise was a butt of a dumb joke in the movie immediately preceding it!
    Good music and direction helped bouncy ball singalong aside. But the TNG phenomenon was worn out by this point.
