Great video as always. Certainly frustrating when aftermarket part installations don't go as planned; hopefully XAT will take care of you on that fifth pulley/sizing issue. Can't wait for the valve body upgrade--I've read those can trim 0-60 and 1/4-mile times. Cool t-shirts, too!
@@ForwardMomentum hey I loved the video I did some research and apparently lighter weight pulleys will add hp but it’s almost unnoticeable but it does help with the rpms as well! I also read that there is a underdrive pulley setup for these cars but it’s basically not worth it because the cons to pros but I was thinking would a better quality Battery/ alternator and ignition system help against the under charging and car voltage? I’m assuming you would know better than anyone else!??
@@shanerobinson1050 At some point HP vs $$$ kicks in. The only place someone might see some HP they could feel is on the crank and then you get into huge debates about harmonic balancing and the engine self destructing. There's a reason no reputable shop has produced a cost-effective solution for the 1UZ in terms of a crank pulley. I'd put my money elsewhere.
@@ForwardMomentum yea unfortunately I know about the harmonic balance stuff and a lighter weight pulley let alone another size the engine isn’t used to could be catastrophic! But supposedly the lighter weight pulleys do add hp and you can still add a bigger WP pulley and alternator pulley and still regain a little go but then comes the charging issue!!

I had the same problem with my tensioner pulley from them really sucks they offered to send me a “spacer” to make it fit and refund me 25 measly dollars.. Also I waited two months didn’t receive my pulley kit so I contacted them through email and they told me it was because the water pump cover/pulley wasn’t ready and they were still working out some details on it. Which is weird because you got yours. I’m pretty disappointed in my experience with them. So it’s been almost three months and I still didn’t receive my water pump cover/pulley. IF YOU PLAN ON ORDERING FROM THEM BEWARE.

You did well not putting a lightweight "damper" pulley. It cost me an engine, it was all aluminum and no dampening at all. Crankshaft harmonic vibrations destroyed my oil pump and all the metal got in the engine, internals got scuffed in no time, including crank journals. The only good costly mod would be a high performance harmonic balancer.

How was your experience with them man? Really curious because mine was pretty horrible. I ordered a set for my 99 sc400 on Valentine’s Day and didn’t receive it until two months later after I sent them an email asking what was up. They ended up only sending me 4 of the 5 pulleys because they said one “wasn’t ready” and they were working to fix it. Also the tensioner pulley doesn’t fit because the way they made it they tensioner sits to far inside the pulley causing the pulley to rub on the engine. So it’s unusable until they send me a “spacer” they said they would send out. Kind of ghetto that I have to use a spacer I’m pretty upset with the company.
How did you secure the camera in the engine that was a crazy shot bro can you look into the xcessive manufacturing 1UZ Throttle Lock its an interesting part for sure
Nice video, saved me a bit of stress. Also my fan bracket pulley thing doesn't have any screws going into it and never did :D . Curious what else i could use to get this bearing to seat into place properly in the idler pulley. I don't currently have a vice (working on it) and the 3uz doesn't have the same size plate on the idler pulley (its bigger and not as flush on the bearing). I had the idler pulley wobble as well glad I stumbled upon this video!
Great video and helpful content, I think you have an issue with the belt tensioner because this slack is not normal and I think the next replacement will be engine mounts..at the end thanks for the video
Hmmm, well that is the slack side of the crank pulley and I filmed the same camera angle with the old belt and OEM pulleys and it did exactly the same thing. I will check the tensioner tension to the FSM and see if it’s out. I’ll report back in a few days. Yep, I saw those mounts moving too. Amazing the crap you see sticking cameras in weird spots!
Sucks I ordered a set of XAT pulleys for my 1uz vvti and I waited 2 months and I only got 4 of the 5 pulleys because they said one wasn’t ready. Another problem I had was when I went to put the tensioner pulley on the tensioner sat too far inside the back of the pulley which was causing the pulley to not sit right resulting in it getting hung up on the engine. So I contacted them and they offered me 25$ back and offered to send me “spacer” so it will fit right. SMH. So ya I didn’t receive my pulley kit until after I waited two months AND sent them an email asking what the problem was. They told me it was because one of the pulleys wasn’t ready which is weird because on their website and Instagram it says they are ready to ship. Also the person I emailed was being a little rude with me. Just putting this out there for all interested in ordering from them. BEWARE I’m pretty disappointed with my order and most likely won’t order from them again.
Such a clean GS and nobody mentions the GS400 anymore. I’ve had mine for 15years and love it. Do you have a link for the pulleys and is it possible to do install this without taking fan off? FYI: XAT sent me an entire 3UZ tensioner assembly with a pulley on it already. The job is actually quite involved, so I’ll be doing it in the next few weeks. The 3UZ tensioner cross references with the 1UZ apparently. More to come...
No. As mentioned in the video, these do not increase HP. Perhaps the engine is a little more “free” and throttle response is improved, but it may be placebo.
ive got an issue with my GS, ive got a rare lean code that pops up and ive checked my fuel trims, theyre +20% on both banks at idle. which I cant find a damn vacuum leak. any advice?
@@ForwardMomentum it was setting p0171 before and i found there was a leak somewhere under the manifold gasket. then i replaced the gasket and all the vacuum hoses. now its not really throwing a code but still is adding 20% on both banks

Hey - Thanks! I used a clamp mount on the sway bar. Just looked at that throttle lock. Very interesting part! I’ll keep an eye on it.

Thanks! I attached it to the front strut bar so it moved a lot with the bar - but I am sure my mounts are going. I’ll check that tensioner for sure.

Chemical Guys All Clean, diluted to about 50/50 since it comes in concentrate. Simple Green would probably be fine too.
