    Old video, but I'm surprised I didn't see in the comments, the WIX transmission filter kit for this car is really solid. I got that for my '04 GS430 and run Castrol TransMax ATF (import multi vehicle type), and I've had zero issues. Doing the valve body adjust today, it's been on 2 (the middle setting) for a while so I'm sure I'm safe to dial it up to 3.

    Also, just to add, for that cross brace that goes over the lip of the transmission pan, I used a 1/4 drive ratchet, short extension, and normal sized socket to access it. Had to use my fingers to get those two screws all the way out though, and also to start them. The other 2 on that lip (the corner ones) I could get to easily, but the two middle ones were a pain until I grabbed my little 1/4" ratchet, extension, and socket

    My '00 GS400 secret shift dial was set on the lowest (full CCW rotation) setting! I just set it to high (full CW rotation) during an AT fluid and filter change. I sure hope me and the transmission like the new setting, lol!

    • @ForwardMomentum
      @ForwardMomentum  Před 3 lety +1

      Crazy! You should be able to feel the difference, especially at around 75% throttle input through the first 3 gears (not sure why but that’s where I really felt the difference).

    • @drrock5356
      @drrock5356 Před 3 lety +2

      @@ForwardMomentum Damn, last night when I carefully put the transmission pan back on, full of gooey FIPG, I "missed" the fill spout connection. It took me about 4 hours today to unbolt the upper fill valve tube, insert it into the lower fill tube, and get the bolt back into the mounting flange and tighten it. I also stripped a threaded stud removing the left cat, in order to get access to the nightmare bolt, lol!

    • @ForwardMomentum
      @ForwardMomentum  Před 3 lety +2

      Dr Rock we’ve all been there. I hate when stuff like that happens. Seems like you have a good attitude though!

    • @drrock5356
      @drrock5356 Před 3 lety +1

      @@ForwardMomentum Lol, I'm trying to keep my attitude toward the GS400 positive. She just came down off of the jack stands after 5 weeks of repairs and maintenance, which included new engine mounts, new (used) rear diff (OG diff blew up!), new carrier bearing, new tranny fluid/filter/shift setting, and new exhaust gaskets. To fix the P0440, I dropped the gas tank and installed a new vent valve, over fill valve, tank-to-charcoal canister tubes, and a new gas fill tube. The test drive revealed that the new (used) rear diff works, and the engine idles smoother and “stays put” when the tranny engages. But there’s a light yet significant drivetrain shudder/vibration during acceleration between 20-30 mph at medium power. And when I parked and got out, I could smell gas from the rear DS wheel well. I suspect that moving the shift setting from “1” to “3” is causing the 20-30 mph vibration, so the pan (and 6 qts of fluid) will be dropped again, so I can access the shift pressure dial, and turn it back to “1”. The gas tank must also be dropped again, which means removing the exhaust, heat shields, driveshaft, and rear diff, which I just reinstalled, so that I can access the tank lines and charcoal canister. I blame 20 year old rubber, field mice, and the massive burnouts the previous owner enjoyed doing to my precious GS400.

    • @ForwardMomentum
      @ForwardMomentum  Před 3 lety

      @@drrock5356 oh man! That dial should have nothing to do with vibration. That sounds like the driveshaft to me. Seriously, I wouldn’t even bother with the dial; I promise you all it does is increase line pressure a little and that’s it.

      I can’t make any promises because the condition of every transmission and how the car is driven is a little different. I can say that it’s an adjustment that’s available and some have found it on III from the factory. Also, it wouldn’t be there if moving it would blow seals. If something happens chances are it was going to happen anyway.

      Facing the engine from in front of the car, the alternator is at the bottom left. You have to lift the car, and get under it to remove the alternator. You may have to remove the power steering pulley to access the top screw to remove the alternator. Once you know how to do it, it's a 10 minute job.
      To get the PS pulley off, keep the serpentine belt on, and use it to keep the pulley from turning as you un-torque the nut.
