  • DIY Wednesday, Back with Another One, See it here First! In this video we will be changing the transmission gearbox oil, on the Can Am Ryker for the first time. The shop manual recommends to change the transmission oil every 2 years or 12,000 miles. #ryker #canam #rykerrally #transmission #oil #oilchange #kingjoffyjoe413 #anotherone #youtuber #youtubechannel #youtubevideos #springfieldma #massachusetts #413 #youtubefirst #diy #diywednesday

    I think it's a good Idea to change this oil way before it recommends it. Oil is relatively cheap compared to gearbox problems. Im doing mine at 2500 miles.

    Hey kingjoffyjoe, I enjoy your videos. On the gearbox…when you change the oil, you start at operating temperature so when you fill the gearbox to the correct spec ( when it runs out the check plug hole ) you are good to go. When you pour the new oil in, it quickly comes up to operating temperature and expands, because your machine is still hot. That’s why there is nothing in the service manual regarding that point.The gears and case do not cool down very fast. No need to do anything else. Just put the plug in and ride. Have a great day my friend.

    Very informative! It would've taken me forever to figure this out.
    Also, when they say two years, they're probably thinking more the casual rider. Not someone who's using the Ryker as their exclusive ride.

    Hey boss just a tip....W on the oil bottle stands for Winter, not Weight regarding lowest rated temperatures for start up, based on the viscosity of the oil type. #technician #StreetDrsLLC

    What oil do u use for ur Ryker engine

  • @sung-holee8740

    Helpful video!
    Shouldn't it take Synthetic gear oil SAE 75-140, instead of engine oil?

    • @kingjoffyjoe413
      @kingjoffyjoe413  Před 2 lety

      The manual calls for engine oil... Gear oil does seem like it would be what would be in there but it's not there is gear oil in the rear end though...

      The engine oil is the standard recommendation. Gear oil is recommended for hot climates.

    did you use a BRP o ring to replace on the bottom plug ? or was it a common size o ring you can get at the hardware store?

    You stop when it comes out the oil level hole. Then screw in both screws!

    • @kingjoffyjoe413
      @kingjoffyjoe413  Před 3 lety

      That's not actually right because you're putting in cold oil when the oil gets hot it expands so there's going to be more so you have to fill it up then you have to run it then you have to check it while it's still at running temperature

      Inside Transmission, there are metal gears that make the belt go around! Can Am service manual has all the info.

      You can literally see the gear from the fill hole.
