@@ThomasJ_Music Maybe not, But you did voice concern that it might be all downhill from here. But You will be pleasantly surprised. This is a great pop piece for them, but they do soo much more. Avi does his own stuff now too. They are all amazing though. Great reaction. I loved that you genuinly didn't have a clue what they were about. I expect that you will soon be a Pentaholic with the rest of us.

No autotune. No effects. There is recordings of them singing this live and it sounds pretty much exactly the same. Avi *IS* that talented and can sing that low and clear.
Not exactly effects, but even in acapella basses are amplified, it's very hard to get a natural and loud deep if you're not a basso profundo which most of acapella basses are not even tho they are well capable of hitting insane low notes, but they are not that much audible if not through a microphone.

@@jayholland2632 not sure about Avi, but even if he is, this is recorded, so if went through a microphone, and a "studio" so yhe, there's always a little boost here, little twank there...not overdone so they can reproduce it live but yhe.

Their version of Bohemian Rhapsody is very impressive.
They take pride in never recording anything that they can't do live. All the effects are their voices. Avi has been known to blow speakers because of how low he can sing. Actually this was shot in a closet and recorded one of their kitchens after they lost their shooting location. The whole video was produced for $400. And this is early Pentatonix. They get better from here.

However, they do not deny that their voices are edited for recordings - as they were here. There is even an article somewhere in which their producer describes the process of cleaning the recordings up and putting effects on them. So while they do these things live, it's not exactly the same.
@@daarianaharis Also, when you are touring with your own audio engineer the live vocal effects and cues are rehearsed along with the group. Every room rings differently so vocalists can't always count on the acoustics of their venue.

They sang Jolene with Dolly Parton which got them a Grammy. Scott (tall, blond though white hair here created the brain child Acapop kids which is kinda the same group with a few others. Check out the Kelly Clarkson medley and aubree is totally a young female Scott and steals the show for that one. Most people listen to their version of hallelujah, also have heard Cohen right before he passed away saw Imagine and thought it was like the best cover of his song!

Pentatonix is known for their live performances. They arrange the songs so they are the same on recordings and on stage. It is their "Trademark". Now effects can mean different things to different people. PTX (Pentatonix) does not use auto tune. But there are effects like reverb and things in their recordings. But the "highs" and "lows" of the notes are not messed with. These singers have huge ranges. Thanks for the reaction. Hope you react to more PTX.
Yes, any post-production that is done is very minimal.
So although they don’t use auto tone, to they use any enhanced tuning? So basically I’m asking if any pitch correction is done at all, or if it’s only effects. I am now very interested.
@@KeeganWar the only pitch correction they use at all is in 90s dance medley and it is very obvious where and why they do it there. They use it to pay homage to Cher in her very famous first use of auto tune.

this was an early highlight (and their first Grammy winner), but pretty much everything they do is amazing.
These are the original members - there has been one change over their 9 (so far) years as a group. Avi Kaplan, who was the original bass singer (and yes, he really can sing like this with no effects added) left PTX in 2017 (no drama, their all still friends), and they got a new bass singer: Matt Sallee. You'll see him in all their videos since Christmas 2017 to the present. Everyone else has been there since the beginning - eventhough a few of them changes looks all the time, so reactors often think they are new people.
They are best known for their covers like like one, bohemian rhapsody, imagine, problem, can't hold us, sound of silence etc. or their "evolution of..." medleys (music, beyonce, michael jackson, rihanna, arina grande).
But they also have great original music (and more coming very soon). I recommend: Sing!, Can't Sleep Love, Run to You, Cracked, Love Again. (Their newest original "Happy Now" will be released on Friday!)
What an impressive introduction to Pentatonix!
Not added effects to the song beside their voices, but all their studio recordings are tuned and balanced to give the desired taste to the song, like someone said in the coments, reverbs and alike. It is fine, because it's a studio version. The important thing is knowing their beginnings live and present day, we can be certain they are capable of performing all their studio songs live with great quality :D
Oh he absolutely is a natural bass who sings exactly that low. This is Avi Kaplan, bass cannon, destroyer of audio equipment.

They reproduce it live perfectly. Avi's voice is what is. He also does overtones and breath effects while humming the bassline in some parts.
The bass is able to sing overtone (2 notes simultaneously) and it sounds so trippy when he does that! it's so electronic sounding! He doesn't need special equipment to make the sounds but obviously a particular mic for recording or more volume to his voice would be needed to be used 2 pull the sound forward because of how deep it is in production. That's why we always wear headphones when we listen to this group so you can hear the bass. Without headphones you don't hear it as well. It sounds really good when I put their CD in my boombox and hit bass boost! LOL things jump on the Shelf my Boombox sits on! It always shocked me when I remember that's a voice and not an instrument or a sound effect created electronically. Thanks for the reaction!

The fact that this was an FU to the music label that had just dropped them for not being a sell able music style after winning the sing off. Nothing says FU to a label that dropped you like winning a grammy.

This is all them no effects just their voices. It’s nice to see more and more British people finding and reacting to Pentatonix, I’m British too, I have been a fan since 2015. They are all amazing and so talented
They got their start on “The Sing Off” and there are incredible performances there. One of the judges even commented that Pentatonix was sent from the future to save a capella 😁 My favorite on that show was their cover of “Video Killed the Radio Star”. Their Christmas song, “That’s Christmas to Me” is beautiful as is their cover of “Mary Did You Know”. They also did a collab with Todrick Hall called “Wizard of Ahhs” which is a lot of fun to listen to.” No added effects with this group, they sound just like this live. Easy to rock out to them and completely forget there are no instruments.
Avi who has now parted ways with Pentatonix (it was an amicable split due to him finding it hard to keep up with their very heavy scheduling) he was the bass, Absolutely No Effects at all, his voice is that deep. Avi is still in so many of their videos So you will hear his amazing voice. There are so many of their videos I want to tell you to React to, but I’m sure there are so many comments already suggesting videos, I will say you must react to Bohemian Rhapsody, Hallelujah, and Sound of Silence. My personal favorites. Pentatonix (or pentaholics as we’re called ) LOVE watching first reaction videos. “If you play them, they will come”
Their arrangements are incredibly complex but they do keep it to where they can be performed live (at least by them). They're several Grammys in and their talent is legendary.

absolutely everything they do is perfection. this is just the tip of the iceberg! my favs are Hallelujah, Sound of Silence, Bohemian Rhapsody, Imagine, Gold, Can you feel the love tonight, Mary did you know, Evolution of Michael Jackson, Evolution of Rihanna, Evolution of Ariana Grande... but, like I said, everything they do is amazing. :)

I think what I love about binge watching these PTX first reactions, is I get this li'l chuckle, deep in my throat and thinking... if you have a seatbelt and covering for your floor, you're good to go, mind blowing!... can ANYone truly pick out their "height" of accomplishment? I can't even pick a fav... Mary Did You Know? is close, but only for my faith... there's just too much talent compacted into everything they do!
There is no weak link with this group. They make the ordinary into the extraordinary. They sound incredible live.

No effects. They’ve been asked that many many times. They just rehearse for many many hours to learn all those effects. If you want to hear more of that, check out their version of “Bohemian Rhapsody”. I heard Scott (tall blonde) say they waited 5 years to do “Bohemian Rhapsody”, because they weren’t sure they could do the guitar rifts and other effects. Well, they can and do. And THEY SOUND EXACTLY THE SAME IN CONCERT. One reason Avi left was the pace they keep is insane. Arranging-Rehearsing-Recording-Touring. Kirstin (Maldonado) says they rehearse at least five times more than a group that has instruments-because of the effects. Avi’s mom was ill, and that pace was very hard for him. There were no hard feelings, and Avi helped choose his replacement, Matt Sallee. Avi is now working on solo stuff, which is also fantastic!
Near the end you asked if this was their best video. "Daft Punk" is not the pinnacle of the band. Just their first Grammy recording. They do a mind-bending version of Queen's "Bohemian Rhapsody" and a heart-wrenching version of John Lennon's "Imagine." One of their most powerful videos is Leonard Cohen's "Hallelujah."

They can technically tweak this in a video, but no, this really is their voices. The beatboxer is a beast, and the bass is an opera trained basso profundo. He was know for shaking arenas and blowing venue speakers. The other three singers have been a trio since high school, and they all got together in 2011 to go on a TV competition show called The Sing Off, which they won. A few notes before you fall down this incredible rabbit hole--
Scott, the tall blonde, is the baritone but also takes the bass line when the bass is singing a solo.
Kevin is the incredible beatboxer.
Avi, the bearded bass singer, left the group for personal reasons (and has some incredible solo work) and was replaced by Matt.
Mitch (the usually dark-haired counter-tenor) and Kirstie (mezzo soprano) change their looks often, so don't be fooled into thinking they've been replaced as well.
Some of my favorites to start you off: Hallelujah (live tv Christmas special to hear their live vocals), Can't Hold Us, Love Again (PTX original), Sound of Silence, Can You Feel the Love Tonight, New Rules x Are That Somebody, Attention, Can't Sleep Love (PTX original), Break My Heart.
Hallelujah has over 500 million views and is their most popular music video (you can also see a live performance of them singing it for their TV special a few years ago); Can't Hold Us, La La Latch, Love Again (an original)..there are lots. Hi from Chicago.
One song they do that I rarely see get recommenced is their cover of the Elvis Presley song “Can’t Help Falling in Love”. It’s really quite beautiful. Also, I would recommend checking out Avi’s solo stuff. He has one of the most beautiful, captivating voices even when he’s not singing bass.

They do use a cello o a few songs. Kevin the beatboxer is a classically trained cellist .
Look up their "dance of the Sugar plum fairies"... Yes, a classical instrumental piece with no words... Sung by an Acapella group with no instruments. They actually made a special award at the Grammys for it.

Oh this is ONLY the beginning, buddy! While it was their first grammy winning song (as others have said 1 of 3), you ain't heard NOTHING yet. Without even looking at other comments I can say with confidence that you likely have about 40 comments saying "No Effects, that's all Avi!" I suggest checking out "Change on the Rise" (solo song by Avi - the bass in this video) and no QUESTION - you will understand that it is indeed, humanly possible to have a voice that low. Check out their live private performance of this song. It really showcases that they can do exactly this live. Also PTX has so many great covers and originals, sure this is one of their bests but pentatonix is so good it’s hard to choose which song is their best. But this cover did help jumpstart their career.
Their very first original song has an impressive dance energy like this song, and the video is futuristic as well. It's called "Love Again".
"Mary did you know" is one of those songs that shake your core the way their voices reverberate, it sounds so full.
They worked on Todrick Hall's project called "The Wizard of Ahhhhs!" I know you'd like that one also.
Scott and Mitch have another channel called Superfruit. It’s the two of them just goofing. But occasionally they sing a song. “Defying gravity” from the production, “Wicked” is one vid that’s mind blowing. They also do a couple of numbers from Frozen”, with Kirsten joining them. And then with 3 other singers, they do a cover of Katy Perry’s, “Rise”, that can leave you in extreme awe.

I just subscribed on the basis of this video, and I'm going to be one among many saying that all the pitches and rhythms were produced by the five voices of Pentatonix. They perform it live in their concerts equally accurately, and there is a famous live video of them doing it in a small meeting room without amplification. It's all there.
This is like watching five people play musical Chess. so professional, you can see the work they have out into each note

Welcome to the Pentaholics! Their original "Run to You " is awesome, as are their covers of "Bohemian Rhapsody " and "Say Something"... everything they do is awesome though, so you can't go wrong!
Search some of their no mics stuff. They are just scary talented!! And when you watch some of their newer stuff, Avi Kaplan is the one one who changed. The guy with the high pitched voice is Mitch and he completely changes his look but it is still the same guy.
Okay, reading some comments here, and a couple of things need clarification:
1) Avi is a trained opera singer. His technical vocal classification is basso profundo.
2) A studio microphone is not an effect. If you put any singer on stage without a microphone, their voice will disappear into the void. Everything you hear is pure vocal. No one is turning up the bass on the amp to enhance Avi's bass. They've simply miked him. The nice thing about studio recordings is you get to hear the best clarity, fullness, and richness in their voices. But they're just microphones, their not sequencing their vocals through synthesizers to enhance the quality.
There are many live performances you can watch that showcase how good Avi's voice is. There are also a few videos that show them performing at parties with no microphones, and you miss a lot of the vocal skills and embellishments, effects, etc. they are employing, because dead air in any room kills straight sound.
Microphones are a necessity to pick up the nuances, but their are no artificial effects or enhancements being used, just microphones to bring up the volume.

I've actually come to prefer the Berlin version of "Aha!" in 2015, as Avi's super low notes are not distorted, and it does show the whole stage, so you see Kevin coming up and taking his spot. The video sucks at the beginning, but does get better. Welcome to the new world of a capella. Pentatonix and Home Free have literally rewritten the book on a capella worldwide. Both groups' arrangements are now being copied by choirs worldwide. Pentatonix has 3 Grammies, one for the Daft Punk Medely, one for the Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairies, and one for being Dolly Parton's "back up band?" on Jolene. Some more to listen to would be Halelulia, Bohemian Rhapsody, Imagine, and Sound of Silence. Home Free I would recommend Man of Constant Sorrow, Ring of Fire and Hopelessly Hoping (which was also performed by a quarantined Italian Youth Choir). BTW - No Effects for either group. Have seen both in concert and they sound the same live or recorded.
Also, Avi does overtone singing with whistle notes!
Scott, Mitch, and Kirstin(The three main singers) have known each other since they were in high school singing together, just the three of them, Avi(Bass) and Kevin (Beat boxer) came along when Pentatonix started. From PTX, if you want to here more from each of them, I would suggest their cover of can't hold us, imagine(really powerful and emotional song, just FYI) and sound of silence, Avi left PTX in 2017 and another great and talented bass guy took his place, and he sings in sound of silence, so definitely check those three songs out

Oh buddy, you need to see them live to realize there are no type of effects, not for the highs or the lows!! When you talked about the fact that the bass wasn't natural, I burst out in laughter; not because I was making fun, but because it always tickles me when people don't believe what they do could be natural on un-enhanced by computers. It gets me everytime! All they need are well balanced microphones!!! IMO, nothing they have ever done disappoints. Their arrangements have only gotten more complex with time. These 5 people came into the music scene in 2011 and changed the course of A Capella forever! Can't wait for more! Oh and for good live performances check out all of their Evolution videos, their cover of Gold, their performance of Hallelujah for their Christmas Special, etc, etc....
No effects. They don’t make any videos/ recordings they can’t do live. They have a huge catalog and EVERYTHING they do is amazing!

You can listen to Live performances to see that they sound the same. Disturb's cover Of sound of silence Not to compare them cause they're completely different. So it's really two interpretations.
You need to hear them do a straightforward song to understand the brilliance of their arrangements, the purity of their voices, and the complexity of their harmonies. What makes Pentatonix the best a cappella group I’ve ever heard is that any of the five can, and does, take the lead and sounds like he or she ought to be the soloist. And there is no ego-the others always support the lead singer enthusiastically.
Daft Punk is an oddity. It’s gimmicky and clever, but not one of my favorites. Their version of Sound of Silence is an unusual, beautiful take on that classic. One of my favorites is John Lennon’s Imagine which will give you insight into their hearts as well as their talent. And Hallelujah is one of the most stunning videos you will see or hear. Period.
Needs to watch their live performance of Halleujah from their Christmas Special from a few years ago, I like that better than the music video.
No auto-tune, no effects. They only balance volume. Occasionally, Kevin (beatboxer) uses a stomp pad for volume. Once you realize this then you will truly be amazed. Listen to the live version of Hallelujah (XMAS edition) as an example then compare that to the produced version of the video which includes visuals in a desert setting. But most of what they do is just live shots of them.
This is the song they won their first grammy for (they have 3 Grammys). Everything in their catalog is at least this good. They are one of the most consistent groups I have ever heard. Additionally their creativity is amazing also. Every video I have watched brings something new a different to the music. Almost forgot they recorded this in their kitchen and spent $400.00 on it.

This is both the vocal skills of the 5 members and knowing how to setup the recording equipment/software to not sound gate them as that is normally what cuts off the highs and lows that are so important.
As for what PTX songs to cover that is simply a YES as everything sounds good even when they are singing about cereal.

Avi Kaplan (the bass) is truly that amazing ❤️ check out his solo song Change on the Rise (all vocals in the song are Avi so there is layering done but no affects all natural)
Avi also uses Tibetan overtone singing in his low notes that may make u think it had added effect but it is all him. My sister and I did a meet and greet and we spoke specifically about this without a microphone he sounded the same.
A fun one to hear 3 goods at once is their cover of the song Aha at the Star Vista in Singapore. It's fan cam but excellent quality. It opens with a slow song to give time for the beatboxer to put away his cello and it shows the bass's (Avi's)natural voice in concert. It then transitions into the main song that gives a feel of their song performance live together in general. The camera primarily stays on Mitch (high voiced male) as he's the lead on it. Gives nice show of Avi's lows, Mitch's highs, and the group's full coordination live.

It's really impressive to listen to their talent, this song is a great song, if you liked the low voice then I'd recommend the song "Ring of Fire" by Home Free or "Love again" by pentatonix. If you liked the higher notes, I'd recommend "Aha!, singapore, The Star Vista" or "Love again" by pentatonix

No effects all you need is Avi and Mitch to get those high and low note. Kevin is their beatboxer and produces most of the sound effects in their videos and is a trained Cellist
This is the "Break out" video for Pentatonix, and I believe it resulted in them getting their very first Grammy Award. SOooooooo, this may indeed be their best video. It is probably a matter of opinion. I like their medleys also, as well as the Halleleulah video.
As somebody probably already commented, no effects on Avis voice - I heard them live twice and they are the real deal and amazing! Check out some of their private performance only recorded on mobile phones - they still sound great!

Hallelujah, Love Again, Imagine, and The Sound of Silence are my suggestions for future reactions.
Crazy but true, I think the only effects ever used in any Pentatonix videos would be audio layering, but even then, I think they usually cover parts for each other in that regard.

Hope that isn't the best of PTX? NOPE! I would suggest: Sound of Silence, Imagine, Can't hold us (This one is hardly reacted to, but amazing and shows off Avi's bass amazingly well), and of course Bohemian Rhapsody. I would also suggest Love Again which is one of their originals and is an EDM style song. It's pretty amazing as well!

Oh, I think I recommended you react to them a long time ago- I’m so glad you got to it! Obviously the music is excellent, but the PTX reaction audience is also really fun to interact with. Bunch of music nerds!

And fyi: Avi Kaplan (the guy in the 'top right... making that noise') blows the speakers at venues that cannot handle his low notes.

Pretty sure a slight effect was added to make their voices sound electronic to fit that techno style, but unlike other techno artists, Pentatonix does not use auto-tune. Someone was physically making every note/sound you heard.
Pentatonix is definitely not a one hit wonder. Their ability to adapt their talents to a variety of musical styles while still having a clear Pentatonix sound is a complete enigma to me.
Avi is making that sound with his voice naturally. They do it live.

no effects, they really just sound like that!! mitch is a countertenor with a 6 octave range & avi has blown speakers with his low notes in live shows!! would love to see you react to more from them!!
NO autotune and NO effects! There is a video of them doing this live, without mics and they sound EXACTLY like they do in this video.
