    What’s even more impressive about Kevin is that he does all this for an hour- hour and a half every concert. He’s also all about fitting in with each song and not “showing off”. Well each of them really but still

  • @Lookinforrealmusic

    Avi does a lot of the bass throat beatboxing. Kevin is a tenor but Avi is a bass and he and Kevin work together on these sounds. There are clips showing how they do this. You can see this very well in the Royals cover they do.

    • @bridgetteparsons1984
      @bridgetteparsons1984 Před 4 lety +18

      In this one, though, it actually was Kevin, at least for the rhythm portion. There's an (mostly) off-mic performance where they show him doing the throat bass section: czcams.com/video/bC9TicW0iiY/video.html
      Kevin is a tenor with way too much talent. 🙂

      @@ericmorris1829 The first songs that I thought of when you mentioned that were "Hallelujah" for Avi and "The Sound of Silence" for Matt. That's regular bass rather than throat bass, though. Scott has a huge vocal range.

      whaaa? Avi does throat bass? I don't think so. You mentioned the Royals cover but there's no throat bass there
      All of the bass-singing Avi does in Royals is chest and it doesn't look like he makes any of the percussive sounds, he's just humming the bassline the entire time and Kevin's doing all the percussion

    I've watched more reactions to PTX than I care to admit, but I find your perspective to be unique to all of the others! Kudos for that, and for making any pauses completely worth it by your informative commentary! I knew Kevin was amazing, but you're giving me a deeper appreciation for his contribution to the group.
    Suggestions for you: Perfect or Radioactive covers - Kevin combines his beat boxing with his cello skills! Imagine or Mary Did you Know - he has significant singing parts in - because he's just as talented at that! And their Bohemian Rhapsody cover is awesome just for what it is, but as many times as I've watched it, the percussion is so seamless that I still find myself forgetting that it's not instruments!

    Dude I don't do any beatboxing, instead I'm a singer and I like watching a lot of singing videos here on CZcams, but let me tell you, your reaction to this song was much better than most of the singers' reactions I've seen. Singers' reactions in my opinion are often times boring, they end up not really adding anything to the video. You, though, not only reacted but also _analyzed!_ Which definitely made it more interesting. And I don't know a ton about beatboxing, so I ended up even learning a couple new things. And you obviously know a lot and you can even demonstrate what's being done in the video… I love it when people demonstrate, I wish it happened more often. Most of the singers I see reacting to Pentatonix never do any demonstrations. So anyway, yeah, thumbs up man, this was a really cool video 👍You just got yourself another subscriber 🙂
    By the way, if you want to react to a Pentatonix thing that has some insane beatboxing, you could check out their "NSYNC Medley." It's pretty old, but still, Kevin's insane in that video, I mean he just does one cool thing after another

    First, I absolutely LOVE watching your Pentatonix songs analysis videos - I don't know much about beatboxing, I just know what I enjoy hearing and obviously that would place Pentatonix right at the top of the list! :) I have watched your Daft Punk, La La Latch, and Love Again analyses videos and I am SO glad I did! Normally I do not care for analysis videos, but your videos have REALLY helped me appreciate the intricacies involved with beatboxing. The first one I watched you analyze was Daft Punk (which is my choice for a "go-to" song to introduce people to PTX, for obvious reasons lol). I am so appreciative of the way you are able to explain various aspects of beatboxing because it allows me to have a greater understanding of just how amazing this type of talent really is. But it is at the 7:10 mark when you explain 'technicality' and then demonstrate it with no other music in the background that totally blew my mind! I am sitting here hearing all these layers of rhythm come out of your mouth that is barely even moving and am just in AWE of your talent as well as Kevin's! I also love watching your reactions to their music, your face is so expressive and I can see just how much you enjoy the music from this amazing group! So thank you for taking the time to break down the music and help others like me understand and appreciate this aspect of the crazy talent in PTX!

    Nice choice of song, dude! Kevin is actually making 75% of the structure of the song here. He maintains the beat and tempo running... When Kevin goes to throat bass singing, Avi uses harmonies on low range (mainly is on the right side of your headset). On bridges, Avi runs the bass line with tonality or chest voice, rarely does he use "focal vry or subharmonic" bass. But overall, this song is amazing.

    I got on to you because of Pentatonix, but I hope by watching your channel, I will eventually learn of other great beatboxers aside from yourself of course. You don't have a huge subscriber base so far, but I hope to see it grow as does your channel and content! :)

    Like to see another popular acapella group beat boxer. You should check out Adam Rupp’s drum solo. He is in a group called Home Free

    The thing with Kevin is he can do so much. Beatbox, play cello and beatbox at the same time, sing, play other instruments and beatbox. Miracle worker😍

      Also their bass, uses growl, throat bass-ish technique I would say but more airy as he aims for lower notes

    I know quite a lot about singing but not much about bass or beatboxing so this is really informative! Kevin is also a fantastic high singer (listen to Mary Did You Know to hear that). Most reactions I find are just people going "wow" or "cool" so it's nice to see someone with a lot of expertise. You could listen to some of their live performances to see what they can do without electronically layering. I'd also recommend their cover of Hallelujah. Lovely video, very enjoyable.

    I would love to hear your reaction to the beatboxing/sounds produced by the beatboxer in HomeFree specifically on "Man of Constant Sorrow". He does harmonica, as well as a sound that sounds like a didgeridoo or I think a jaw harp (just googled to see if that was the instrument). I think you would have a good explanation as to how he makes these sounds.

    • @bg6b7bft
      @bg6b7bft Před 4 lety

      I hear that his jaw harp is painful for him to do for long. I'm curious if this is like a throat bass, where it's damaging if not done carefully.

    I'm so glad you picked up on Kevin's throat percussion and spent some time on it! A lot of people think it's Avi, but it's not. He's singing a more melodic line. If you want to see a band that does absolutely MAD CRAZY throat singing, check out The HU band - a Mongolian metal band. Wolf Totem is a good one of theirs, and if you love Star Wars, Sugaan Essena is *incredible.*

    Hey brother, love your reactions! Are you reacting to bass singers? I am a really low bass singer and would be happy if a beatboxer like you would react to a bass vocalist.
