No doubt! That ADORABLE little crooked smile Kirsten has is ridiculous!
Stanky enough to win them their first of three Grammy awards. The second was for their arrangement of "Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy", and the third was for their performance of "Jolene" with Dolly Parton. I'm liking your reactions. Pentatonix really doesn't do a bad song/cover, you won't be disappointed. For a more upbeat song try their cover of Can't Hold Us. It's FIRE and I'm not even a fan of that genre of music. I love it!

Yep. They won their first of 3 Grammy's for this one. The other 2 were for Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy (must watch) and Jolene with Dolly Parton. Another one with costumes, but an original, is Love Again.

This video was recorded in a closet and filmed in a kitchen, at the Grammys Scott said it cost $400. Hope you have a great evening.

Right. it was done at Avi & Kevin's shared apartment, as the original spot to film it had fallen through. Part of the $400 budget went to the contacts, which turned Avi's eyes red and Kevin couldn't wear them at all, hence the visor glasses (which work better for Daft Punk anyway). Agree on Radioactive, Lindset Stirling is a fabulous artist on her own and then add KO with his cello and it goes from great to amazing. If you like faster paced works check out their cover of Ariana Grande's "Problem" (Mtch Grassi rapping? Whoda thunk it?) and Macklemore and Ryn Lewis "Can't Hold Us". Also check out their cover of "Rather Be" filmed in Japan while on tour - Kirsti absolutely slays it. Thanks!

I love Kirsten's little smirk too. Although I read somewhere that the smirk is as a result of some mouth 'defect' that she's had to have numerous surgeries to correct. Like a Hare lip, or something similar. It apparently affected her singing to the point where her vocal coaches at school said she'd "never amount to anything" because she didn't have "correct technique". This criticism apparently knocked her confidence and she has worked extra hard to correct whatever perceived issues she had. If you look at their newer stuff you don't see the cute smirk anymore. It's a pity cause I liked it! However, I'm glad to see that she has proven her critics wrong and is part of such a successful group now!

I like the smirk too. It's as if she is telling the guy she is singing to that he's "in trouble tonight." Also if you are listening to Avi's solo of "Television," you hear Kirstie singing "Around the World" as a counter tune. Once you hear it, you'll never unhear it again.
If this is true it breaks my heart for her. She has definitely gotten better as she has gotten older but I don't think the smirk was what was holding her back. It was more likely confidence issues and lack of training. No person should ever feel that they aren't good enough as they are and definitely not someone as talented as all of these humans are.
I mean for God's sake she was 20 or 21 when they did this and the only training she had had was in high school and a little coaching on the sing off.
If this tempo “and feel” from Pentatonix appeals to you then you definitely need to check out their “90s Dance Medley”
Great reaction. But if want another one with great production value, check out their joint effort with Todrick Hall, "The Wizard of Ahhhs". The production on that one will blow you away. And it tells the story in a way you'd never expect,

This was filled in Avi’s closet with a budget of $400 for the makeup and lights, costumes. They used an iPad for the recording,according to Scott at the Grammy Awards. They were very new to performing like this. The group came together in November(I think) of 2011. They had had a production group scheduled to film this but those idiots backed out at the ,last moment. So into the closet they went. I have to believe that the production group rued that decision to back out. They would have earned a Grammy, I believe. Their loss!
Another - *really* - up-tempo song of theirs is Macklemore and Lewis’s “Can’t Hold Us.”

I used to be a big fan of Pentatonix, but shortly after Avi left, it seemed there was a competition between Mitch and Kirstin as to who could look the "strangest" is the nicest word I can think of. They are very talented, but to me, it seems success went to their heads or somewhere.

This was the video that made them world-wide superstars, their first international super hit. There were a LOT of people (including me) who thought Kirstie's side-smile was adorable. But it actually caused a lot of problems for her. There are several stories floating around about why she did this, but the one that seems to get told the most often (and seems the most plausible) is that she was born with a cleft upper lift. She had surgery to correct it as an infant, but the surgery caused nerve damage to the left side of her face and caused her to have some facial paralysis. If you ever see a real closeup of her, you can see a scar extending from beneath her nose to the top of her lip. She received a lot of flack from vocal coaches when she was a teenager who told her that her inability to open her mouth properly would affect her singing, and as a result, she was quite timid and shy in the early days of Pentatonix, always staying in the background and only rarely taking lead vocal parts in songs, despite having a gorgeous angelic voice. She went thru a lot of physical therapy and extensive plastic surgery to correct the problem, which explains why she looks so different now than she did in the early days. After releasing her first successful solo album and her acclaimed stint on Broadway, she gained a TON of self-confidence, and now she takes leads in songs often. She no longer concerns herself with the side-smile and side-singing, and occasionally lets the side-smile show sometimes, although it's not nearly as pronounced as it used to be.

I liked her little off balance lip and natural look too, but she has chosen to get that corrected/hide it with plastic surgery. She's beautiful in every appearance though.
actually, it wasn't entirely her choice. She got attacked by cops at at a BLM protest and her lip was split open. She got reconstructive plastic surgery to fix that and it happened to fix the side smirk as well
