      You seem to think that there was ever any focus on gay or straight during these times. There wasn't. Any hole that could get you off, especially if you were a God, was usually serviceable regardless of gender. So no, you're wrong in many ways. Apollo, like many others, had an attraction to anything beautiful, or beyond spectacular. I'd wager to say that if such an individual (Hyacinthus) in this story had that effect on Apollo, the God of the Sun, he'd easily have that effect on any human. That doesn't make us gay does it? Seems to be a pronounced mystical stigma read here. Something that not even a God can resist.

      the myths you are talking of (marsyas) is not meant to be taken literally . the myth is symbolic in nature . marsyas myth tell us to not do hubris or else you'll be punished by the gods . Also , this myth is of athentian origin who loved lyre (apollo's musical instrument) and disgusted flute (marsyas instr.) because it was liked by their rivals . the flaying is a metaphor for their dislike and destroying lute . The myth of midas is not true either because , Aristotle wrote that phygrian king midas was quite lustful when it came to money and he died in vain wanting more riches. It is ovid who firstly is roman poet and is infamous for twisting the plot of myths to make them appear more appealing . pan is replaced with marsyas in roman mythology overall these myths are symbolic and one instead of taking them at face value focuses on the lesson it teaches i.e. don't be extra prideful .

      Not Pan, Pan is a god. You're talking about Marsyas whom is a totally different figure. After doing that Apollo feels so guilty for losing control he gives up music for a few years and breaks his lyre.

    Who is the sun god? Helios or Apollo? Is Helios
    simply the embodiment of the sun?

    • @warrenrobinson527
      @warrenrobinson527 Před 2 lety +1

      To my understanding Helios is the titan of the sun, so in many ways Apollo is a successor to that power (it is all very complicated and there’s so much confusion that even the ancient Greeks didn’t feel like clarifying things)

    • @treatpeoplewithkindness2955
      @treatpeoplewithkindness2955 Před 2 lety +1

      Hellos is a Titan and he is more the personification of the Sun. Apollo originally was the God of the light but later on he was consider the God of the sun. The same happen with Selene (the personification of the moon) and Artemis as his brother later on was consider the goddess of the moon.

    • @TheKingOfSpooks
      @TheKingOfSpooks Před 4 lety +6

      He's not the "actual sun god" because he is not a god, he is a titan. And the two dieties were merged years ago by the ancients. Like a video about Helios would be cool but because of the merger there's not as much info about his as Apollo.

      The titans are gods; there's virtually no difference between them other than the fact that the 12 eldest ones are of a previous generation. Leto is a first cousin of the children of Kronos, so she isn't any more or less a titan than they are.

    Why did the ancient Greeks inscribe "Know thyself" above the entrance of the temple of Apollo? Out of all the gods, why did the ancient Greeks choose Apollo for this most important axiom of all? Because Apollo was the god of INTROSPECTION. Meaning that to truly know yourself, you must go into yourself.
    Alchemical axiom: V.I.T.R.I.O.L.
    _Visita Interiora Terrae Rectificando Invenies Occultum Lapidem_ ("Visit the interior of the Earth and by rectifying, you will find the hidden stone")
    You are the interior of the earth and you are the hidden stone. Who are you? Know thyself.
