    Understand the story:
It is the northernmost railway line in Norway. It was built between 1898 and 1903 to provide year-round shipping of iron ore from Kiruna in Swedish Lapland to the port of Narvik in Norway, a port never blocked by ice. Kiruna is located 200 km north of the polar circle. It is the largest municipality in Europe with more than 20,000 km², and is home to the largest underground iron mine in the world. Thirty million tons of iron ore are extracted from the earth every year, thirteen trains daily transport iron ore to the port of Narvik. Each train is made up of 52 wagons and each wagon has a load of approximately 80 tonnes. The wagons never stop even to load or unload and have priority on the line. It would take 300 trucks to transport the entire load of one train.
The corridors of the mine go up to 1775 meters deep under the city. The extraction of new minerals threatens the stability of the soil. The mining town of Kiruna will move, building by building for a new horizon... , just over 3 kilometers to the east. The current city center will be destroyed, as well as several residential areas
In January 2023, the Swedish mining group announced that it had identified in the Kiruna region, "the largest known deposit" of rare earths in Europe. The site would contain more than a million tons of metals or “one million tons of rare earth oxides”.
