Erin and I will be cosplaying characters in the near future that require poofy dresses!! We had the option of buying our hoop skirt or making them but of course, as usual, I like to make my life difficult and I decided to make mine o3o;; Although, have no fear because this project was tedious yet fairly simple to accomplish! It originally was supposed to come out as a bell shape but ended up more A shaped...but this can easily be adjusted by removing the tape and shifting the pipes around~
I hope you enjoyed this video wether you're just curious or you need to make one yourself! Don't be afraid to drop any questions you have down in the comments section, I'll try be best to answer them!! C:
Thanks for watching and as usual, we'll see you next time!

that cat is literally my cats. dark fabric? my white cat NEEDS to lay on it. light fabrics? my black cat lays on it!!!
Just an fyi you can buy connectors for the pvc piping at hardware stores. The ends just pop in. No need for tape if you want it perm. Once you are done you can use pvc adhesive inside the connectors then pop the ends in and it will stay put no removing it
For everyone asking "can you sit in this?" to be completely honest...not really XD You can sort of sit on a couch but it's easiest to just plunk yourself on the floor ^^;;
I hope we can sit on a stool
It’s an art form to sit in these. The proper form is to rest the bottom most hoop where you intend to sit and then lower yourself onto the edge of the seat. Avoid armrests.
Erika Evangelica AlPerriwicklövinski wow, that’s sooo helpful thank you sooo much
yes u can sit in it!!! u could always CZcams it how to sit with a hooped skirt. it will be like the 17th or 18th century style
Women sat down every day from the 1500's-1800's with similar supportive undergarments. You just need to know how to do it, lol. There are youtube tutorials on how to sit in hoopskirts, panniers, bustles, etc.
Man I wish I had an excuse to wear more 19th century outfits
Serena Mc I have one, because you want to. No one should stop you from doing what you want. You can also be the most proper person that there is in that outfit to surprise everyone
Go to midevil festivals
Serena Mc or become a cosplayer
@@disneygeek1228 yes.
"I want to wear a 19th century outfit." - this might not be an excuse but it is a reason.
I hope this video was useful to some of you! If you have any questions at all, please don't be afraid to ask as I'll try my best to answer them!
Thanks for watching~
Fiona'n'Erin I know it might not be your expertise, but could you show us how to make and attach an arm or plate.
I really want to do a cosplay that involves armour and I thought you might have some tips and tricks for people like
Me with less experience
XGNCovertFeind Crimson Ahhhh its definitely on our "cosplay bucket list" to try out armour!! It's just very daunting and we've never really had a strong urge to cosplay something armour related...hooefully soon! ; u ; And we'll for sure film it when we do~
Fiona'n'Erin can i use a fabric to my doll's
Fiona'n'Erin hello dear, what exactly type of PVC pipe did you use? please tell me, i dont know which one I will have to buy. im confused
What is the name of that pipe
I literally knew nothing about these kind of dresses and you taught me all the vital parts. KUDOS you're amazing
Then you have people like me who duct tape a bunch of hula hoops together and call it a day 😂
Honestly, at times I felt like doing the same XD
Fiona'n'Erin Yep XD
I just did😂
Coffee Loffee Jenna is that you?
If it works
Thanks so much for sharing and especially hints and tips that just make it that bit easier to make and wear. It's hard enough concentrating on the making part. I'd end up forgetting to press record!! Thanks again so much for sharing. Best wishes.xx
this was soooo helpful! I'm making my little sister a princess dress for Disney and this was so helpful in making the hoop skirt
I needed this for Maria Reynolds dress because her dress is long and poofy. Thank you
THATS WHEN MISS MARIA REYNOLDS WALKED INTO MY LIFE
I'm repainting a doll to look like violet evergarden, this is gonna be great to make the dress. I just have to shrink everything down lol
I think this is THE BEST sewing tutorial XD between the cat on the fabric, the iron in the box and the "oh i just eyeball it and hope for the best", you have me cracking up! lol this is what sewing is like in REAL LIFE. lmfao
Thank you so much I wanted a ball gown , you told how to make hoop skirt . I will definitely try this.
Imma use this to make Cinderella's ball gown for a thespians competion
"With these you can cut and no one will hear you at 1am in the morning." But they will hear the frustrations of miscutting. XD This did help a lot, thank you!
Nice tutorial! Your cat really wants too be the star of the show, very cute! :)
Thank you for this tutorial! I’m trying to make a poofy dress for the first time, and this is a real time saver!
Thanks so much for this video! I’m making a Shalltear Bloodfallen cosplay, and I didn’t know how to go about getting a hoop skirt for such an obscurely shaped dress. So I figured I’d make one. Your video was super helpful! Thank you!
pretty cool tutorial! ^o^ very useful for characters with poofy dress :3
Domenica Chan Thank you! ♡
Domenica Chan and peggy
When you finally decide on hoop size if you make a small slit on one end of the pipe and squash it you can push it into the other end of the pipe then tape over this will make it more round and seamless and also won't cause the heavy taped double pipe to pull down with it being heavier. If that makes sense! Great job though!
Hello that was a good idea but you know you could get the pvc connectors to close those ends right? so they want be overlapping and looking like that (all taped up)
Fashionable Chambers I'm not an expert but I am yet to make one but I think it would work end to end, maybe use duct tape it is very minimalistic with how strong it it. Maybe. Please take this with a grain of salt.
idk if i wanna go all out and do this or just ..... use hula hoops....
Literally what I thought 😹
I heard that it is hard to find ones that are large enough. If only I could find something sturdy enough, I could make an impressive one for my mom.
I.. dont... have any....
My mom suggested this lol
Gonna be making a Shalltear bloodfallen cosplay so I'm really glad to see vids like these lol
Hulu hoops, or pool noddles with duct tape! xD
Thanks for the tutorial! I think vinyl tubing would be easier to form the hoops instead of PVC pipe. I think I'll use that when I try to make this.
And when are you posting your videos of vinyl petticoat
I had alot of questions n doubt's b4 I saw this video. But now I got d necessary I need to do my own design🙌💯💯💯 thanks F n E👸💞
You literally made it so easy thanks!!

So I made this a few years ago, and then this year I made a hoop skirt with the real materials. The pipes on this one are very bulky and stiff. You can't add too many hoops since they won't collapse nicely when you sit down. Also they don't bend at all like actual hoop steel. What I would suggest is that since actual hoop steel is quite expensive, just buy enough materials for 5-6 hoops and sew those together with twill tape as the vertical strips. And make sure to measure the distances properly if you're going to buy the real stuff. I just find it worlds more flowy, and it has an organic spring to it when you press on it.
I wonder if boning would also do the same thing and if it would hold its shape? 🤔 Hmm
This will be sooo helpful for us in the future!
What a neat way to attach the hoops to the vertical ribbons. Sure beats hand sewing them, as seen on other videos.
I once tried wire but it dident work out work me, im guessing in was to flexible and thin and couldn't stay in a circler form
So, I'm making a 1700s ball gown (it's Eliza Schuyler-Hamilton from the musical Hamilton) and I have to make a hoop skirt. Do you have any tips on sewing with silk?
Person person ah such an interesting dress to make I wish I can help but I never had to come across sewing silk but I really hope it comes out well
Person person Don't use cheap silk for the love of all that is holy. If you have a Joann's, their Casa Collection line is good, but it does fray a crapton. Take your time and make sure everything is neat and tidy
Person person ELIZAAA
OMG! I made Angelicas, Eliza's, and Peggy's dress! They all turned out great! I'm making Maria's currently-
hey! this might be super late, but to get the proper 1700s look you're actually gonna need to do pocket hoops, but it's a very similar process. As for seeing with silk, make sure you use a very small needle, and silk thread. Linen or polyester seems to tug and snag at fine silks too much
ILYSM!! you guys are the best and have helped me so much with my cosplays!
Thank you so much!! ; o ; It means a lot to hear that
I love kitty tales! Awesome toot! Really great for m future Cinderella dress for my 9 yr old :)
You have saved my costume stress!! Thank you!
This so good. I’m glad I came across this. Where did you get the piping tho
as i cant sit with this hoop skirt so plz tell me any other type of sittable hoop skirt as brides in my country are supposed to sit for hours in wedding ceremonies
This is so nice omg ❤️
Your cat is such an adorable little loaf 😍
I was thinking of cosplaying Mother War from MCR's Welcome To The Black Parade video and honestly this video helped so much since actual hoop skirts are expensive af.
Omg! This is so helpful! THANK YOU
Who else is here so they can make a Victorian dress, so I can be a Victorian ghost for a Halloween party
Yayyyyy! You made a new video!
Hello, can I use a plastic garden hose to act as the pvc pipe?
what thickness of pipe did you use
This was awesome. Now I just gotta add fabric over it^.^ thanks so much!!
This is so helpful! Especially since I'm making a ballgown for Katsucon in 2018.
I'm doing a similar project for school and I was wonder how much of the pipes you need? like the length?
WHOO HOOO THNX SO MUCH FOR SHARING THIS!!!!
A tip for making the PVC pipe easier to make into circles... you can heat it with a hair dryer or a heat gun to soften it a bit to make bending it a breeze. Just make sure to test how much heat you need on a scrap piece so you don't melt your final hoops!
If you have an open front to the dress, any adjustments yould recommend to the bell to make for the pipes? Making a bride Tharja crossplay and I want it to keep that open-and bell shaped look
Hii!! I really liked the video. Using pvc pipes ws quite innovative an option for me.. as all I've known about how hoop skirts are made, is with hoola hoops.. but with pvc pipes you can adjust the size later... thanks 😍
What do you think would be a good idea to use instead of the piping for smaller circles?
I'm cosplaying as sapphire from Steven universe and I'm binge watch tutorials literally all night 😂
Thank you so much, this is super helpful for my Agitha cosplay from Twilight Princess! 🙏🏻
I live it! But I have just one questions. Can I sit with it?
you could probably pick up all the hoops up to your waist?
Thnx so much for the video I'm gonna make one but I'll hack to so I can make it multi use as a hoop skirt for shorter skirts of mine and also big dresses I'm gonna test out using velcro in replacement to the fabric that way I can remove levels of popping to cater to each of my outfits
upscaling my prom dress😃
this looks so easy i might use this video
thank youuu!
its really helpful for me
Lit i just entered fashion design class and this will help me a lot thank u.
amazing but can we sit while wearing that? plz do reply
what kind of pvc piping did you use?
I really wish I had found this tut before I started my hoop skirt. I've got it all done but I'm having issues with the waist band because I used elastic and I think I need to change it out for something stronger because of the weight of the hoops. *sweat drop*
do you think hula hoops would work for like a shorter one?
Gazer The Star Hunter my question exactly
Gazer The Star Hunter probably
This was super easy to follow thank you
I have been making hoop skirts with pvc tubing for years . for the upper rings use a 3/8 tubing the 1 inch should only be at the bottom. to connect the tubing use a smaller size that you can just fit inside your ring and push the two sides of the ring together leave as is or use a piece of duct tape on the seam. To shape your tubing just cut the length of tubing you want and put it in hot water for 10 min connect the ends and let it cool. Hope this helps with your next project
What I would do to make sure it’s not lopsided- put all the hoops in a pile and mark a straight line through it on each place the ribbon would be. That’s the place you glue the loop
Bravo, I'm gonna do this!!!
CHUBBY KITTY!!!!!💙💙
How much did this cost all together? im trying to do my cosplay on a relatively low budget
im planning on addding a set of clasps in the middle so i can make it knee length for other cosplays
E McCreanor I’ll tell you when I do it ❤️
Which kind of hoops you use and were you get them?
What kind of pipe R u using there, where will I get it...
THANK YOUUU SM. i am trying to do a morticia Addams dress but a wedding dress with her roses 😩✌🏾
Gorgeous 🤍🤍🤍❤❤❤
this video was very helpful to me thankyou so much for sharing this video
Where can you get the tubes?
If PVC pipes aren't available since I live in the phillipines can you use a hose cause I'm gunna make a dress for my 3 year old cousin
Could you please tell me how you had adjusted the size of the loops. Then strip with the loops are just hanging from the waist. So after that how did you manage to gradually increase the diameter of the loops?
I have always problem about petti coat,,can you please tell me what kind of material about the ring,,where can i buy it?
This is probably a dumb question but could this technique be used to make a crinoline skirt/cage skirt?
Hi, I loved it for its practicality and movement. Can you tell me how far from your waist you placed the first hoop and approximately what diameter you did it? You see, I need to get that figure "A" that you achieved.
Thank you very much and greetings from Mexico City
I enjoyed a lot, I have learn many new things. Will you please mention the length or diameter of the hoops & the length of the gap between the hoops.
I loved it! Just a question! Can u sit properly tho? or is not comfortable?
Wooooow it's look brilliant
I’m getting a Fem Ciel Phantomhive dress and it’s to be poofy! I can’t wait but I needed to learn hoop skirts, mine won’t have one unless I make it 😂😅
I love it...😍😍
Hey from what kimd of shop can we get these hoops from? Great video btw
The neatness of your sewing seams is sooooo satisfying.
So just wondering about the pipes you use to shape the skirt would these work for an 11 year old, I'm around 30 inches at the waist and Down from there and if not what would you recommend? Im a new dress maker as you can probably tell by my age so I'm new to all this stuff 😅😅
yess! I need this!
love this, thank you very much :)
Hii, I'm new to this channel.
Which Sewing Machine are you using?
Hi! Sorry for bothering, but I was wondering where you got the PVC piping that small! Was it a hardware store? My dad is an electrician, so he uses bigger sizes of that pipe all the time.
Un grand merci très intéressante vidéo merci very best
I’m gunna try to do this for my schyler sister dresses (im marking 3 for my friend group so we can be them for Halloween)
Could I use this to make a open front half skirt
