- This removable ball skirt is just so versatile! Especially for a wedding dress! Gone are the days when you can only wear your wedding dress once! With a convertible dress you can re-wear your pieces AND you even end up with multiple looks in one dress/skirt! I absolutely love the fact that it is also good for the environment!! ^_^

My Story:
I'm an LA-based fashion designer. I've worked for Project Runway star/designer Michael Costello, as a Senior Designer/Project Manager for almost 6 years. I also partnered with him and Revolve on launching and creating the MichaelCostelloxREVOLVE collection for 2018 and 2019 and was responsible for producing mood/inspo boards, collaborating in all design aspects, create patterns and first samples, attending fittings, attend photo shoots, etc. Prior to our partnership with Revolve, I worked solely on Michael Costello Couture as Project Manager and played the lead role in planning, executing, monitoring, controlling, and closing projects whilst ensuring each project is done on time and within budget. Trust me though, it's more fun than it sounds! lol And i'm here because Corona made me do it. And i've always really loved video editing. I thought this would be a great opportunity to mix the things i love.. designing, filming the process, and video editing. I now work freelance but mostly make wedding dresses for my own clients. So why not film as i go, right? and share what i know! Makes the whole process extra challenging yet exciting! tehee.. ^_^

I used this pattern for my wedding reception dress and it was SO much fun to wear, so many layers of playful tulle! Thank you 💕
Awww… Omg how exciting!!! 😍😍 you just made my day! Thank youuu! 🤗
Did you layer more than one layer of tulle? I am thinking of the same thing but want my skirt to be more opaque xo
@@a-mpatton8780 I did! I layered one layer of ivory tulle over two layers of a soft blue.

Where do I find the pattern????
Last year I watched this video to make my swanlake dress as I didn't understand how to drape a skirt. This helped me so much. It has really helped me understand the construction of dresses. Thank you so much ❤
This is so fun to watch and your teaching process is very approachable 🥰 I learned a lot and was also entertained, also your “manager,” is SO cute! I can’t wait to incorporate this concept into a design. Thank you for sharing and inspiring!
Hahaha thank youuu! My manager says “Thaaaanks!” Lolol and the pleasure is mine! Thank you for your kind words and for appreciating my work! It means the world!! 🥰🥰🥰

Black tulle for me too! But i will only have the right half in a skirt so i will make it work a little differently. Cousins Queer Wedding will have us all serve looks.
Thank you for sharing! 🥰. I'm a newbie and want to try make a detachable skirt for the first time. I hope it works well.

Awww thank you Annie! Yes.. soon! ☺️☺️ Just really been crazy busy lately. But yes, i will very soon! ☺️
I enjoy watching your tutorial dae I hope kabalu pud ko manahi.. pero imo jud nang talent ...
I've never sown anything before and I need a skirt for my sister's prom dress, how did you connect the panels once you draped them?
Detachable skirt was awesome.
Beautiful 🤩
I LOVEEE IT
this was so helpful, thank you! it looked like 1 seam of each panel was on the selvage/straight grain, did you sew straight grain edges to bias edges, or straight to straight? does that affect the way it drapes?
Hello!! Yes! Great observation.. i drape it right on the bias so sew lines will be along the selvage (warp) on one and the weft on the other. As for the sewing, i try to sew the wefts together and then the warp. There will be one seam where you will have to sew a weft and warp together but the rest should be the aforementioned. Drape should be okay as long as you sew it carefully ☺️
@@karla_roble is there a reason to go weft to weft and warp to warp? Or just preference? I'm trying to learn those kind of tips
Can you show us how to drape the bodice where the plays/drapes are verticals?
Love watching your video this is what I need to make for my sister's wedding. Thanks
Can I use different lace?
What size or inches of horsehair did you use?
Hi Edjoy! Yes, you may use lace fabric to make this skirt. As for the horsehair, i’m using 2” on this one ☺️ omg how’s your sister’s wedding dress going so far? I’m making one myself too, for a client hehe 🤓
@@karla_roble I'm still on the skirt lol I hope I can make it so perfect like yours🤞
Beautiful ❤❤❤
Thank you loved it :-)
Muito lindo seu trabalho, Deus te abençoe.
I love this video, is it also possible to make this with a non see-through fabric? If yes what fabrics are recommendable? (I'm fully new in sewing)
Thank youuu! It is definitely very possible to make in a non see through fabric! Depends what kind of look you’re going for, if you want something dressy maybe Tafetta, or Satin? Something not too thick or heavy so it’s not so bulky at the waist when you ruche/gather it ☺️
Oh wow. My beginner self isn’t quite at the level of understanding this but beautiful job.
😂 😂 You'll understand it all by and by...
Beautiful
The only video that actually makes sense
Do you sew the different panels
omg love this skirt, how many yards did you use for this?
Sorry just seeing this now.. I used no less than 8-10yds…
Loved it you so amazing
Ah!! Thank you so much!!!
How much fabric do we have to need for it
😍
Which are the measurements of the panel? Do you just cut a square piece of fabric? Thanks and sorry for the silly question😅
@633 did you cut the first center piece into two pieces? Plz im so confused sister.
I wanna use the pattern for a Sleeping beauty cosplay how can I make the skirt look like it has a dream like flow to it?
Hello! Does anyone have any suggestions on how to finish the skirts hem if you want to keep a softer drape than the horsehair provides?
Hi! You can do a double roll of about 1/8” ☺️ you can also leave it raw, just make sure you cut it evenly and seamlessly since english mesh doesn’t fray ☺️
Hi What was stitched to border?
How much fabric did you use? How many meters?
Hi could you make a robe dress with this same model bottom part with puffy sleeves 🙏🏻 pretty please
❤😊
🥰🥰🥰
How wide does the fabric has to be? and how many meters of fabric would you recommend? thanks :)
58” up… the wider the better of course ☺️
Hi Karla can m not asking for how many layer but how many pieces of drapes for this skirt is that 4 or 6 or 8 ?
Should be about 5.. 3 in the front and 2 in the back ☺️
Very talented
Thank you so much! 🥰🥰🥰
Hi um quick question: can one use any kind of fabric or does it have to be a light flowy one for that kind of skirt?
Hi! Yes any kind of fabric works (just nothing too heavy).. and you might need to modify the gather on the skirt a bit and reduce it, that way it doesn’t get too bulky around the waist! ☺️
@@karla_roble thank you so much :))
I really wanna try the draping technique but I'm too afraid to cut it that way..what if I waste the fabric 😐 However, I just love this video and watched it like 100 times today 😅❤❤
Only way to know is to try. Give it a whirl. Good luck you’ll do great
Omg you’re so sweet Shreya! So sorry for the late response, haven’t been on here in a while. But yes, if you’re afraid to cut you can always start by marking the cut line with a chalk and then lay it flat so you can true it! And then cut away! ☺️☺️
Sana all magaling manahi! I only have very basic knowledge on sewing. Happy Thanks giving sis sayo and your family! #Socal
Ah! Thank youuuu! you are so sweet! im about to stalk you right now too! haha and Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family! ^_^
Hey sis! Stay in touch!
if you where doing multiple layers of tulle would you sew horsehair on each layer?
Hi Jessica!! Yes i do! Depending on the design im going for. Sometimes i do multiple layers without horsehair and then only add horsehair to the one outer layer ☺️
Perfect thanks
@@misssmiilesz You are most welcome! ☺️ I hope it works out! 😍
❤Love it! how many yards of the net did you use?
Thank youuuu!! 8-10 yds should be good ☺️ maybe 8 if you don’t need a longer train in the back..
@@karla_roble Thank you Karla! 😘
This is spectacular, but also easy enough for a newbie to replicate! What kind of tulle is this and where do it find it? I would love to try this!
Hello!! Here i’m using English Mesh. Just under 10yds of it. Umm i buy mine in downtown LA. Otherwise maybe you can try amazon? Sometimes they have it ☺️
Hi, how many yards of mesh fabric did you use to make the skirt ?
Hello! ☺️ im glad this video helped you.. i used about 8-10 yards for this skirt..
Hi, can you tell me please how is called that band you put on the end on the skirt to keep it stiff? TIA.
I wanna know too
@@hotarumine Hello if y’all still need to know its a crinoline trim or horse hair braid. It comes in many sizes
Hi!! Yes! It is indeed called Horse hair! ☺️☺️

Did you sew both edges of the horsehair?
Hi!! Yes i did! 😊
Hello mam . Can you please help me with telling that what you used in bottom of the skirt?
Hi! It’s called horsehair ☺️
how many yards of fabric? also can i use tulle instead of mesh?
Hi Abbie! For this skirt i used about. 8-10 yds.. it really depends on full you’d like it to be. As for the type of materials, tulle should work as well ☺️☺️
Would chiffon work?

What's horse hair?
I can’t tell if it’s tulle or organza. 😄 please help.
Hi doll! It is neither 🙈 altho it can surely be made with both of the ones you mentioned, this one is actually English mesh... ☺️☺️
