Last year I watched this video to make my swanlake dress as I didn't understand how to drape a skirt. This helped me so much. It has really helped me understand the construction of dresses. Thank you so much ❤
She just looks lovely! The dress really enhances her youthful beauty. 🦋🩵🦋 😊
The dress is beautiful and so is the graduate, congratulations, you look beautiful.
❤extremely ambitious, BUT, 🎯you DID IT❤
Haha yes, ambitious indeed.. didnmt think i’d finish in time tbh haha.. thank youuuuu! 🥰
Wow, that’s amazing. It’s so beautiful. You’re very talented.
The dress is SO beautiful and i learnt so much just from this one video, thank you!! Quick question, do you have a particular method to tie the ends and finish off with the invisible thread? I'm always worried my knots will eventually come undone.
Hi Katy! Thank you!!! And i’m glad you learn d something 🥰 that’s the ultimate goal hehe.. As for your question, i personally like to tack it a couple times and then do a couple knots at the end.. ☺️
Also.. initially made this video/short to answer your question except i’ve been so sleep deprived lately and i misread your comment and missed the “clear thread part” lol 🤦🏻♀️🥲😅 anywhooo.. i do the same thing when sewing with a clear thread so yeah.. lol oopsies! Might still be worth a minute of your time hehe 😜 czcams.com/users/shortsdMWslDRk_Vs?si=MfqHTyS8TaxPo_Nf

Great tutorial. I hope the part 2 doesn’t keep long? xx
Omg thank you so so much for your feedback! Im experimenting with video editing right now and trying to put out vids that are for people who really truly want to learn and make it easy and clear despite the language. 😅 I figured there is always a Playback speed option.. but maybe i can still try to speed it up a bit. 🤓 hehe

Oh my goodness !! This dress made me tear up. It’s absolutely SO stunning, and the sweet young lady was beyond beautiful in it ! It’s the perfect style too for her age and the function. It’d even make a gorgeous wedding dress !! My late mother made ALL kinds of clothes, especially mine because I was soooo wee tiny, and short of buying children’s clothing (not age-appropriate for me at any age as they were obviously kid’s clothes), she NEVER used a store-bought pattern. Usually just used her eyes and mental pictures she somehow could transfer from her head right onto the fabrics, and sometimes she made her own patterns, as you did here. Everything she made, from a basic box pleated skirt to slipcovers, and pinch-pleated curtains/drapes, etc., were always totally spot-on perfect ! I’m 75, and kid’s clothes back in the day were quite atrocious often times, and nothing compared to kids’ clothing these days ! I was so fortunate my mom was exceptionally talented and made things for me that were often the envy of many of my girlfriends. They always wanted to know where I got them so they could run to the store to get their own. 😂 I was often accused of lying about their origin because no one ever believed my mom could design and sew like she did. Often times I had girls come to my house and see her sew in person, and see her sketched designs, tons of fabrics, and (get this) the very old Singer treadle sewing machine she always used for all her work ! I learned to sew on it when I was about eight. I still have it, and other than needing a new belt, needles and a good cleaning/oiling, it’s in great shape. When I was moving into my new apartment a couple months ago, all the tenants were watching, but the ladies were mesmerized by that old sewing machine ! Some had never seen one in real life, some had never seen one, and everyone wanted it. 😆 Sorry ladies, but NO WAY that’ll ever happen. I need to amend my will to make sure it stays in the family and goes to my daughter !! She inherited absolutely no sewing skills of any kind from either me or her grandmother, and honestly had no desire to learn. I’ve often thought she can’t be my kid. 😂 She’s constantly bringing me clothing that needs mending, most things needing challenging mend jobs too ! Her second baby, who is now almost four, was born on 6/25. (First baby is 18 and graduating this Friday !) She got tons of clothes at the baby shower, but all summer stuff. Winter came rolling in sooner than expected here in 2020 and Kennidee needed warm things and hats, etc. I had a lot of fabrics from prior projects and planned projects, a lot of it being warm stretchy type fabrics, so I sat down and whipped her up quite a few hats, lots of fur ones, stretchy polyester, nice soft baby-suitable hats, most all with fringe-type strips on the top of the hat. I know there’s another word for that design, but it escapes me at the moment. Even made her a red and white Santa hat; very soft felt/flannel type body with white fur rolled up brim. It was darling. All the hats were super easy. I needed no pattern and they all had only one seam. Getting her to hold still for taking the measurements was the only difficult part of the process, especially the next year where cold weather slammed us early again. She was 1-1/2 then, walking/running, and way harder to keep her in one spot for very long. 😝 She loved her hats, and they saved my daughter quite a handful of money too. Kid’s clothes are so over-priced ! I embroidered 12 blocks and made her a sweet quilt. It’s mostly just for show and a keepsake since the background for all the blocks is white, but if she ever wants to cuddle up with it I certainly wouldn’t stop her ! I love making miniature textiles for her dollhouse too; rugs, curtains, pillows, tiny quilts and blankets, lampshades, tablecloths which I embroider also, embroidered pillowcases, shower curtains, decorative towels, just anything from fabric. Dog and cat blankets are fun to make also. I alter/remake some of her clothing too. Adding ruffles, which I make from scratch, onto the bottoms of her pants if my daughter still wants them long after she’s too tall for them, or cut them off and maybe add a ruffle or just a nice hem. Same thing with her tops. She had a favorite darling light blue denim shirt that somehow got quite a few stains on it. Never could figure out what they were from and couldn’t remove them either, so I embroidered several different styles of flowers over all the stains, matching all the colors perfectly, and I replaced all the buttons with tiny little flower buttons, since two were missing and couldn’t be matched. It looked like a brand new shirt. My daughter is going to frame it once she outgrows it. 😆 I also make lamps from old Mason and Ball jars (vintage and antique), and cover the shades myself. I used to sell them in a craft-type shop in Ohio, but I couldn’t keep up with the orders. Everyone and their cousins wanted them. Lol Once I have my craft room set up here, I may start making them again. Gosh, I’m blathering here. I need to hush up ! I want to further say, though, that you have an extremely amazing talent and you should be VERY proud of your work ! God surely overwhelmingly blessed you with such magnificent skills, both designing and so skillfully sewing your creations ! Thank you so much for letting us have a glimpse of the magical process of creating this masterpiece of a dress !! I was definitely gobsmacked !! This beautiful young lady will be forever proud of her dress and hopefully she has a cedar chest to store it safely forever. My wedding dress from 1968 is still in my cedar chest and as perfectly pristine as the day I wore it. I’d love for my daughter to wear it when she marries, but by today’s standards it’s way toooo old-fashioned looking. After I’m gone, if my daughter doesn’t want to keep it, I’ll insist she donate it to a hospital, probably the one I worked at for 18 years and where she was born also. They make burial gowns for all the female babies who die soon after birth, or are stillborn. Such a thoughtful, beautiful and touching thing to do. So, please take care and stay safe. May God continue to bless you. I’m sure you make many many people SO ecstatically happy with your sensational creations ❣️♥️ 🪡 🧵 Love, hugs and bountiful blessings. ♥️🤗🙏
Omg now your comment made ME tear up! 🥲 It’s been a rough couple of weeks so i cannot tell you how much your kind words mean to me. My grandma was a seamstress too, she was able to see some of the dresses i made back in college and she was one of the few that really inspired me to pursue fashion. It’s amazing how your mom did all that for you. Maybe one day i can do the same for when i have my own kids too. ☺️ Thank you for sharing your beautiful story. May you be blessed too and continue to be a blessing to others as well. The world needs more of you. 💞💞💞
Beautiful! I love the drape of the skirt.
Thank you! 🙏🏼😊
This is absolutely dreamy! Can i ask, what was the technique you used to drape the tulle? I've never seen that before.
Thank you so much! It’s honestly just a draping technique i learned from making so many dresses hehe.. I just posted Part 1 of the actual tutorial of making this dress which i’ll link below incase you’re interested ☺️ Posting the 2nd part next week which should include the draping of the skirt hehe Drape a Basque Waist Dress With Me! @@karla_roble thank you! I've actually already watched it 😄 looking forward to part two! Does this technique basically create a circle skirt but with the exact amount of gathering you want?

@@karla_roble haha I just discovered your channel a few days ago and I've already learnt a lot! It took my poor brain with zero spacial skills a long time to figure it out, but I still wasn't sure 😅 Thank you for sharing your knowledge with us!
@@katyb2793 Awww.. i’m so glad to hear that! 🥰 I will keep trying to improve and be clearer when demonstrating things better for sure. Im honestly not the most articulate when explaining things either lmaooo
