- Do you want to make a giant ballgown, or have a voluminous silhouette, but don't want to be encumbered by a thousand layers of petticoats? Then a Hoop Skirt is just the answer! Also known as a crinoline or cage skirt, it helps you give your skirts that large, dramatic shape while also remaining lightweight and flexible.
This tutorial will guide you through the making of your very own hoop skirt with a hem bag from start to finish. Towards the end of the video, you will also find some measurement guides on how much steel each hoop should be measured for a rough idea, although I recommend doing a mock-up first to see if the size is right for you. These measurements vary from a 23-inch (58cm) waist to a 55-inch (140cm) waist, but the possibilities are endless!

I just finished it and I love it! Since I didn’t have a mannequin, I had my mom wear it as I pinned it which was really helpful. Thanks for the tutorial!
@@myrandommind1148 good on you, mum! 👏🏻 I’m so happy you found this tutorial helpful! I would love to see your finished hoop skirt!

Very well done tutorial, this was easy to follow along with and simple to understand!
I’m really glad to hear that! I worried that I wasn’t making myself very easy to understand 😅
Could I space out the hoops more to make it at my ankles or would it mess it up
@@myrandommind1148 you can absolutely do that! The beauty about this tutorial is that it serves more as a guideline than rigid instructions, so you have a lot more freedom to change the shape and silhouette of it!
I recommend pinning all the hoops to the straps and giving it a test run before finalising the stitching of them down. That way you can move things higher or lower before having committed to anything. Good luck!
