Animusic is an American company specializing in the 3D visualization of MIDI-based music. Founded by Wayne Lytle, it is incorporated in New York, with offices in Texas and California. The initial name of the company was Visual Music, but changed to Animusic in 1995.
Lytle founded Animusic (originally under the name Visual Music) in 1995 with his associate David Crognale. Together, they released Animusic 1 originally in 2001 (and re-released in 2004, with 5.1 surround sound and extra content) and Animusic 2 in 2005. (and re-released in 2010, along with Pipe Dream from Animusic 1, in full HD)

yep.
Animusic is truly a forgotten gem (not many people heard of it, seen it, or even talk about).
;-; so true ;-;
The video for "pipe dream" has 12 million views. I don't think you can call Animusic "forgotten"
Honestly I watched theses every day as a kid
I heard about it just earlier today when I was watching a Vsause video because he mentioned it and for some reason I thought it sounded familiar yet I don't ever remember hearing about it before. I looked it up and it reminded me of a very specific memory of a certain video that looks very similar to this style that I watched early on in my childhood. So I've basically spent the past 2 or so hours I've been trying to find the videoing my memory (partly while watching this video) and I'm absolutely enthralled while baffled that this isn't more heard of
@@fionamcguinn which one?
I know there was never intended to be any sort of deeper lore with Animusic, but the empty nature of the scenes makes my mind go wild. There's not a single indication of organic life or activity, and it's almost unsettling.
I can imagine all of these taking place in some sort of futuristic alien planet, where the inhabitants created a variety of visually spectacular musical performances. Some run on pipes, others use electric currents, some use a clockwork of intricate gears, some are played by robots, and some have instruments which are the robots. Regardless of how it was achieved, these shows were always enjoyed by many.
But then, one day, the inhabitants all left abruptly. No damage is done to the infrastructure of the planet in their departure, but at the same time no one can deactivate or dismantle any of the technology left behind.
So, over and over again, these machines continue to preform. Unaware of the fact that there is no longer an audience to captivate, they continue as they were programmed to do. As memory of the abandoned planet fades, it remains untouched and desolate. On top of a tower, on a pyramid, on a stage, or even in the bowels of a laboratory, the machines preform the same routines for hundreds or thousands of years, unaware that they will never play before living eyes again.
I’ve always thought something similar, like how it’s all so empty as if the world outlives the organic life within it
I’m totally with you there! I would always make up stories, as a kid, for each song, for why the instruments played, and who they played for. Except I always imagined the audience there, and just not shown to us.
Are you alright?
And then the machines started a CZcams channel
When I woke up today I didn’t think that I would be reading Animusic lore
My entire childhood right here😭💖
I felt that
Yes, this is literally my entire childhood ToT
does rewatching these give anyone else like, and uneasy feeling. Like, it's so amazing, but it almost feels like a fever dream!
I used to watch these as a baby so I do agree that its our entire childhood. At least now we can find it all here

Every single one of these I'm either like "oh I know this one, this was my jam"
Or I'm like "huh I don't really remember this one" but then it starts and I'm like "oh my god I remember this!!"

This is the feeling I get on some of these
same here and I just looked this up just now and get nostalgia about it back then
it must be years ago since I watched this the first time
My favorite revelation about animusic is no matter how insane the setup is, pretty much every single song has a normal-ish looking drum kit
lasers and robots come and go; drums are forever
not all heros wear capes. Thank you for bringing this back

I remember watching this in my elementary school music class
I know it’s CGI, but I fully believe this level of complex robotics is entirely possible now
a lot of it was possible then. Pipe dream is just an oversized marble machine.
Just gotta figure out how to make the horns and drums subtly stretch when they play.😅
Lytle said in the commentary of A1 that A2 would at least be without floating drumsticks, so at least we're off the hook for that.
Except Pogo Sticks
I mean, yeah. Pipe dream has already been made by intel so I would think that if a group of people was passionate and determined enough it could be achieved
I don't think it would be that easy to make levitating drum sticks without some thin wire holding them.
after all these years, finally...

The Resonant Chamber proves you don't need every type of instrument (woodwind, percussion, etc.) to make a good song. You just need talent. And innovation.

I remember being amazed at just how _good_ Animusic looks on a standard-definition TV. Apparently the creators did some kind of special compositing on the DVDs to achieve this effect, and it's lost if it's played on a computer rather than being directly output to an SDTV from a DVD player. With how far upscaling technology has come, however, I expect it could probably be upscaled pretty well to HD if someone who really knows their stuff made an effort.
There's a bluray but it 100 dollars on Amazon
When I saw pipe dream on a standard monitor I thought it was real lol

The feeing you get from listening to this in music class in elementary school was something only 2000s kids got. Honestly is a lost gem of the 2000s.

No joke, my older brother worked on the set for Future Retro when he was in college. He got fired after he tripped and broke one of the mirrors that the green lasers bounce off of. Apparently the mirrors are made of gold and cost thousands each.

What would be amazing is programming an AI that could generate the visual control of this model based on musical input. So basically you sit down at a keyboard begin playing a piece and the 3D model animates in conjunction. You could either input all of the instruments live or recorded and the 3D model AI would animate and supplement any instruments not being supplied.

@@isaiahromero9861 Yeah! And the director's commentary was cool too!
@@randomexcessmemories4452 ohhhh yea haha, my favorite was acoustic curves though and I remember being so disappointed that they used that one to talk about other things not related to acoustic curves haha
@@randomexcessmemories4452 also nice daft punk reference in your username :) I looked at some of your playlists and I gotta say you have great taste in electronic music, I'm convinced animusic is what got me into it in the first place.
@@isaiahromero9861 Thank you so much! I wouldn't be surprised if it was Animusic that got me into it as well. It was sort of my musical awakening, and even sparked my early creativity to write my own music! I really should get back to that...
I love the harp, the flute, and the chime like sounds, very peacefully settling.
I am heartbroken that I just discovered something really awesome after it's time has already passed. But the more I listen to Animusic the more I sense that timeless quality that people will always look back on with fondness.
You missed out
Pipe dream was always my favorite. Oh the nostalgia.... oh the depression.
I have always loved Animusic, I'm a retired, disabled, 61 year old truck driver and your projects always amazes me, please keep up the great work.
i will always cherish and love animusic. my dad found out about it at one point or another, and i remember when he took me out to get the dvds. i was so young. and now? these pieces of music bring out a feeling of such blissful innocence. whether its joyful, excited, amped up, whatever. it makes me feel like a kid again. takes me back
こういうの好き〜日本の大学の文化祭とかで展示されてないかなぁ。
Man, it feels great to be coming back to hearing these.
why is animusic still a classic to this day who knew that a music genre that isn't popular but popular enough to survive today's music. animusic started way back during the 90s and became popular during the mid-2000s its insane i still love this music after 8 years since i first heard it... still a perfect classic with no flaws.
I remember I used to try to mimic the songs with drum sticks when I was a kid, I miss those days
Can’t believe i found it over all these years, I still remember these melodies!
My parents showed me and my sister this when we were young, we thought it was crazy these instruments were playing themselves/ by robots... and back in the day to a kid it looked super real!
