    Thing is, the movie has a basis in real world mythology. The creatures are Fae (Fey as an alternative spelling), or Faeries, specifically Tooth Faeries or Gremlins, possibly even Brownies and Boggarts, given their aggression. In real world folklore, creatures like these take small children into their dimension, known as the Faewild or Tir Na Noog. In exchange, they provide the family of the child with a changeling, a Fae that has shapechanged into a child to feed on the family or cause mischief. Meanwhile the child they take is made a servant of the Fae, altered and made into one of their own over time, similar to feral children in the wild.
    In certain versions of the lore as well, Fae make deals with people and will often take children or things of value in exchange for granting the patron a boon of some sort. The movie hints at this with their mention of the Pope making a deal with them, one in which the creatures are allowed teeth from the children in exchange for silver, whic they likely produce magically.
    During the darker years of history, Fae were regarded as dangerous, evil and mischievous, and were blamed for most wrongdoings in the house. If things went missing, a Brownie took it. If people died, a Gremlin or Troll was responsible. In Europe, Kobolds helped out in the fields and mines, but might cause them to collapse and burn if not respected and repaid for their efforts. More than that, the creatures don't die of old age and hold grudges forever. Modern pagans (myself included) often worry about angering them by forgetting their presence, and offer gifts of shining objects, teeth, hair, and sweet snacks to keep them appeased.

    • @lunaballuna
      @lunaballuna Před rokem +2

      @ Children have very active imaginations. It is extremely unlikely that a tooth fairy or boogeyman is hiding under their bed or in their closet. Their imaginary friend is just that, imaginary. So pray tell why a rational adult would believe any of it? Plus, this is a movie. Real children in real life don't just have a random picture of monsters lying around. So no shit adults would not believe them. Adults rarely have convincing evidence of supernatural/mythical beings, so why would a young children suddenly have access to evidence? Also, why feed into a child's imagination and fear of monsters? Why scare them more? Telling them it isn't real (which is the truth) is the more responsible action vs telling them the monster could exist (which they don't). These things aren't real, this is just a movie, and a movie will follow movie logic...like kids having access to evidence and the main characters somehow surviving a supernatural/mythical encounter like they are invincible.

    The dad deserved to be taken, however fea [or fey] lore tends to have one thing in common with its victims that they choose to join their ranks. Unwillingness, innocence, kindness, and Determination. If they dont have at least kindness they fea tend to just kill them instead.they like kind humans and dont like turning those who are cruel or dismissive. To a fea kindness and consent tends to be important, however this is because more often in fea they require acceptance and consent to take someone whether for food, slavery, or for turning. But when it comes to some fea consent is not needed for food or turning. They tend not to eat the kind humans either leaving them be or turning them, as in a strange twist the more sour their attitude the sweeter they taste. Nasty, mean, rude, or cruel, humans taste the best as their spirit is soft and often savory, where as kind, considerate, empathetic, or loving, humans tend to taste terrible as their souls are touph and bitter. This is things ive read from fea lore and that ive heard from my old irish grandma, so im not saying any of this is real just super elaborate folk tales. Some stories go as far as to describe how small fea like fairies particularly enjoy the flavor or company of those with extensive trama, mental issues, and guilty, on their mind. My grandma told me that the most important thing to keep in mind when disscussing these things is fea are of their own people. They are not human and have their own society, laws, social norms, and morals. They also have a right to survive to. So in a way we can never judge the fea by our own standards for we can not understand the reasonings behind someone from another world. This made me delve deeper into fea lore and my god is this stuff very crazy. One thing i found interesting is fea do not eat, turn, or enslave,babies contrary to what popular media says. When a fea replaces a baby with a changling it is because for one reason or another they took an interest in the child and wished to share the glory of the fea world with them, or it has nothing to do with the baby at all and they let the baby go somewhere else either when they are older or by droping them off to some other human. When it has nothing to do with the baby itself its normally about revenge or teaching the babies parents a lesson, or they wish to harm the parents but dont want to involve the innocent baby. The reason fea tend not to eat babies is sadly not as wholesome as one would hope as is all things that invole the fea. The reason is due to the blandness of a babies soul, they are fresh and new and thus have no flavor aka experience set into their soul. Babies also tend to be much more empty and free of the qualities fea normal look for when they wish to take or eat a human. Which makes fea keeping a baby a very rare occurrence. It is unlikely that a human would ever get raised by fea because fea dont even have interest normally in raising their own young. In the cases that they do its either a specific type of fea or the fea or human are extremely unic. The only reason why smaller fea tend to harass babies is because in all truth they cant even tell they are babies, sometimes they think their another fea only to realize too late and get annoyed or they think they are weird humans that can see them [as usually only babies can see fea]. Smaller fea are much more reckless and speratic so alot of the info ive given is give and take for them. Other then their preference for trama thats a definite constant for most small fea especially fairies. All in all take the info i have given with a grain of salt as its all from folk tales and a crazy irish grandma who misses being a gypsy.

    Seeing as how a kid with a flashlight can easily kill one of these “Faes”.
    I would suggest football stadium lights surrounding the furnace entrance to prevent them from leaving there(make sure no wires are within grabbing reach of the grate), and have a group of guys with 12 gauge buckshot(maybe birdshot considering size). And maybe have a few flash bangs and flamethrowers.
    Funny thing is. All the items I listed can easily be obtained.
