  • A shapeshifter justifies his actions as a means to survive and find true love. He switches between bodies, leaving a pile of corpses in his wake, all to reunite with the only woman he ever loved. But as the body count grows and his aging form becomes weaker, not even changing his face can spare him from the guilt and pain of his existence.

      That's a weird way to put it.
      Some Americans say they "see their dog as a child" it is a simple way to say we love this animal we will protect this animal, and give it the best life we can.
      Other Americans see a dog as a useful resource (i.e. drug, body location, service, protection) but any good person will respect this dog and treat it well.
      No one sees it as a person as in the same intelligence or rights.
      But have you ever rescued a dog? They can go from broken and aggressive, to kind and loving faster then you think. It's an pure love they feel and we have co-evolved. Dogs can read faces and body expression almost to a pre cognitive level.

    • @wisenotwise2676
      @wisenotwise2676 Před 2 lety +15

      @@nicholasmcfarland3737 that still sounds super weird, but having a dog with logical purpose makes sense, but loving it? Hugging it? KISSING IT?! and wasting extra resources for it while Americans themselves already being very wasteful?
      Look in my country we mostly have animals for essential purposes, if someone has a dog that means they need it for to get rid of leftovers like bones or hardened bread or any food in general because we hate to be wasteful, same goes with cows, if a neighbor has a dog or a cow other neighbors would bring leftovers to them
      It’s a situation where WE fail to understand Americans and Americans failing to understand us (perhaps)

      He isn't immortal - that's the issue. He is only borrowing the identity, but his aging old body is most likely what caused him to rot faster - ultimately he couldn't be able to sustain it longer than seconds and he would die from old age as his own identity. What his powers give him is only temporal youth, but even the age of the victim doesn't affect how long he can sustain the mimicry, as both younger women and older men rotted at similar rate.

    My interpretation is that this 'shapeshifter' is representative of a toxic mentality. The people we 'take over' are the people we hurt, either intentionally or by accident. We constantly change ourselves to be what someone else wants, rather than who we are, all to work our way into their life. Only at the end, when we 'break the cycle' as it were do we become our actual self, filled with the regret and memory of all the lives we corrupted along the way.

    Interesting movie production-wise: It had no main character. In different sections of the movie a different actor/actress was the main lead and had to immerse themselves into that one role. How interesting and challenging. It's also probably the reason why there isn't a household name actor in this movie; Those usually hog all the attention and at the same time are easier to market (easier to promote a movie by having 1 main actor travel around the world and give interviews). In this movie however, you have 6-7 actors playing the main role. Interesting, different, unpopular approach.

    • @ssbbSephi
      @ssbbSephi Před 8 měsíci

      i agree that is interesting, reminded me of a school project were everyone wants to play the lead role and splitting the "main character" into multiple main roles would have been a creative solution. The writing itself also seems to be on the level of a school project.

Shape-shifting, finding the next relationship and so on, and ending up empty and alone...well with their dog of course ♡

      We can assume he's a mutant human.
      His power is the ability to steal other people's lives (their appearances and memories) but only for a limited time before his original form resurfaces and he reverts back to the original.
      But he didn't know that. He assumed the "rotting" was him dying, and kept body hopping all his life to prevent the process from reaching its conclusion.
      Only at the end when he accepts death he discovers that it was just him returning to normal (after so many years, an old man) and that he killed countless people in vain living a miserable life while if he had gotten that courage earlier he could've had a normal existance.

Perhaps the victims do, so it's selfish to take it away for nothing in return. Honestly, it's cool to be alive, but the more I observe and learn, I'd rather not be born or just dead. It still be okay. Death is life's importance. Immorality is a fairly tale.

    I think the message that people are missing due to being distracted by the gruesome ways he had to survive is: he lived his entire life being anyone except himself, which is the part that makes this whole thing even more depressing. He never got to live his own life, instead he constantly became others... which concerns me as I know a friend who is living like that in a way. They never got to experience being themselves, instead they become the person that someone wants them to be, in order to later become them or complete other ulterior motives. As a result, they lack identity to the point where I feel as if it's non-existent for them, and to make up for it, they are constantly changing personalities and mimicking others to get by. You think oh god, this is terrible, but thankfully this is just a movie, BUT NO IT'S FUCKING HAPPENING METAPHORICALLY IRL.
    To try and cheer things up, at least it's rare..? Although, this movie really messed me up. >_>
