Buell Cyclone Suspension Repair With Superglue? EP4

- Buell Cyclone Full Suspension Rebuild Part 1! In this video we start the teardown of the bike to completely go through the well worn suspension. I remove the rear shock to be rebuilt, I do repairs to the fork tubes using some superglue and polish, I clean and repack the steering bearings, and address the damaged foot pegs. In part 2 I will finish up the bike and go for a test ride to see how drastic the improvement is!

Thank you! In regards to the trailer I have noticed my best performing videos (the first Buell video) do best with some sort of teaser like many other channels. Since I have a lot of new susbscribers as well I try to show what kind of variety and detail people will see in my videos which is why I use my 35-40 second intro. It's tough

i was interested in watching this buell come back from the junk heap but it seems after watching, maybe thats where it should have been, this fella worked hard to make this bike as good as possible, i wanted to purchase a buell before but not now, too much frustration
Don't let the poor workmanship from the previous owner steer you away from a great bike platform. Once sorted the bike was a lot of fun. Just had to fix bad work which can be the case for any bike.
Done that fork fix a couple of times, holds up pretty well. Though: allways polish longitudenaly! But one botched bike!

That seat screw was also reverse threaded. Apparently the guys at the Harley shop didn’t know that and stripped the seat hole out. I just recently installed a bolt in the seat hole with two part epoxy and use a wing nut to secure it.

Pretty sure I remember seeing someone slightly modify a lag bolt to replace the seat bolt. I think someone on badweatherbikers found an actual replacement on a hardware website at some point too, but probably cost a lot more. Always wanted to see if I could get a rivnut on the bottom of the seat do I could use a regular screw, but I haven't gotten that far yet.
I did end up using a 5/16 lag bolt which worked perfectly to my surprise. I plan to modify it to be a more hand tighten type deal
Will you be riding it as a rigid until the shock gets back ?
Oh no, the bike has already been fixed, rebuilt shock, rode a bunch, and now sold to a friend.
Done the CA glue on a few forks. I've had it last several seasons.

@@BrickHouseBuilds Yes. Buddy did a fork swap from a Aprillia Shiver to his BMW F800 popular swap for F800 owners. The Forks and a dig in the chrome in the seal path. We carefully filed the ridge down then filled the depression with CA glue. Then we sanded with 800 to 2000 grit and polished with some chrome polish. That was 3 summers ago and he rides the f800 off road hard.. Its still holding. With that success Ive used the trick to re pair a couple of vintage bikes Ive fixed up with some rust and pitting on the fork tubes... No one near me does re chroming on forks and replacement simply cannot be found for some of these bikes.

@@BrickHouseBuilds I also had a 2002 Buell Cyclone. Ultimately I got rid of it (kinds miss it tho) because of the front motor mount. It is a metal bush bonded to a rubber isolator. The tube frame Buell engine hangs from this mount ( it up just behind the head stalk). However it is a standard Harley part that was used in some softtail models but in that application the evo twin sits on it. Original part was made by Barry Controls who changed the rubber compound at Harleys request to soften vibs in the Big Twin. This had the effect of isolators quicky failing in the Buell application. So...keep an eye on this you can see any damage from looking up from underneath and it usually manifests it self by the rubber pulling away from the metal bush... Good news is even a failed isolator will not let the engine mount collapse....but it will send on major vibes to the chassis and handle bars...lots of threads over on Badweather Bikers forum. To my knowledge this was never resolved with the tube frame Buells as Buell corrected the design in the XB Series and moved on. Love the series anyways!

That fork tube fix for the dent looks good. What did you use to harden the superglue?
Nothing beyond just letting it sit in the sun for a while before working with it. Pictures were impossible to do on that reflective surface but I wish I could have shown it better
You can buy a spray activator for rapid hardening.
What size pipe did you use for the rear shock? Do you have a rebuild video for the rear shock? Thank you in advance. Really appreciate all the time you spent in these videos its helped me.
I'm not sure on the pipe. It was just some scrap I had that allowed a couple holes to be drilled. The shock I had rebuilt professionally by velocity calibrations. They should be linked

The bike is like a child's bouncy ball right now it's ridiculous. Gonna do the pipe fix till I find something here.
@@jaybourbon8608 It was a very fair price considering there are no cheap replacements. It was done right and worth the price.
@jaybourbon8608 the pipe was so the bike could simply roll. DO NOT RIDE IT LIKE THAT! THAT WOULD BE EXTREMELY DANGEROUS
@@BrickHouseBuilds Just picked it up. Bike was sitting for 12 years. Got it running, but I'm just gonna run the pipe in the back for now. No different then a hard tail chopper. So if I drop the back end down a few inches. Can I compensate with the front forks by sliding the tubes up a bit?
How did the superglue work out? I used expoxy on mine and it worked well. A year later no problems.
It lasted the rest of the season no issue. My friend from the other video owns the bike now so we will see how it continues to last

Going well. The bike belongs to a friend now who is local and we will definitely get more miles on it this season. So far so good though

My old 84 Kawasaki KR250 tandem twin 2 stroke had the shock underslung like that, so did the RZ500, i always thought it was a stupid place to mount it, in the perfect place to catch any crap from the road. Do Buells use metric or Ye Olde Medieval size fasteners. :-)
Mainly standard but I feel there are a few metrics snuck in there

Unsure but there are much better bikes for all out speed. From some others who have these I think 120-130 is max
