  • An honest chat about work-life balance in a big 4 firm based on my experience working in in consulting at a big 4 in London for the past year. The good, the bad and the mildly not beautiful 🤓 Here I talk through a few things that have affected the way my projects have gone so far and also a few examples from this year in consulting. I currently work at KPMG as an audit assistant, 2 months in, but my major is Financial and Management Engineering, not accounting, and this work, with little things I did already, because I am somehow on the bench, with random tasks occasionally, it seems dull and boring, not interested in accounting...I wanna out after a busy season... cannot do it as a career, need to be challenged with creatively

That’s very understandable! For us as well it’s been a lot of bench time and sometimes it can just get too dull and far from what you want to be doing. Really hope you find a way to do what you enjoy a bit more, whether in your current job or not- wishing you best of luck!❤️

@@AnastasiaKrokhina Ty!!! Is consulting more interesting in terms of calculating and trying to implement a way of thinking similar to strategy and investment? Because almost from audit department wants to get to consulting

I’d say you definitely get access to more variety in your work in consulting - some of it can be very interesting (e.g. culture, org design, big transformation projects etc for me being in human capital within consulting) and some of it can be very adminy like PMO roles where it’s just a ton of status reports and action logs (although these are more common at junior grades). At the moment economic climate means we get very little say on what type of work or client we get and you mostly have to take whatever sold role comes your way. But my hope is that as the economy improves we’ll be able to guide our career development a bit more proactively again. I’d say definitely have a look into the different departments within consulting and see which one resonates the most (sounds like strategy might your jam!)- the move from audit to consulting is quite common so I’m sure you could do it if you want to. Hope it all works out for you!
