i work in the Civil Service and consultants from the big 4 charge a BOMB to us! i guess in certain bits of our work only they have the capabilities to carry out the services we require. prior to that i was in a medium sized practice but i knew what the path looked like and decided against it otherwise would have sought a bigger practice.
If you value your mental health and life don't do audit at a big 4.
