  • Paul looks at covering and building a huge 12m dome made from timber and horticultural polythene. Costs where about £2000 for materials and the dome covers just over 111 square meters and is 4.7m tall. In imperial sizes that's 40' diameter, 15' 6" tall and covering nearly 1200 sq ft. The stop frame animation was messed up because the camera battery went flat.

    :)
    If I were judging, I'd say . . .
    Thanks for offering the excellent work of your hands and heart for good, truth and beauty in the world.
    (And for having the patience to spell it out for the dullard in me . . . )
    Paul,
    Best on you and yours!

      7 years in and still going strong

  • @jevgenijsdorofejevs2738

    will it hold more robust insulation and outside layers or you will need stronger beams for that?

    It's brilliant ( a bit fast the video of the assembly) having found this it answers my question on the other video on material used. Still see you climb up on it is amazing. Do birds like craws etc not fly into the plastic and rip it? Then how do you fix it?

    Are the staples rust resistant, galvanized?

  • @TheRebelmanone

    is that made of wolmanized wood or regular kiln dried? What would you say is better for this kind of dome?

  • @TheRebelmanone
    @TheRebelmanone Před 2 lety

    Since your triangles are too big to do without those extra 3 half struts, then it could have been designed as a higher frequency dome and then those extra 1/2 length struts wouldn't be extra anymore, they would be actual struts with the bevels. I know it is more work in both design and building, but you get paid for it. lol
    But it wouldn't be you if you didn't figure out how to make it more simple at the same time saving money and materials. You are excellent for knowing how to simplify for benefit(cost and time savings),

    Do you need planning permission to build one this size in the UK?

    • @Geo-Dome
      @Geo-Dome  Před 6 lety

      If you don't go over 3.2m in height an it's further than 1m from a boundary you won't need planning permission in most places in the UK. You best check the regs for your area though, If your in an area of outstanding natural beauty for example you will need permission. Hope this helps

    Nice build but its not a 12 meters and 111 square meters.I think its half that size if its a 4V.

    • @johnosullivan675
      @johnosullivan675 Před 5 lety +3

      It's 4V with ~1.8m struts. Each of the triangles is braced with 3 shorter struts to make 4 0.9m triangles. That's almost the equivalant of an 8v format. If you calculate the area or diameter or height using those numbers it comes out well over 100m2.
