  • Introduction to building a geodesic dome using plans from Geo-Dome.co.uk. Geo-dome plans are simple to follow and you can make a beautiful looking dome using basic woodworking tools. Paul has customers all over the world who have successfully build domes using this build method, see this page for a selection of domes customers have built: www.geo-dome.co.uk/forum/artic...

    You are very clear and your explanations are straightforward and focused. I truly appreciate the time you have put into sharing this information and am excited to be building my first dome with your plans and methods in the coming weeks. I will be sure to document the process and send you some pictures when it's all finished.

    While the Polythene sheet used to cover each triangle will be the cheapest option, it is also prone to UV damage, that will cause it fall apart in about 4-5 years and you would have to take the dome down and cover every single triangle again, which lets face it, will be a complete PITA...What is needed is transparent material that is not effected by UV, so you can put up the dome and forget about having to do maintenance on it. And using wood struts is asking for trouble too, as wood rots.

    These are the best and most easy to follow instruction vids I have seen on biodome construction. I was a bit concerned when I started researching them, but now I can't wait to get started on one. Thank you :)

    Hi Paul,
    Great Dome but it would be really useful if you had included in the video how you cut the angled chamfere on the struts.

    Amazing I'm the last one to comment on this video and I'm still looking for a 4V geodome kit to build. Keep coming back to this topic. Spent the last few years at a boat building academy so I easily have the skills and tools to do this... just looked at the arrowhead method and opted out of that and find myself here once again... and convinced this is the way to go forward. So I'd better get the plans. This will become, not a greenhouse, but a floating clamping sauna AirBnB here in Scandinavia...

    at 7:45 you have joined 2 triangles together with c clamp, how come the triangles are not lying flat on the table but are at an angle? I know the pentagon triangles must be at an angle but how did you make that angle?

  • @F1nddatruth
    @F1nddatruth Před 12 lety

    Any Updates to your build? I just put together a paper model using pents and triangles the converging pents formed the hexs on a 2v dome so I think that the rip cuts are all suppoused to be at 7deg. Also, the only mention I can find anywhere on the net about what angle to cut is 7deg. The only place I can see this not being true would be around the door and at the base. I want to build a small test dome to make sure I have it right before I build my 24ft greenhouse.

    hello
    paul, I'm a boy from Spain and I'm thinking about making a dome, but
    you'll see, it's very complex to understand how to form the triangles, -
    you'd be so kind to send me a simple graph with your measurements of
    the molds I need
    to build a v4 dome 12 meters in diameter?
    and
    if you could answer another question, because I've seen your videos but
    I do not speak English, I'm using the translator to write to you.
    to mount the dome I must mount the pentagons first?
    or hexagons too?
    Well I think this is all ,,, I would really appreciate your response ,,, greetings from Spain and excellent work.

    I have been trying to work out the same thing. I found something indicating that it should be 12 degrees for the hex and 10 degrees for the pent. I was just going to try 11 degrees all round......tolerance and all that!

    Hi Paul, I would like to built a 3v 7/12 dome with 6 m diameter. Therefore I use a calculator. Bur the calculator doesn`t give me all informations I need. I want built a lot of single wooden tringels and then put them together t create the dome. But I don`t know how long the single wooden strut must be (there are sure different lengths), how to cut them at the ends and in which angle I have to cout the lengthside of the struts. Even if I would have the angles and dimensions of the single struts I have to know how many I need of each. And next is how many different triangles (triangle A with struts a and b, triangle B with struts b an c and so on) I need and finally in wich series I put the triangles tigether to get ma dome. Can you help me anyhow? Would be great. Thanks Paul

  • @akperov2
    @akperov2 Před 11 lety +1

    i still don't see how compound angles are not necessary with this kind of plan. your table saw must tilt enough to cut the inward angles. no? your website does not give necessary angles for those domes without hubs.

    Can anyone in the UK please let me know what a 60mm No4 screw is. Thanks.
    I bought one of Paul's plans and here in NZ we don't use the No4 labeling.

    • @PaddyNinja
      @PaddyNinja Před 2 lety

      60 mm is the length of the screw No4 is the diameter of the head. This metric is more precise but it melts my brain. I understand how it can be confusing. Hope this helps bud.

      There is a bevel on the outside of all the triangle frames, it's hard to see in the video but that is what forms the shallow pyramid shape.

    Do the following:
    1. Cut one A
    2. Cut one B
    3. Cut one C
    Do NOT assemble
    Now do the following:
    1. Place a strip of wood INSIDE strut A and cut it.
    It will automatically be shorter. It will become the INSIDE
    strut of the template for side A.
    2. Repeat this for B
    3. Repeat this for C
    4. Now assemble these pieces and affix to plywood, etc.
    5. And start building.
