Magic the Gathering Swamp Alter Tutorial

- A brief video on how I alter Magic the Gathering cards, start to finish. What I used:
- Torn up cardboard box to mix colours on
- A couple small brushes from the dollar store
- Sand paper
- A cup of water
- Reeves pack of 10 colours acrylic paint tubes

i possibly agree but without the soothing tones of Bob Ross if i just need to have something on to relax me while i am painting i just have his videos on in the background the only problem is you end up watching Bob do his thing rather than doing yours lol

I have no idea why it is in my recommended right now, but I noticed that youtube throws more smaller channels at me lately.
And I must say it was enjoyable to watch this one. I will come back when my interest in magic rekindles once again.

Great tutorial, the only other thing I would suggest is using a matte spray with uv protection. It will help seal your art and prevent fade over long periods of exposure. It also helps blend the painted areas with original art so make it more seamless. Light sprays, nothing too thick. I like Golden and Krylon to name a few brands.

Yes but be careful because some kind of varnish dosent work well with certain type of paint/ink. You need to test it first on something else. I once did a nice alter, then applied a varnish I had for miniatures and it ruined the painting.
You can also use matte hairspray as a cheaper option if you are low on cash! I always did that in art school :P

You totally painted a face into the stone and stairs! You can really tell around the 24 minute mark when you turn the card sideways. What a neat thing

All the videos I've seen so far are great, but yours is my favorite. I hope you do more of these videos. The outcome was beautiful and you did it without any complicated tools or materials. Thanks to this video I have now made it a goal to go to the dollar store and start altering my lands :) I love full arts but this way I can have a fun hobby to practice, I'd have never have figured out the sand paper bits!

Costs more. They have a strict release schedule and now that Hasbro owns it, they are more about getting the product out based on the quarter release each part of the year.

great vid what i liked the most believe it or not was your choice of materials there are so many youtubers intent on convincing people that they have to use expensive brushes and paints when its really more about the artist/painter. while i would say having good quality paints and brushes can when you have the experience make things a bit easier they are not magic and dont give the user talent if they haven't got it and you sir have got talent though i would suggest perhaps to save some time at the end masking the section you dont want paint on would be an option.
I hope you have more of these videos planned. When I checked your channel I was shocked to find that this was your first. good job.

Thank you for the tutorial. May I suggest, however, please use a lighting source from above to reduce shadows and bring clarity to actually what you are doing. When you are working such dark colours, it is really hard to process. Thank you.
Thank you for the feedback! The video can be a bit too shadowy indeed. For the newer video's i made sure i had a bigger window with more light, and some more zooming as well. It's more challenging than i originally anticipated to show everything! But with feedback improvement will follow. Thank you ;D

hey man, look up wet pallet. it's basically a sheet of water absorbing and retaining material like sponge or toilet paper, with a layer of baking parchment(the white one) over it, in a tray.
keeps your paints wet for a much longer time, even when uncovered!

@@PieterSneep I know some cards ink can be removed with acetone to leave just the foil behind. If anyone could do it, you probably could lol.

Love it, turned out gorgeous, full painting would be great. wouldn't u love a full art cards edition, not talking about masters (last one) I mean only the art... I think ppl would buy it, at least the most iconic cards the "master" master cards from the master edition (thats a lot of master :D )
