Hi, how are you? I hope so, even unheated I hope I can achieve this. It has been a slow start of the season so far, temps are still low but ambiant temps have started to improve. I will be heated one day when I extend the pond.
@@LauMagroTheFrenchKOInection I am surprised at the choice of the Japanese connoisseurs, who don't really care about SHOW, etc. I think people would be amazed if they could see the increased physique! Well, after some settling down, we expect them to fulfil a full feeding period like we do in this summer!
Hi Alan, that's very kind of you. So very little time. Not much to film other than updates every now and again. I don't want to put content out for the sake of it if that makes sense. Hope you are well Alan and all is going well your side.
Great to see you back. The showa is stunning; I was waiting for you to pick a chagoi too though. I'll be doing a similar trip on Monday, to Tims, if my pond holds its 12 degrees
Haha, I was so hunting for a Ginrin chag... I will once I have extended the pond 😀 Exciting news about picking up your fish. You'll have to send me a video or photos.
Wow!!! Nice choice Lau, 👌 like many have said she's going to be stunning. And I look forward to seeing her progress. Also very keen to see that temperature rise and welcome in Summer ☀️ As Always Be Well Lau 👍
Hi Lau you have certainly got an eye for the koi. Firstly, really sorry to see that you have lost the kujaku, he was a great example. BUt you can now concentrate on your new fish, which is a very good example of a Maruyama Koi Farm body and shape. They tend you specialise in Kohaku as you might well know, but are known for their excellent bone structure. Rarely do we see a young koi with such wide head. I like the fact that you have commented on the body and head shapes rather than pattern as people normally do.
Thank you Mark for the comment. Yes Maryama are well known for their large fish. I am so so impressed by her overall size and incredible head. Her mouth is so wide. Absolutely incredible
What a fish! Not often you see a fish with such potential and such a head! But then we are talking about Maruyama Koi Farm. I would agree with Atsumi, this fish has got the potential to reach a large size. I remember that you are not heated and it's a fairly small pond, but you have the potential to have a large fish if pushed in a careful manner. We spoke a lot about nutrition, and I know you understand the feeding intensively but not to the detriment of the koi shape or health. Good luck. Impressive. Sorry about the Kujaku, he was bright, a real loss.
Hi Mimi, long time no speak. Hope all is well in South Africa. I can see that the shows have started and the season is well underway. Thank you for the comment. Yes I remember our discussions about nutrition, most definitely one of my favourite topics of interest. I am so amazed by her size, head and body shape. She stands out in the pond.
So happy to see you back, we’ve missed you. Hard to let fish go but the right decision. The new one is a stunner and as you say ticks a lot of boxes, love the way big girl took her under her peck ❤ Welcome back Lau, have a brilliant summer 🤗
Aww bless. Thank you, that's sweet of you. Yes she is something. The video doesn't do it justice, she is 45cm but a big round girl 🤩 hope all is well your end.
Thanks Dave. It happens unfortunately.. I took the risk to raise the Ginrin chag as his mouth wasn't too bad but obviously as he reached 50cm, the deformity was actually conducting through the spine. As for the kujaku... Yeah, big blow... Thanks for watching
Glad to see you back. Your new showa has got to be one of the most amazing showas I have ever seen. Beautiful body shape and the colours just seem to pop. I can only imagine what she'll look like with a few months of growth on her. Certainly a long drive to get her but well worth it. Cheers 👍🏻 👍🏻 👍🏻
Nice to see you back, sorry Lau for your loses, your latest Koi from Queni is so very beautiful, it will be nice to see how she developes as time passes, best wishes, Tony😀
Nice to see you back , Lau . Love the new addition but sorry to see you`ve had your ups and downs . Such is the life of a koi keeper . I also lost a really nice kujaku , last week . He had a red mark on the dorsal when I got him , which we considered to be transportation damage , but unfortunately he got worse and couldn`t be saved . Think it was a bacterial problem . I did get a full refund from the dealer , but will be difficult to replace , as he was a really nice fish .
Ah, sorry to read that. So you didn't see it at the shop or did you have it shipped? Glad you got your money back. Mine had a major problem with his mouth, all inside which I have never heard of before.
@@LauMagroTheFrenchKOInection Yes , I`d seen the damage when I bought it . Just a small red mark on the dorsal . Both me and the dealer thought it had probably just got damaged when previously being netted , or something Could have been that , but maybe a sign of something more serious . It was a really nice fish , so took the chance on it . Probably wont do it again , but we live and learn !
@@hippo5346 absolutely. When I went to pick up this one, I wasn't entirely happy with the way she was with marks but didn't write her off. So sorry to hear about the loss of your kujaku, a real beauty. A farmer's old saying is that if you have live stock, sometimes you'll have dead stock and unfortunately it's often the prettiest fish ☹
Absolutely Nick. I was raised in a farm in France so my grandfather always said the same thing. He was a beauty. It's still a bit weird.. thanks for watching and commenting
Hi Phil. I did last year but all my nitrates readings have gone, from the pond and tap water, barely any readings now. So I am not using the resin anymore. It would be complicated to explain but I followed exactly what TANK TV does. If you go to his channel, he has a video called 'how to generate a nitrate vessel'. I followed that exactly. In the comment section of that video, I asked him at the time how much salt and he has replied. That will give you some guidance. Hope you are well?
@@philbosher6959 just grabbed an NT labs test kit. It goes from 10, 20, 40. You say 30. I don't think it's horrific. Ideally you want to be at 10-20. But is that nitrate causing you any problems? To be fair, the nitrate unless at high level won't cause you any problems, especially if you are not breeding or pushing the fish to very large size. High level can cause them to be sterile, can cause redness (which can be caused by a lot of other things), can reduce their appetite and high level combined with phosphate can accelerate the algea growth. But other than that, I wouldn't worry too much. I was at times at 60, so I didn't want to stay at that. But I am at 5-10 now. So I don't worry anymore. Still check it every now and again.
Hi Alan, thank you for asking. I am very well thank you. Just so busy with work, family, friends, animals including koi. But I am well thank you for asking. Hope you are well too. My email address is in the 'About'
This is the type of KOI that, if it can be extended to the late 50cm this summer, we can expect to see 80 cm or more eventually.
