  • What a poor July 2023 in terms of weather in the UK.. Whilst Europe was roasting, here in the UK, we have experienced the worst July. August can only get better :-)

    3:26 It's going great! At the moment, the surface is not yet shiny, but this is to be expected as the feeding period is still underway. The body shape is of a slightly more egg-holding type, so this is also where the skills are shown. If the eggs are not forcibly released, they begin to be absorbed into the body around late August, and with continued strong feeding, these nutrients are converted into subcutaneous fat on the body surface and eventually converted into TSUYA and TERI by thickening the tailpipe. Until now, we have not bothered to mention these matters because we could not find a KOI worth explaining, but these are the very essence of the finishing touches to our HINPYOKAI, and symbolise the pointlessness of taking KOI outside in mid-summer, as is often the case there.

      Hi Atsumi. Interesting information. Thank you.
      But you know, I cannot feed like I was last summer. The temperatures and weather have been terrible here all July. I just hope that August is going to be ok. But my pond only stayed at 22 degrees for about two weeks. Otherwise, all July it has been between 18 and 19 at the most. So not great feeding season so far.

      @@LauMagroTheFrenchKOInection Thank you. As you know, I lived in the UK, so I understand that. So if you are equipped with a heating system, it is my opinion that now is the right time to get it up and running. Well, one goal is to build up enough strength and physique to allow them to spend the winter without heating. This would be cost-effective and advantageous for the KOI.

      @@atsuminaoki9910that's right, but this year has been the worst so far. Just no warmth. I am glad you visited last year and not this year. At least you have a good summer in Japan so far I hear. My friends are an hour from Tokyo and they are hot!
      Can't heat this year, but next year the koi will get the full benefit of the heat all spring, summer until end of autumn 😊

      @@LauMagroTheFrenchKOInection In any case, the fate of the promising SHOWA is how the eggs can be absorbed into the body without being carried over from this summer to autumn. If she get through this, it will be on the way to becoming jumbo KOI!

      @LauMagroTheFrenchKOInection  Před rokem +1

      @@atsuminaoki9910absolutely, I totally agree with you. I feel she is missing out on the feeding this year. Which is a shame as she is nisai. But honestly, I can't do anything until next year. I am monitoring her egg absorption/situation.
      One thing is sure, she won't be close to 60cm in autumn as I would have hoped. But again, that's because I am not heated. Next year. 😊

    I find a long flexible bamboo Caine around 8-10mm is perfect for cleaning the base of both nexus and eazypod. Stuff it down to the base and rub it all around the base ,under and behind the air ring and I guarantee you will not get any settlement in the base of your nexus or eazypod-do this every clean,it takes about 1 minute and you don’t get wet or dirty.
    Also I drilled more holes on the underside of my eazy air rings pointing down to help eliminate sediment and gives a more ferocious boil

      @LauMagroTheFrenchKOInection  Před rokem

      Hi, regarding the vine, keep in mind that when the leaves fall, it will be everywhere. But most importantly, when you have the flowers of the grapes, or grapes themselves, that will go everywhere and the dried little flowers will leave a mess. If you watch Sid in Canada from Koi Run, he has grape vine above his pond. He explains.
      For the window, don't be nervous. Mine is not big. That was my first pond I build, and providing you get the right thickness of glass and put the 'glue' bead correctly, you will be fine. Also I would advise to sandwich the liner between the walls (whatever you use - bricks or sleepers) and the glass. In my early video, I shown how I did it. And there are other videos on CZcams, but I wouldn't advise to glue the liner on the glass. Keep in mind that the glue/silicone, whatever you want to call it, doesn't stick in cheap plastic liners, but only on rubber liners. If you got with fiberglass, then you won't have any problems anyway.

Within 3 weeks of using it, none of the fish were flashing anymore and it's been like that ever since. Despite the level of metals in my tap water. It's very bad here for copper, iron, aluminium and zinc. So it worked for me and I know it has worked for a lot of people. It's expensive, but so nice to see the fish not going mad after each water change. It has also helped my nitrite to stay very low, unlike last year when all my nitrite readings were through the roof.

      @@UpNorthKoiPond that's great. I saw a change within 3 weeks, then wasn't sure if it was necessary to carry on but I stuck to it as I know it's an ongoing problem here with metals. And it takes a long time to be fully into the system as such. But the more I speak to people who show, the more I realised that so many people were using it.

    Fish looking great . It`ll be a shame to see the old pond go , as you put a lot of effort into it - but I`m sure the next one (notice I didnt say "final one"😆) will be even better . A drum will will definitely make cleaning easier and give you more time for your other interests . Hi, I am waiting on Mike Hughes (ex Queni Koi) who is opening a large place. He is testing some drums from Germany. So I am not 100% just yet.
      Protein skimmer is doing a great job but in my case, it needs a better filtration before. Too much stuff go through the Tempest (which is best as polisher). I clean the protein skimmer twice a year. A right pain as I have to take out all the media and clean it by hand. But if I had a better filtration before that, it would be better.

    you have a good pressure filter , but it is not big enough for the size of your pond as a pre filter , you should have minimum 16000 ltr one , i used to use 30000 ltr oase pressure filter , now i just use the oase 140000 screenmatic 2 , excellent filter ,

    • @LauMagroTheFrenchKOInection
      @LauMagroTheFrenchKOInection  Před rokem +1

      Hi Darren, so on this pond there are 4 separate systems of filtration. None of them are connected. Eazypod (mechanical only) to the bio chamber (75 litres of K+ and 10 litres of ecochips). Then pressure filter to prefilter the multibay which itself is mechanical with the vortex and the brushes and the chamber of sponges, 2 chamber of 20 litres each of Hel-X 13, followed by the chamber of Jap mat and ceramic media. On the other side of the pond, 2 separate system again, skimmer goes to tempest which goes into a protein skimmer (tornado 3) Then, separately, an Oase pressure filter (mechanical) going to the shower (3 tiers of BioHome media, CSM ceramic media). It's a massive amount of filtration for a little pond 🙂

    I see your feeding pelits with the auto feeder but at the end it looked like you were hand feeding sticks? If so that could be why you have alot of waste. Koi sticks are not great for koi digestion and produce alot of waste. Your better off getting a good quality pellet like Hikari and just feed that. you should then cut down on your waste.

      Next pond will be more manageable. Drains and drum is the way. Good luck also if you can build the pond so you can reverse the flow with opposite returns for even growing. I had an easy pod as a mechanical stage for a couple of years and it does take alot of cleaning but works better for clarity when blocked . But a nice drum and a big bio will be perfect.

      Hi, two separate systems, they are not connected. The pond is high, so the mutibay would have to be above the eazypod, go gravity into the eazypod which in turns gravity back into the pond.
