Good for Kirby
Didn't know ultimate had taunt cancels before this I just thought I wasn't reacting fast enough to get a punish
have to admit, it is pretty easy to aggravate players when you're using Kirby. Somehow he just feels so dirty. Like you're so small they can't hit you and then the down-b from above off the screen always is a perfect enraging revenge. throw in taunts and they will lose their mind.
@@dddmemaybe Don't forget the kirbycide.
Friend: Smash is very easy to pick up and play
Beginner's guide: There's about 632 different types of dodge, 912 types of getting up a ledge and 300 different types of recovery
Your friends said it was easy? It is one of the more complicated games in nintendo
@@brosephproseph1741 He said it was easy compared to games like injustice, street fighter and mortal kombat
James Rumsey Itâs not. Tekken is probably the only fighting game that is truly more complicated at the end of the day.
@@mirewalker Smash is absolutely easier for beginners than traditional fighters. At top level play Smash is complicated, but the basic inputs are really easy for people with no fighting game experience. No quarter-circle inputs or anything, just press the button while holding the right direction. Hell, you can literally do everything with only three buttons (and analog stick).
Forthelemon Indeed, at a beginner level. I never argued otherwise. But at the top levels of play, Iâd say Smash is not any less complicated in certain areas than other fighters. Itâs easier in some, harder in others. Melee has more tech than just about any other fighter, Ultimate has more characters. I also donât think itâs fair to say that because there arenât quartercircle inputs itâs less âcomplicated.â Smash still has a shit ton of movement options, tilts, specials, tech, SDI, recovery, character match ups, etc. Itâs plenty complicated. Smash also has a unique style of battle, and depleting a health bar is a lot easier for an inexperienced gamer to do than recovering off the stage; there are different hurdles for newcomers to overcome.
Smash is one of those games that are fun to play but very hard to master.
Ikr, I had so much fun winning with Peach but when I heard how good she is and saw what she does I just sticked to mashing buttons until I get a turnip or someone dies
I agree, but I feel like itâs more of one of those games that is fun until your friend figures out that it is possible to main a character that isnât Kirby
Exactly Iâm using to playing the wii version then picked this up its sooo different
I'm pretty decent super smash Bros but I do not have smash ultimate yet. I'm one of those people who have the best combos and just keep locking you into it.

It's important to learn the basics again for every new game since they change. Not to mention, remembering the basics are always pivotal if you want to win games.
edit: for instance I come from pm/melee/brawl and didn't know that I could improve my smash ultimate fox-trot/d-dance by stopping for a ~frame for turn-arounds instead of me just waiting so long instead.

what button combos lead to a grab?
Ok just bought a switch and I've never owned a Nintendo console so I really needed this guide. That being said, I think my friend wanted me to buy Smash so he can destroy me.
"Don't worry, it's simple" he lied.
just keep practicing and youâll destroy him one day
It is easy to pick up but takes a long time to master. Dont worry you will catch up once you figure out what type of fighting style works best for you.

Also, unpopular opinion, but play multiplayer and items and all that chaos. Some people like me really enjoy it and there's a bigger luck factor, so you don't actually need to know every counter and every matchup. Just be clever.

Good mention- the "jump" button, as well as most sets of actions (like Tilt attacks) are mappable to whatever controller option you prefer. In this video, he used button visuals for the GameCube controller. Hopefully this elaborates a bit more for you!
The 'How to play'-guide in-game also states: "To jump, press the jump button". It's not beginner-friendly.

i've only been able to play this at friends' houses (ps4 owner here) but i've always had fun with it. but since i only get to play it a handful of times a year i'm really bad at this game. i never have enough time to get used to the controls.
this month i finally caved and got a switch and this game! this is really helpful.
If you would like to improve some more give me your discord and I can give you some advice and training.
Came here for beginner tips and this mans talking about frames.
So, when I started playing Smash (Smash Brawl), I never actually truly mastered the controls, nor shielding, or anything that was mentioned in the video. But now, at the time of ultimate, with this video, I can finally learn all new tips and tricks in the game. Thanks for making this vid.
Yeah man I've been playing for 4 days now. Now that it's been a year later I need some words of encouragement but not lies.
Have you been able to master it?
@@ledfloyd9035 Hey, I've been playing casually since 64 came out (actually a few years after since I was really young then) when I was a wee young lad. I played Melee and mostly just smash attacked a bunch. I did this in Brawl a bit but to a lesser extent. I thought that since I had been playing for a long time, I was at least decent at the game. When 12 year old me decided to try going online to battle someone. I was Kirby and stupidly tried to fight a much more experienced player after telling them I was good. Holy hell was I wrong. I still remembered that they played Falco and chain grabbed me to death on Final Destination for all of one match. I learned that I was not good at all and they mocked me a bit in chat and I got pretty sad and didn't play online again until Ultimate came out.
I did play a bit of Brawl with some IRL friends but they were complete beginners and complained that I was a try hard even though I still sucked. I was always interested in Smash 4, but never got it. After Ultimate came out, I was heavily invested in the Switch and I always loved Smash reveals. The hype for the game won me over and I wasn't disappointed. I even played with a few uni friends after we graduated. I beat World of Light on hard, picked a few mains, and practiced a bit. I watched some Smash guides such as this and played against my uni friends. Eventually, I started incorporating small things, like teching to reduce lag, fast falling a lot more, and working on spacing in general A LOT. I would say I am actually quite decent so far. I probably couldn't hold a torch to pro level play, but I always feel like I've been steadily growing and gaining more experience with this game.
I hope this helps if it isn't too late!
(sees itâs aimed
for beginners)
Me: Sure I have played this game since 64, but maybe there is something new I can learn.
Video: You can aim your shield by using the control stick.
Me: ...I have lived in a lie 0_o
So true same here. i watch allot of tournament smash matches and always hear things like tech and Neutral air and never really get what was going on ;) now i know what all these things stand for and i can understand the techniques better.
Same I've been playing the game since 64, I had no idea half these moves existed.
@@takeit1229 tbh, some of these didn't exist in previous versions, like perfect dodge (and I THINK Perfect Shield?).
@@serge2cool perfect sheild was in smash 4 but not in the ones before smash 4. but in smash 4 executing it was different
Actually, perfect shielding has been in the game since Melee. Ultimate changed how it worked, though.

Also me: *learns how to tech*
I'm pretty much a self taught smash player but, this guide still helped me out. Sometimes just listening to someone talk about something you already know it cements it better.
The Smash 4 videos helped me out in the past. I am really excited to learn as much as I can to prepare me for everything ultimate has to offer.

ur mom gay T Bagging isnât much better than taunting
I'm glad you're continuing to get people into competitive smash
I don't think the playing the game alone teaches you anything as much as these videos do
I think this video should come with Smash Ultimate
because every player should know the basics
Honestly, as a casual player/viewer of Smash (and someone who passed on Smash 4 because WiiU), I can safely say that Smash U teaches you fuck all outside of the very basics. I know there's a bunch of techs and stuff that the game has stashed away in the vaults, but that's a lot of reading, and the last thing anyone wants to do after getting a game is read. At least here we have visuals to demonstrate what proper execution looks like.
I like to read that kind of stuff when i get a game though i do play for a few hours first
Anyone else wish they had a "beginner to pro" sort of tutorial training feature? Where it actually runs you through the basics, and shows you the different stuff you can do without being left to figure it out by yourself? Like, have a tutorial about how to combo which caters to whichever character you select so it actually teaches you the strengths and weaknesses. Have a tutorial on how to edge guard or how to learn to counter in time or how not to dodge directly into an attack on accident cause how should you know what they were going to do? Not to mention, a lot of these tutorial videos use the terminology without explaining what it means or how to do it. They simply just tell you what it's good for, but that doesn't really help when you don't what they mean by stuff like teching and they don't tell you how to do it.
And the deal with frames being so important doesn't help the feelings of frustration that inevitably come with those times where you press the button to do a move that would've saved you, but somehow you still got hit first. Because of that, timing is personally the hardest thing to learn about this game, since your brain attacks with the expectation that the attack will happen as soon as you hit the button and instead you need to learn to account for the delays so you don't do stuff too early or too late
5 years later and I still send these videos to my friends learning the game, they're simply the best guides. Thanks Izaw!
Glad you like them!
I donât think there is a smasher, who is better at learning others than you.
You cover everything!
This is one of the best guides I've ever seen for Smash, period. I'll be watching the upcoming videos for sure!
As someone who has played Ike since Brawl, I can confirm he is very beginner friendly since I was a kid when Brawl came out and was still ok with him! My sister played Meta Knight and cheesed me a lot, but Ike's always been a good starter character.
Two minutes in and I already feel overwhelmed haha
I loved this series in Smash 4
Happy it has returned
For anyone wondering why Palutena is a nice character to learn the fundamentals, that's because she has many stuff that you can practise use on other characters. Windbox with her smash attacks, knowing your distance with your side B, teleportation, easy combos with her down grab and invulnerability frames with her dash attack and her back air
Sandjy Lima : I was going to ask why but I guess that makes sense.
Like Mario and the Pits...a little bit of everything for good fundamentals.

These are the best kinds of tutorials, where every sentence is valuable (no fluff) and nothing is missed. Great job with this video!
Iâve been playing smash with my little brother and he watches combo tutorials so Iâm taking notes on your videos and itâs helping me get better!
I'm surprised that's a begginer video. The amount of knowledge is over 9000... But for real tho that's a lot. That's my first smash game
I've been trying to improve at Smash, I thought I was starting to get decent. Turns out I didn't even know what teching, this term I'd heard thrown around a lot and just assumed was for certain kinds of combo's or recoveries or something, was. Now I've got something new to practice.
Your video is much better than the official guide!
I have played Smash Bros. since N64 days. Your clear and to the point explanation is greatly appreciated!
This was amazingly put together. Clean, beautiful and clear
One thing that I'd like to see you expand on, movement. I feel so sluggish moving, and awkward. Understanding how to move, and what is "bad" and "good" movement would be helpful, as well as how to build simple combos, what you should generally start a combo with, how to follow it up, and what not to follow it up with generally.
Thanks for the amazing guides!
That's answered as character specific. All characters have different follow ups. Ice climbers for example if your in the mood research them as a comparison to other characters.
This is definitely the best teaching video for beginners I've seen so far. Good job!
Thank you for the character recommendations. Itâs nice to have characters that let you focus on the core mechanics of a given game.
I honestly never knew about teching. Thank you so much!

Thank you so much, Izaw! I appreciate it that you take the time to make tutorials on how to play well :D
BEGINNERS! AS A FELLOW BEGINNER, YES, THIS IS A LOT. BUT FUNNY ENOUGH, YOU SEE THIS SAME SITUATION IN PROGRAMMING WHICH IS WHY I GIVE THIS ADVICE: The golden trick is to hop between the guide and matches. Mind that you're EXPECTED not to win. You won't remember everything on any given watch, hell, you won't remember most of it. But when you go between matches and the guide, everytime you watch the guide, you'll go "Oh! That would've been useful here!" and you'll slowly learn to use your kit. From there, it's practicing the controls.
Thank you for making these videos. I've never had the pleasure of playing any smash games prior to this one so I'm completely new and in the dark. These should help quite a bit
