@@trial5750 Let me put it this way, say you play Smash with one fighter. You think that's the fighter you play the most, only to go into the records and see it's someone else.
The subversion of expectations for a potential main, that's what the records will show. Now that's not to say it's the end all be all. A fighter who got the most KOs may not even be accurate to the current character you're feeling good with.
Example, I main the Aegis gals, but my highest KO master is Terry. That shouldn't dictate that Terry should be my main, but it does give me pause to reflect, if I played Terry so much, maybe there's something there for at least being a secondary? Something like that.
This explanation was a lot longer than I thought it'd be XO. Long story short, it gives a vague idea that you can build off of. I hope this makes sense, if not, well I'll do my best to clarify XD

The individual perspective part is especially important, you might grab joker or someone just because they're a top tier, only to later start messing around or something and realize you get way better results with bowser or kirby or someone just because even though they're a worse character they're more synced with your brain and your playstyle. Whatever character you feel flows the most intuitively for you is probably gonna be a better choice than whatever the tier lists recomend.

    • @moodafan123
      @moodafan123 Před rokem +2

its not because they're "synced with your brain and playstyle" its that kirby and bowser are 100x easier characters to play than joker. Joker is top tier but he's also one of, if not thee hardest character to play.

    • @nutmegdoesstuff1339

Some people woulf have a 50x harder time learning joker than they would a character like snake not because of the difficulty of learning the character themself, but rather because one feels more smooth and proper to play. There is a bit of a difference when it comes to how much effort is needed for the same reward, yes, but the factor of how comfortable the character is to you is also a very important aspect.

Is a poor way to phrase it because no one walks around like "ah yes my play style is high iq". You can say more of projectile campy characters rather than high iq. For "Nair God", no one should pick a main bc they like one move. Nair God is not a playstyle. It will be very difficult to win with purely Nair. Nair is an important tool, yes, but not the only necessary one. Also Sephy Nair is not close to Link or Palu, especially since his is a panic option at close range as a get off me tool, compared to the functionality of the other two. I'd say gnw, wolf, Ike, ivysaur, Ness, etc would be better examples of characters that rely more on their nairs. Now, for combo, you listed 2 characters. Peach and Daisy are clones. As someone who plays for fun but likes to compete in friendly matches amongst friends I've tested the whole roster multiple times to see who feels the most fun and natural to play. Of course, how strong I perform with a character from the start also affects my choice but isn't the end-all. Because despite Yoshi being my best initial character, the one I really wanted to succeed with was Dark Pit because of their overall kit. So Yoshi is used more as a secondary for particular kinds of matchups.
In Brawl I actually mained Pit and from the little Smash4 I played I landed best with Yoshi (who I liked playing in Melee). Seriously though, I even tried the Miis and found the Swordfighter to have a similar playstyle to Pit so I actually play them a whole lot too as another Secondary!

It is important to maybe have a more viable character for competitive tourneys but when you don't feel comfortable with those characters I would recommend picking your comfort character. Also losing in any kind of way does not mean you are bad at the character. Ultimate is such a balanced game in my opinion that you can push every char to a high level. But some might take a lot of time and effort for reaching that.
Love to all the soul mains in my region keeping their mains and trying to get them to a point where they are perfect. Very proud of my best friend and greatest rival who isn't changing off the Pit even if he isn't that high ranked.

To think about it, I've been getting good with Luigi, Pyra/Mythra, Mii Gunner, and Sora, tbh. These four characters have been my best out of the 81 characters in the game. However, I'm still debating if whether Sora is really my main, because of the B-Neutral, since a few months ago. To simply put into words, it's usually separated into three categories going in a specific order; Firaga, which allows you to spam the same move with mild rapid fire, Thundaga, which is meant to launch opponents, but hit boxes are highly specific, then Blizzaga, which is meant to freeze opponents at close distances while reducing the opponent's shield.

My friend was always destroying me with Lucina and I hated it so I started to pick up Marth to find out some weaknesses Lucina might have by playing myself. Something I learned myself that is really important is not to try going for a character just because you think their strong. It did not work well for me with Pikachu, I was always at a loss for a while being beaten by my younger siblings. It was then that I decided to move on from the idea of strength and go random. That’s when one in particular called out to me, which I wouldn’t have anticipated: Yoshi. Not only could I navigate with him well, I found I could genuinely just have fun playing him when I wasn’t trying to be competitive. Im trying with cycling between multiple characters, some to practice using different moves and some just cause they seem cool to me. But Yoshi will always be my top main. Just go with what you like, don’t feel pressured to choose a main based on tier lists or anything like that. And it’s fine to have multiple mains, they’ll come to you if you just keep trying :)

I'd still be looking for a main if Sephiroth didn't come into the game. I just fall in love with every character I play because everyone is unique in their own way. Just Sephiroth takes things from multiple characters, and I love the character itself.
    My goals:
#1 Do cool stuff.... but I mean who doesn't.
#2 Teaching friends how to play
    #3 Have some rivals
    #4 It's addicting being the 1 in a 1v2 or 1v3
Explanations for those who want to read a wall of text:
For #2 and #3 - I've always loved teaching people how to play and love to see people improve, it makes me happy to have helped.
One particular player made me want to have a rival. They were a Pikachu main since Smash 64, and I could kick their butt with any character I wanted to use when I first met them. Then as I gave them more tips they got better. After giving them some tips, I picked up Pikachu for 100 matches then fought him and we went rather even, but our gameplay was vastly different because his combos were pretty deadly due to having basically perfect control over his character. I couldn't input well at the time so I had to do what I'm better at with the mental game and just constantly beat him in neutral and keep him in bad situations. Then he started going to tournaments after that. Now he's so good he moves like the top players do, and if I do any slight mistake, he'll deal massive damage or take a stock. Ridley is usually an easy mode character for me, but my Ridley can barely touch his Pikachu. Nowadays the only characters that have a chance against him are Lucario (I'm good at staying alive, Pikachu can struggle to KO sometimes, so high aura often. Also more competitive players tend to lose focus when aura gets involved), Meta Knight (can't be gimped and just similar to Pikachu in a lot of ways, one of my favorite matchups), and Sephiroth (My main that emphasizes my strengths as a player).
For #4 From Melee -> Smash 4 I've always been vastly better than anyone else I played, so I usually toyed with any opponents I would face. Hence why I tried out so many characters so there was a little more challenge. However, when friends wanted to play, we always had a blast pretending I'm sort of final boss as they try to gang up on me. For Glory in Smash 4 didn't help either, because it was usually once a week I would ever find someone on par with my skill level, but when that happens, they'd usually be a bit better (probably because they actually went to tournaments or have a training partner). As much as I hate not being able to swap characters/names in Ultimate, at least matchmaking makes things a lot more balanced than Smash 4, so I'm put up against good people frequently nowadays. So I feel like I'm not that great, I want to improve again so I can become that super boss that nobody can touch once again.
For #1 I have to define what is cool to me, since what maybe cool to one person, may not be cool to someone else. So someplace to start is why I got into competitive smash. I got into it because of Link VS Snake matches between Izaw and Calzorz (Brawl looks so slow nowadays) because there's just chaos everywhere, projectiles cutting off locations for each player, while knowing when to use the projectiles to attack like you're playing chess or something. While I do love having lots of projectiles, I don't need them to feel maximum happiness. Off the top of my head Meta Knight, Ridley, Marth, Roy, Ike, Sheik, Fox are all characters that I love to play (and don't often use Ridley and Fox's projectiles)
List of things I find cool: Lots of options, versatility for different playstyles, At least one satisfyingly strong (preferably flashy) move, Mind games, Feeling/causing "fear", Motion inputs, characters that feel like they show my knowledge of fundamentals, mobility, aerial, easy to use hard to master, character looks cool, nostalgia for the character, character is relatable in some way
Things I'm not a fan of: Armor on too many moves (K. Rool), not letting my opponent play (ex. Mythra, campy Sonic, Ness PK Fire). Basically I like to feel like I'm actually fighting my opponent.
Some characters I strongly look at if Sephiroth wasn't in the game and reasons why:
Pichu - Strong moves, Feel fear because can die at any moment, cause fear because combos are insane along with oppressive speed, very mobile, very hard to master, character too adorable
Lucario - Feels fundamental, Cause/feel fear because high aura, strong attacks from high aura (but only sometimes because low aura, which makes high aura feel more intense than playing characters that are strong 24/7), mobility, aerial, movie nostalgia, relatable because of the movie
Ridley - Scary in general, I love seeing people's gameplay crumble once they get skewered even a single time, multiple strong flashy moves. Plays "fair" most of the time, but not too uncommon to pull a "cheap trick" if the opponent stops paying attention for a moment, nostalgia
Inkling - mobility, projectiles, ink can cause some fear for some players, character is stylish af, nostalgia for the game
Sora - Surprisingly lot of mix up type stuff, aerial, projectiles, feels like the best representation of what smash is all about funnily enough
Wolf - Very fundamental overall (outside of top tier privilege and blaster being a bit strong for the tool it is), Many flashy strong moves, looks cool, nostalgia from assault
Meta Knight - Strong flashy moves, aerial, mobile, dimensional cape is constant source for fear even if it never gets used, character that introduced me to the concept of duels, One of the coolest looking characters in the roster, my meta knight is like universally loved by every player that has ever fought it and I like making people happy since every other character usually gets complained about at some point for one reason or another
Honorable mentions: Sonic, R.O.B., Byleth, Ryu, Ken, Terry, Kazuya, Joker, Snake, Belmonts, Roy, Marth, Hero, Fox, Mii Brawler, Sheik, Greninja, Ike, Pits, Mewtwo, Cloud, Pokemon Trainer, Links, Samuses, Robin, Pac-Man, Incineroar, Ganondorf, Duck Hunt, Wii Fit Trainer, Corrin
As you can tell, I was having a massive character crisis before Sephiroth got in. I'm used to adapting to new playstyles to fit whatever game I play and mastering every gameplay style available. Playing new characters in hopes of discounting them in the future just made me fall in love making character crisis even worse.
Reasons why I love Sephiroth so much:
    - Despite having a ridiculous range with his sword he feels fundamental and like he has to read the opponent constantly to do his thing.
    - Has projectiles that are flashy cause fear and help provide mix ups
    - Quite mobile with his speed and blade/octaslash and OWA,
    - Sephiroth's gameplay felt natural to me and it makes me feel good when it's incredibly rare to see a good Sephiroth despite his popularity
-Lots of his moves are strong and flashy
    - One of the coolest looking characters in Smash
    - I have nostalgia for him. I haven't played FF7 yet and that's on my to-do list, but I've seen the cinematic cutscenes in games and movie, and love watching people fail fighting him in Kingdom Hearts. Growing up I always viewed him being one of the most "badass" characters to exist. Alucard was right there with him. Dunno why I like quiet polite long white haired guys in black outfits that are overpowered and super fast so much. Though I like Sephiroth a little more, he's always smiling and acts how I feel when I've "mastered" a video game, Alucard needs to cheer up a bit.
    - One of the most relatable characters in the roster, but with how simplistic most characters are in the roster, probably not too hard to do.

I have been sticked with Lucas, and i was thinking "i have something with Lucas that i cant change him" its the character i mostly use and i wanted to be like Blucas i wanted to be like him, but now maybe i can get more potencial by using more characters then just one. This was an excellent reflexion of the points to make myself improve

For me it was Zelda and like you said "Your main picks you" she picked me, a couple months later Samus picked me.
So my Main is Samus and Zelda is my secondary, Zelda felt like a stepping stone to Samus but Samus felt like she was rewarding me for learning the Zoner play style.

The best player in the world literally dropped Joker, an objective Top 5 character, for fucking Byleth. Pick who you want tbh. It really doesn't matter at this point in the meta.

He said he never enjoyed playing Joker; he just used Joker to secure the bag. And I don’t know why you say “fucking Byleth”, Byleth obviously isn’t as good as Joker but still has a respectable matchup chart. Also, he plays Mythra-Pyra, who are easier and have a better matchup chart than Joker, so he’s not only relying on Byleth for every matchup.

My goal at the beginning was to be regionally ranked. I knew my main from day 1 so I was lucky, but as I started playing more and competing more, I saw the righting on the wall. If i want to be regionally ranked, I need to develop the ability to come up with gameplans for a lot of characters. This is very, very time consuming. As i played more, i found more things distract me from my main interest (smash) at the time. So, I changed my goal. To be able to intelligently talk about the game with other players that are much more experienced than I am. I have succeeded in that goal and for now I am happy with it. There may come a day when I want to compete more again and grind for a top regional spot but for right now, my ability to talk about literally anything in the game from different perspectives is enough for me. The community will always be there if I want to rekindle my passion for competition. Good luck on anyone's journey to rise the ranks.

I remember when I first played SSBU. I started maining Dr. Mario after I saw someone use him in a one-on-one tourney. I even made myself a good combo for the doctor. Fast forward to present day, I have the blue blur himself as my main, running around at light speed and never giving the opponent a chance to breathe.

When I first played the game back in Brawl, I started playing as Peach because I had only played a Mario game before that and had thought she was cool. However, when I had spotted Zelda, I liked that she wore purple because purple was (and still is) my favorite color. I had never played a Zelda game before that, so I didn't understand that in every game she was a different person. So, until I did some research, I was confused on her (and Link's) design in Ultimate.

Honestly when I started playing smash bros competitively back in smash for 3ds/wiiu I didn't know who I wanted to play, until one of my friends suggested that I watch some of izaws art of videos and the one character that stuck out to me the most was link, mostly because I love the Zelda series but also because its a play style that I was comfortable with, sure link may have been on the lower end of the tire list but that didn't matter to me I just loved playing link and I still play him in ultimate.
Tire list are there to show you who has the easiest time in the game, all that matters is if you have fun playing your character doesn't matter if they are low tire or high tire play who you want to play

As you can tell by my pfp that I am a dedicated Isabelle Main that enjoys playing her since launch. Though, as I continue to grow with her and figuring out how she can be viable in tourney settings, but I do want to play 2 more characters in my arensal: Joker and Terry. I do have some secondaries and pockets, but they are more in the fun factor and not to be taken seriously. For Joker and Terry, I have a bit of history with each character, and it does help me out to play them once in a while and figure out how each of them plays out. For Joker and Terry, I want them to be just as viable as my Isabelle, since she chose me and I didn't chose her, but I feel Joker and Terry grew onto me, but each time I play them, I somewhat fall apart with them. Not that I want to give up on them, but I am hoping I can continue to learn on their metagame and continue to improve on them and hoping I can get the goals achieve with them both. After all, they are my KOF styled team after all

I'm not big on Elite Smash [wifi laggers, gremlins, etc.] So I actually started doing random squad strikes against random lv 9 cpus to vary up my experience. Yes yes, fighting CPUs isn't the same as a real opponent, but it puts me into the position to try and figure out more of the roster, both for my game play and learning what counter play might work.

I know there's a video that's exclusively about choosing a Secondary, but ironically this video helped in realizing who my secondary is XD(don't get me wrong I'll still watch the video, I just found this funny)
Anyhoo, this was a nice video that, while I had my own thoughts on ranking the fighters, did shed light on things I didn't think of before. Soooo thanks :)
P.S. Why I play Smash Bros? Because I love this crazy crossover game and wanna enjoy it. And that holds true, in fact even to my lowest ranked fighters I have a positive view of all of them, All 89. The Minecraft gang has a bunch a set up for moves and Yoshi is too floaty, and lack of a third jump makes me a little uneasy, but I wouldn't trade them for anything. That said I do wanna get better at the game, and there are fighters I wanna get good with, so I play them till I can get better at them. I miiight have gotten sidetracked near the end. Basically I love Smash and love playing casually, but there's always room for bettering myself with a main XD(btw my main are the Aegis gals)

Dr. Mario main here! Doc found me when I was playing World of Light and wanted to try him out to see how this guy actually works (since I had heard he wasn't good). Turns out, he ended up being super comfortable for me to play, with his relatively strong kill options and DSpecial being super fun to use. Tho, I do sometimes end up using Meta Knight/Pit if I want a more reliable recovery since they're also comfortable for me to use easily.

Me and 3 of my close friends all started playing together at the same time so we were figuring out the characters together. My one friend used wii fit trainer as a joke once and we were all in tears by the end of the round because the movements were so funny. He just kept playing her while we all tried to figure out what other characters we liked, and sure enough he’s super good at wii fit trainer now and wins all the time.

Back in Melee, I mained Pikachu, because it was my first Smash Bros. and Pokemon was the only Nintendo franchise I was into at the time. Pikachu's kit was very fun, a mixture of speed and power with the cost of being lightweight. When Pikachu got slower in Brawl like everyone else due to sweeping changes for the pacing of the game, I also started working on Ike and occasionally Zero Suit Samus. In Brawl, Ike ended up being my best character as I began to understand how heavy characters flow. I basically skipped gen 4 since I played the 3ds version and continued playing as Ike, ZSS, and Pikachu. With Ultimate, I bounce around a lot more. I don't play often and have long spurts without booting it up, so I reset back to my lowest play level quite often. As of jumping back in just a couple days ago, I'm working on getting better with ZSS because I'm doing a new-game plus for World of Light and ZSS ended up being faster, more flexible, and more reliable for me than Pikachu. I still struggle sometimes with calculating the landing zone of her down spike and hurtling down to the bottom screen just shy of the platform's edge. I want to try out the new DLC characters sometime, but I didn't do so well with any of them in the wonky setups found in World of Light. I don't really know or understand any of their move-sets, but I think Mythra/Pyra might work for me. Byleth might work out eventually (and I hope they do because I enjoy FE Three Houses), but right now I keep messing up and hitting the wrong buttons because I constantly try to work the same moveset across every character and don't understand the differences between contrasting characters or nuances between similar characters.
