And the stiff neck you get from looking around you. And the number of motors it can take to open a roof. Especially when one shears off, leaving the roof stuck half way up/down. And the perils of rain infiltration. And broken/torn/yellowing rear windows. And the price of a new roof.

Convertibles with the roof down on a hot summer day are unbeatable. It's a whole new driving experience. But also, as convertibles generally have powerful cabin heaters, they are also lovely to drive roof down on a cold, dry winter day. Roof down driving in the summer at night is also an amazing experience. On a cold, wet winter day, they are fine too. The heater (and aircon if fitted) quickly make the cabin a beautifully warm and dry place to be. I'm on my second convertible and drive it all year round. If you can, get a two seater roadster for maximum fun.

Quite simply: The pleasure of driving roof down in a beautiful convertible on a nice day outweighs the sum of all the small drawbacks usually mentioned and is worth every single penny. It's a superior way of enjoying driving unless you plan on taking your car to a track and you can find plenty of performance in convertibles for road use. NOT really... 80's ragtops maybe, but today multi-layer fabric tops are safe, sturdy and super durable. I live in Italy and own a 2009 Audi A4 Cabrio, never had a broblem, still love it and enjoy it everyday. As soon as I can afford to replace it after over 10 years, I will get an A5 Cabrio for sure.

@@MB-xy3vp Not in a noticeable amount. It’s obviously not precisely as quiet as a coupé, but the soundproofing of the soft top is really good. At highway speed limit (130Kmh here in Italy, around 80Mph) you can easily talk with other passengers without raising your voice. The only situation when you can tell the difference with a hard top is when it rains hard, and you can hear a louder tapping

I daily drive the G29 Z4, wind deflector, heated seats, heated steering wheel, new climate tech, tons of diagnostics. A modern convertible is very very capable in the UK, in bad weather too. I would advise however to get a car cover when you're not driving, it's really helped keep it in good condition. Any questions about it please comment

You forgot quite a few important points. Like they get dirty inside, interiors fade and degrade faster, they're hard to see out of with the top up, they are super noisy and almost unusable on the highway, especially when large trucks pass you, the sun burns the top of your head if you don't have a hat, the sun is often in your eyes, they can be cold at night so bring a jacket and make sure you get a convertible with heated seats and even neck warmers if possible, listening to the stereo is completely useless unless you want to annoy the hell out of everyone around you with your shitty rap music, they offer less impact protection and pretty much no privacy, soft tops are prone to vandalism, sometimes they leak, people sometimes feel compelled to make comments to you just because you're sitting at a red light out in the open. I'm sure there are more negatives, but I can't think of any at the moment. They are nice on a warm summer evening though, with the wind blowing through your hair (what's left of it), and they're easy to see out of with the top down. I've owned 3.

Porsche 911 convertible and Boxster experience in Denver, CO, USA: Positives: engine sounds more prominent than coupes (positive with NA 6 cylinder engines), notaby more exciting and refreshing when driving curvy canyon roads and mountain passes than any coupe although not at level of two-wheeled vehicles (Vespa ET-50 through super bikes). Wide open views except windshield A-pillars: Negatives: convertibles that require manual snap-on tonneau covers (you'll tire of that quickly and won't bother > Audi TT first gen, Jaguar XK8, pre-liquid cooled Porsches), potential repairs of the convertible especially if back window is plastic (cheap on a Boxster, less so on 911), bigger blind spot back 3/4 view. Other: Targa, T-Top and Spider-type convertibles where you cannot look back across your own shoulders and have a fully unrestricted view are simply not enough of the convertible experience as you'll still feel more closed in although the rush of air over your head beats any sunroof. Put on your sunscreen 30 minutes before and get a wide brimmed hat unless you want to join the legions of older people with cancerous noses and ears. The Porsche 991 (modern gen) convertible is as beautiful with the top up as the coupe while prior models are not (mine included), and a hard top gives you a much bigger rear view but it doesn't make it a coupe as they can make some noises that a coupe simply would not. The Audi A5/S5 still looks like a well-made suit with the top up, and Mustangs are decent too. The convertible version of the Camaro is the only way to experience that car without it's one major vice (horrible outward visibility for the coupes, style chosen over practicality). As for comments about hair dressers, two guys looking wrong, and the other bs, ignore those jerks who likely don't have companions, nice bodies or stable employment.

    1. 2l tdi 140hp is too slow for that weight ..go with 200hp or more
    2. If you're driving a 4 door car and live in the city 2 doors car a bit annoying cause of the length of them
Though 4 can easily fit in but getting out from the back when the roof is on its a bit challenging..
    3. In the winter there's a bit more condensation on the windshield than expected but climate control car handle it ..just a bit slower than in limousine version
