Would rather get the S23 as:
1. Getting more features and just overall value it being an entry phone.
2. Hate the notch

For me a flagship needs to have 120Hz and triple camera with a telephoto, Samsung offers it, but to add it has a better overall design, more ergonomic and I kind of prefer the overall feel, let alone the up to date processor that the 14 was unfortunately skipped on

S23 is much better phone than iPhone 14 pro. I do understand that the guy is Apple orientated, But to compare S23 with the 2nd rated phone It's simply ridiculous to me.

If anyone's wondering why the galaxy screen is "glitching", it's the adaptive refresh rate in action. Basically, whenever the screen is not in use the phone moves from 120Hz to 1Hz to save battery.
only the ultra goes to 1hz, the base and plus only go from 48-120 hz

I thought for switch to iPhone 14 but ended up with the s23+. The bigger memory for less price, improvement in battery and the camera made the decision easy. As an art historian with a very good eye I really have to wonder about people claiming that iPhone photos are looking more realistic. I actually think the opposite. They have an unnatural contrast. The people are so used to higher contrasts and filters through the use of social media that they aren't more able to see that.

Compared my S23 to My cousins IPhone 14 pro. Realised so much that Samsung (Android) offers at a lower price point. Upgraded from my s10e 4 years old. The camera is impressive. I'm satisfied with the purchase.
what about battery life how much SOT your getting.... i am sure its not tie because iphone 14 gives nearly 10 - 11 hours SOT

I had the same upgrade like you, from s10e. What a difference, crazy. But I have to say, I agree with Dion. Camera of Iphone is better, I compared it to Iphone 13 which my girlfriend has.
How great a difference do you find within the photos on both? I believe both are excellent cameras..
i agree Samsung is better value as its not as expensive as IPhone. Also camera should have gone to S23 with 3rd lens/telephoto lens. Clearer zoom is important to me
Samsung seems to offer more for the same price. I'm not trashing Apple by any means, they make great phones, but the galaxy seems to be a little better here

The biggest drawbacks of the iPhone in 2023 are its 60Hz refresh rate, lack of a fingerprint scanner and telephoto lens, as well as the large notch and unchanged design for the past four years.
I just enabled fingerprint on my S23 after like a week and its blazing fast. I love this phone even more
add to the drawbacks its Bionic processor which carried from the previous generation while the 14 Pro models got the newest and greatest CPU.
This is the first time Apple does this to iPhones released at the same time. I just think regular iPhone 14 customers got left out
@@muhammadqasimit9555 refresh rate has nothing to do with OS. You could compare an iPhone 14 with an Android or a 14 Pro and your almost as smooth argument goes down the drain.
Once you try 120Hz everything lower than that will look choppy
And they are never giving these in nonPro models 🥲
i tried the iphone 14, and i really did not notice a difference between the ios 60 hz and my friends s23 ultras 120 hertz. the telephoto lens and the lack of the zoom ABSOLUTELY sucks tho. fingerprint scanner is inferior to face id, so not much of a drawback. overall this year, the s23 is just the way better phone in terms of value, sad that apple offers basically nothing to the base iphone models. last years lineup was kind of a banger tho, im still rocking the 13 mini.
I switched to iPhone 13 after using Pixels and Galaxies for a long time.
And I feel that the iPhone is stuck in 2017 in terms of features and customization. Plus its walled garden (or even a prison) makes me wanna switch back to Android as quick as possible
Felt the exact same when I tried an iPhone a couple of weeks ago. Stuck in the past in terms of the software experience in general IMO - not to mention the hardware lagging behind with refresh rate and that it doesn't have fingerprint

I, for some reason, gave iphone a chance multiple times and immediately realize every time it can't do anything compared to the pixel. It is so much worse at all sorts of things. That walled garden is also so annoying to deal with. Currently waiting on my S23 to arrive so I can get rid of this I-phone. (Thank goodness people buy them online quickly)

I've been looking at all sorts of comparisons and it's actually really awesome to see how snapdragon and Samsung have easily caught up to Apple in terms of quality and processing in such a short time, excited to see where things go in the next few years

As a recent convert from Samsung to Apple, hopefully this lights a fire under Apple’s ass and they stop half-steppin. Things like 60Hz on an $800 base model phone is wild in 2023.

120 hz, better camera, multitasking, USBC and better battery life. Samsung nailed it with the s23 series.

Hey nice job on the comparison there’s one thing you missed out on and that is the Samsung phone has a physical Sim and so when you travel you can just buy a local Sim at any 7-Eleven or a convenience store and put it in your phone and you’re good to go… with the (US)iPhone 14 not so easy it only has E-sim

I switched to iPhone 13 from S20 last year and I absolutely love it yet. Couldn’t use 120Hz on S20 cos of poor battery life hence 60Hz is not a bummer for me. However I do miss the in-hand feel of S20. Squared edges definitely looks better but isn’t comfortable to hold.

@manojtl28 - I think the vanilla S23 is a way better deal than the iPhone 14 simply because of the feature set that it brings. Apple should really bring in LTPO to the vanilla models this year as 60hz in 14 and 14 plus simply don't make any sense. People who consider iPhone 14 over S23 should ideally go with the 13 to save some money!
But the target audience of the iPhone 14, namely teenagers, would only buy the new phone for the colors. And I'm serious. For all intents and purposes, the iPhone is a children's phone. It's functionality is not much better than a toy.
Im using both Iphone 13 & S23. Both are great in their own environment. Installed dynamic island app in my S23 and it works like charm but seriously using dynamic island as one of the marketing point for Iphone 14 is quite childish.

Im surprised how easy it is to transfer data from iOS to Android. Just using the usb c provided along with s23 and u are good to go. Even whatsapp data can be transferred

great review, but for the performance comparison part feel a bit general, small phone will heat up in long session of gaming or video, maybe next phone review you can try to compare how long/hot will it takes for the performance to throttle, and how well they perform under a warmer temperature

Love how you give Galaxy's there Props they are really great phones. I have the S23 currently and I have had Galaxy S for a decade now.
I've never been a brand loyalist I use what works well. But when you compare these two and what you get for the money, the s23 wins hands down. Apple got lazy on the iPhone 14 plain and simple. Had the older notch, last year's A15 processor, no dynamic island and the 60 hertz refresh rate. The s23 on the other hand has the latest top of the line snapdragon 8 gen 2 chip, 120 hertz refresh rate, brighter screen, improved battery life and way more customization. Simply put, Apple stopped innovating on the iPhones and it's why I end up preferring Samsung and the s23.

except the processor(last years a15 bionic still claps the latest snapdragon chips cheeks in terms of cpu, apple engineering for you) you are right. im finding it hard to justify buying the base iphones at this point, they are just absolutely trash in terms of value.

I think the gap between the Samsung s series phone and apple base series iphone is getting very less every year, both hardware and software waise, and i find it very good for the users who want good phone but not an iPhone, it will reduce the monopoly of one company and give end users more refined options...

Just a thought on 120hz refresh rate. I'm using a OnePlus 8 pro always with 60hz setting because otherwise I can't get over 5h screen on time. If the phone is snappy, it's not so horrible and I don't miss 120hz
You will get more than 7 hour screen on time in s23 with 120htz refresh rate
Dion, would you say that for someone who is not at all involved with the Apple ecosystem (PCs, not Macs), the S23 would then be the better choice? Or would you still lean toward the iPhone 14?

This was really a great comparison.
Both the phones are compatible in size with s23 having 120hz and a small edge. Also s23 has a telephoto lens which helps greatly in portrait images.
Typing from my S23, Design, Size, Display, Camera, Performance amd yes the Battery too...Samsung has finally got it all ✅️ in all the aspects! This was never the case before! Excellent video Dion as always. However after using S23 I was wondering how small your hands are... the regular models are looking their Plus siblings in your hand ✋️😄

Tried the iPhone 14 Pro and Apple watch for a few months but had to switch back to my Pixel. iOS is simply too far behind in areas like everyday use like speed of UI, Keyboard typing prediction speed and accuracy, Photos library, default apps, assistant and overall freedom.

Since 2012, my wife and I have used the different systems. I have been an Apple IOS user and my wife a Samsung Galaxy Android user. The big thing I have noticed is that when the Samsung phones are new, they operate on par with Apple. But as the phones both age, the iPhone definitely moves ahead in performance, battery life and software updates. Even so, we like our specific phones and neither one of us is going to switch.

Had a s20 then decided to “upgrade” to an iphone14 hate it..im in the att store right now switching to my s23

If you have other apple devices(are in the apple ecosystem) you should probably buy an iPhone 14 but if not I think the s23 is a great option

Upgrading from an old iPhone to a new one is as simple as just putting the two phones next to each other and all your info apps passwords etc. Will transferred to the new phone without you having to do anything. You will probably regret changing to android
Man I went from 120 hz display to 60hz because its more smooth on iph 14 and you barely see a difference because of the very good optimizations , got used to it in few days

Have had both iOS and Android. (Older phones, haven’t upgraded) but with these new Apple, Samsung phones you really can’t go wrong with either. I’m not sure what else they could add to these phones to make them better. When their already great phones.

S23 does also have face id it works pretty good too its definitely a step up for samsung
face recognition, it only uses front camera, apple has some extra sensors hence the notch

Hi, yes, I always highly recommend screen protectors. My favorite is Speegan (I worked with them in the past, but not at present)
IOS is too restrict. If you buy the apple ecosystem, good for you, but Android is way superior in flexibility and app customization.

You didn't how ram works on these two devices. Which some cases everyone being tied with task that requires these numbers of ram. For example such as downloads or uploads running on background, heavy multi tasking on device.

The only thing that works in the 14's favor is a marginally better processor that you most likely will never even notice so... 🤷♂️

S23 for me. You can do so much more on it.
Ultimately, he's an Apple guy so he's gonna side with Apple. It's not really possible for him to be objective here and non-biased when, like he said, he has the whole Apple ecosystem i.e Mac book, iPad, airpods, watch etc. But if you do look at this video objectively you can see Samsung clearly offers more overall for the same price. Samsung it is.

Why we have that flickering on S23 but not on the iphone? Should be worry? p.s. obvious choice for me in my country is S23 is way cheaper (even in the preorder) and you get 256GB. If I want iphone 14 I need to pay more here for 128 gb, slower speeds, no type C, 60 Hrz, ugly notch, no finger print, no AOD and more annoying stuff. I hope with iphone 15 they will fix that...until then, IM stick with android and waiting for my green s23 :)
The flickering is only visible on camera and shouldn't be visible to the human eye

@@ArcusCo There is a difference between the frame rate of the camera and the s23. The s23 is running at 120hz if I am not mistaken and the camera is probably running at a slower frame rate than that
The features i missed the most after switching to iPhone are the split screen and multi windows

I have been using s22, s22 ultra and iphone 14 in parallel. Yes in papers samsung offers much more, but trust me, i dont know how but iphone’s optimisation and fluidity is on another level. Their animation is this much fuild that your 60 hz sometimes feel snappier than my 120 hz samsung. And not only apple ecosystem, my airbuds and watch connected faster in iphone than galaxy

@@nishant5655 no i mean yes as a user of android for years, i couldnt transfer the whatsapp data. And yes samsung offers a lot more like object eraser and many thing. Just that animation fluidity, Apple literally kills there
@Radeen Mostafa Animation fluidity has gotten more janky on the IPhone now, compared with Samsung matching it. I've also seen with a few of my mate's phones that it freezes (iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max) quite badly sometimes, which is pretty confusing.

I think being on the same price point for both phones gives s23 an edge as it offers more features which makes it a better deal than the iphone 14

Apple fan boys are still trying to overlook the qualities of the S23 and they can't stand the fact that S23 is now Superior despite having less powerful processor iPhone is powerful but doesn't take full advantage of the power!!!

Samsung been using adaptive screen since s21 era. It goes down to 48hz-120hz depending on usage.
I literally bought both these phones in the last 11 days, new, and I can tell you the iPhone battery is much better . Samsung will last a day , apple 1.5
How do you get 7-8 hours screen in time? Mine comes to about 4 hours...

s23 has an ultrasonic underdisply fingerprint reader. It is faster and secure. Both faceID and fingerprint are secure, but everyone has a personal preference.
The Samsung s23 it’s the beast of a phone , the cameras are just superb. But I would still go for the iPhone because of the software and ecosystem.
I hate to say it but the apple software and ecosystem experience has been quickly declining over the last few years though
@@iMrParker The only thing that I have seen changing is SIRI getting more and more uninformed ( stupid in a way). But the ecosystem is still good. The is no other for me so far.

@@iMrParker I agree with you. Everyone was always saying that iPhone software is so superb... Eventually I gave it a try since I was already owning a MacBook Pro (which I bought for work but now I'm using it for everything). I was disappointed as the experience wasn't that smooth at all. The iPhone operating system didn't seem polished and synchronization with the MacBook was not working correctly sometimes. Also, something a lot of people don't know: if you're outside the USA or other country where Apple maps are not working as good as Google maps and you are willing to use Google maps, then be ready that your iPhone will keep complaining it needs Google maps. You click a link to location in your calendar event - iPhone will complain it needs Apple maps... It's crazy. And it's only one of many issues I noticed while using this phone. I just got tired and returned the phone.
@@iMrParker i have an android but love how my airpods work with my ipad. So I'm kinda more interested in the iphone than the s23 even though I do think s23 offers better value.

@SPIROLONDON, Well my experience with Samsung updates is that i had to put my Note 4 in the bin after an update that make the device overheating and destroy the ram memory forever...since then iphone for ever for me.
Personally, the S23 Ultra is on a league of its own. Unless already invested in the apple ecosystem... the S23 Ultra is what I would recommend to others.

I'm currently using Samsung and wanted to try Iphone. The thing I like about iPhones is that they have a longer life span than android. When I first purchase my A51, it has great photo quality, but years past with system updates, the photo quality is horrible.
The A51 is not a flagship. I don't think you should compare the A51 to the Iphones because they are not phones of the same category. You could compare the S tier to Iphones. I don't know how the S23 camera will age. However, I think the cameras on the S23 are better than Iphones and will keep on being better.
@@MDemonKingshutter lag is horrendous on them even with the camera assistant. Not only videos exist about this but I tried it out in the store myself and the Samsung was still blurry for moving objects. But display is a clear win for S23. Although in my experience with an S21FE each update has made the phone worse and was quite disappointed with Samsung so will definitely go for 14 over S23.

I am still using s9+ and s10+ and the s10+ still works great. Camera quality and battery life is great (I record video for my channel by s10+) According to my experience of three years, I still use one charge for the whole day. Even if the 4k video is shot continuously for an hour, fifty percent remains. Hope to get s23 this year.

Ah, that is called the hand over, where if you have an app open on one device you can automatically use it on another device. A very handy feature especially if you work on two devices. In this particular case I had notes open on one and used it as well on another device
