- Hi all, I recently purchased a pair of ROAM cases back in middle of October and the buying experience was very disappointing. Especially after dropping 1.5K for a pair of boxes.
I had ordered these cases so they could arrive before my trip in November, but only half my items arrived. Sure enough this dragged through the month and had to wait for two additional shipments to get my complete order, which ended up costing me 3 weeks.
3 WEEKS!!! No fall overlanding for Dave, so I pushed back the trip to December now. Will follow up with a review after this trip.
Hey Dave! We just sent over an email to you. We hope to hear back from you soon!
I also have a similar setup. I personally opted for the lower profile 83L Roam cases as opposed to the higher 95L. Mine are mounted using the same brackets from Roam. However, i selected the Rhino-Rack Pioneer Platform. By using this setup, I'm able to get the two Roam cases up top, as well as, my Maxtrax recovery boards.
Very nice! That's a solid setup. The rhino rack system is very adaptable. Almost went for the 83L myself due to their stealthy profile, but I got the 95L to accommodate my jetboil genesis basecamp kit.
I really like your videos so far 👍🏼 Im from Harlingen. I have the same Jeep im surprised I haven’t seen it around but amazing rig! good luck 🤙🏼
Thanks bro! Same Jeep, great minds think alike. 👍🏽 And will be harder to spot me now as I am heading to New Mexico / Colorado for more content. Stay tuned! 🤙🏽
$399 (on the website) for the Roam 95L vs $369 for the Pelican BX90R. Seems the $30 difference is with the gas strut, seems worth it!
You are correct! The gas strut is so worth. Especially since I'm climbing from the side of my Jeep, it makes loading/unloading much more convenient.
following this closely as I too have the same rack and im wanted to do the same thing u have done. i just wish to see what the two looks like installed. i have the full set up with the gobi sun roof insert but man I hope you do an update so I can see the final look and know hows those locks work while driving
Bro good call with the gobi sun roof insert, mounting these cases made me realize I wish I had more basket space. And so far the locks have been working well while driving, even in high speeds. Currently taking notes for a review video, just making sure I really test them out in the field first.
As for the final look, I am planning on doing a walk around tour of my rig so stay tuned for that. In the meantime you can see the current build in my latest video: czcams.com/video/YZwr6O_l8VU/video.html
@Wildin' Dave checked the video and it was exactly what I wanted to see love the footage of the new storage on the gobi rack.
@OverLand Driven Thanks bro! Best wishes on your rig as well. 🤙🏽
Great Video Dave! Just wondering what model of the 95l did you get. I want to order one but looking to order the model you have with the updated gas strut and bracket. 🇨🇦🤙🏾
Woo! Shout out to Canada! 🤙🏽
As for the model of 95L, I'm not sure how to identify that. I assume this may be their latest variant and if you order straight from ROAM, you should get the latest strut.
All I could find was an identifying label on the gas strut itself:
YQ13-36-150/250N
Maybe this can be of help.
Awesome thank you. Keep up the great content. Can’t wait to see your next adventure with the dogos! 🇨🇦🤙🏾
You had issue with the length of your diamond rack but made it work with some overhang what is the length of your rack and how much did the mount overhang? Any issues so far?
So far, there are no issues. Already hit highway speeds and offroad sessions, and they are holding up well. The mount overhang is about 3-4 inches. As for the exact length of the rack and dimension details, I will have to get back to you with those as I am out exploring.
Just received my new 82 liter. My logo doesn’t say adventure co. on it like you have and the hinges are like you have. Is this the new or old left over style.
Ours should be the newer versions. The cases that have the full logo are the previous versions with the obsolete hinges. I validated this by checking ROAM's website. There you can see the cases says adventure co, but also shows the defective gas strut when the case is open.
Great channel.
@@vvitofrank Thanks! 🤙🏽
what are those gray metal brackets that hold the mounts down to the mesh on your gobi rack called and where can I buy them?
nevermind, I saw you post the invoice at the start of the video :) nice setup!
@@tjragsdale3929 Thanks! :) These metal brackets are just clamping plates with bolts. If out of stock, you may be able to find these parts at your local hardware store.
What size nut bold and washers are you using
Not sure on the actual size, but I did uses a 13mm wrench to bolt them on. I bought this hardware from ROAM as well. But I figure some M10 bolts and clamps could work just as fine.
What length bolts did you go with? I have the exact same rack. 😂
Cool! I used ROAM's hardware mount. (link below)

Also, just measured the bolts and they are 3 inches long. This works well if you're clamping where there's a crossbar. If you're just clamping on the diamond pattern, you can use shorter bolts. 🔩
No offence but I’m seeing a lot of solutions for problems that don’t exist 😂 $1300 to mount 2 boxes on a roof? What do you keep in there? Hope it worked out in the end buddy!
None taken, I held off for years getting these myself lol but yeah ended up getting them cause I was going to be living out of my jeep winter 2022 and my two dogs take up the whole back cab of the jeep. One case contains my kitchen setup like stove, skillets, propane tanks etc, while the other holds recovery gear such as yankum ropes, hitches, car jack, tools etc. And they were great for overlanding the great outdoors in Colorado.
I am sure you could 'overland' without having to spend that much $ on these. The more room you have the more junk you will bring and putting all that weight (you know you will want to fill them up and make them even heavier than they already are) that high up is not a good idea. Be prepared to have your MPG take a huge hit.
You are correct. Which is why I showed my first set of cheap cases. They did well for years, but since I started adventuring more seriously this upgrade has been very convenient. Especially the weather proofing since I am now exploring Colorado with snow/blizzards. MPG did drop by 2 though, but given everything I have on the rack, I'm not complaining. And luckily, I don't have to worry much about $ so budgeting is not priority with this build.
Dude taking a trip to a pride parade.
