How to mount a Pelican case to your roof rack without drilling through the base!

  • Hey guys! Here is the simple and cost effective way to mount a hard case to any roof rack without having to damage the case by drilling through the base of it. Mounting this way lets you quickly attach and remove your cases so you don't have to store them on the truck when empty and gives you a really versatile setup you can adapt to any need.
The cases i'm using are Pelican 1600 series ( retail is about $200 but i found 4 used for $40 each on craigslist)
    www.bhphotovideo.com/c/produc...
Roof rack is homemade and also no drill and quick detachable. I should have a video on how to make it soon!
Endless ratchet straps i'm using are 7ft long www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07...
The hardware you will need is 8x "post and screws" i used 2inch long with 10/24 thread. Local cost was $1.89 each
A 1/4inch drill bit was the perfect fit.

Now that I have a welder, I plan to replicate some of your awesome designs! Thank you for sharing all of your awesome ideas!

Really appreciate the share! I've been comparing a number of boxes for my rig, and ultimately wanted to go with Pelican Cargo Cases... that's until I watched this. The Pelican 1605 "Air" provides all the weather-proof features and capacity at 1/2 the weight and 1/2 the cost of their Cargo solution. And your mod makes the tie-down an easy-on-off. Beauty!

Thanks dude, I appreciate what you do! You inspired me to build my own prinsu-like racks for a fraction of the cost and better suited to my needs than if i had bought one for retail price! I love this whole movement of minimalism and custom home-fabrication. It’s not only cost-savings but the immeasurable value of the satisfaction that follows from building things on your own, and to your own specs, and for your own use, without getting caught up in the marketing hypes and price gauging that pervades our junk economy - where we had all been conditioned to participate in either the mass production of junk or mass consumption of junk! You help us all get outta that mindless cycle, while having fun mastering self-sufficiency and outfitting our changing needs. Keep up the good work and sharing your findings!

Also at 6:09, my 2004 Tacoma had the same locking problem, so one day i took the plastic panel apart to diagnose it. It took about 2 hrs just to find out that a small spring about 1cm was missing ( i had to remove the passenger side as well just to see the configuration then figured out what was missing , very tight spaces to work with) I ended replacing with a slight bigger spring than the OEM and it works a lot better now.
