Why doesn't the United States recognise Taiwan as a country?

Let me address this question, as there appears to be a general lack of knowledge about this topic here due to insufficient research into the relevant policy.
Taiwan is the largest island within the Republic of China (ROC). The ROC, also commonly referred to as Taiwan, historically claims to be a continuation of the administrative divisions established under the province of Fujian.
Both the ROC and the People's Republic of China (PRC) share overlapping territorial claims, including the 'nine-dash line'-previously the 'eleven-dash line'-dating back to when the ROC governed mainland China.
There are numerous other arguments supporting the recognition of the ROC as a sovereign state, but these points are among the most significant.
Nixon threw Taiwan under the bus and basically gave China its rise to power with a trade deal.

What is he talking about Taiwan is not part of China history wise?? It always was before the collonial rule eras. After the chinese civil war the losing party fled to Taiwan and kept it occupied. Only 4 Country in the world accept Taiwan as their own nation, not the us, not the eu. Its like Hawaii split from the us and tells them they are on their own now.
