No , it is one of those sappy songs that Peter would never have sung and that ruins a good album like this (same for "Ripples" in ATOTT) of course, the "falsetto" and slender voice of Phil doesn't help...
You can get a Genesis album out at any time in 50 years and still find something that brings wonder, laughter or tears. Amazing talents.

@@CCscott Yes, his is the only name is on the writing credit. Plus, Phil wasn’t writing at that point, and Banks certainly wouldn’t have made the song so guitar oriented.

This is simply a beautiful song. Yes, it seeps into a heavy-handed chorus, but the instrumentals are as touching as they come. If you've ever fallen in love, you feel the sentiment in this song. There's no need for castigation here, just enjoy the sweetness of the sound...

Whilst Genesis are waylaid by COVID, Steve Hackett is mesmerising audiences across the UK with his "Seconds Out" tour. This song isn't on the set list, but "Afterglow" is, and you won't hear a better version live.
Looking forward to Steve Hackett coming to Aus is what keeps me going. I had tickets for December at O2, postponed to April and then October but can't get out of WA anyway so here's to Steve Hackett xx

I first discovered Genesis with the Mama album and then got into Phil's solo stuff, but a great friend turned me on to their older stuff and it was like two different bands. Have always loved Genesis and always will...

This song always makes me cry, and its even sadder for me because most comment sections were this song is featured, people reunite there to talk about their dead significant other and how much they miss them, and even though at 27 i haven't found any significant other, not even close friends, i still feel so much for that, and i kind of fear more being alone after finding love than me being alone my whole life as i am now, i think that just losing my family is more than enough sadness for me.
Besides that, i hope everything works out for Genesis and the people that wanted to go there, hopefully things don't get more complicated than they already are.
btw, i pushed play and as soon as the chorus hit, i started to cry, that's why i can't listen to this one and Snowbound.
Let's hope they recover from Covid soon. Tour dates delayed.

This has a feel of Mike Rutherford's 'Smallcreep's Day, (which was released at the same period I think), and I can also hear also shades of 'Undertow' from 'And then there were Three', also a MR song I believe. Either way it's an unmistakable Genesis ballad... and is just lovely 🙏❤
