It’s estimated that one in four pregnancies in the UK end in loss during pregnancy or birth. The way an employer responds can have an impact on how someone copes, as well as on their longer-term views of their employer. Miscarriage and child loss are deeply personal and profoundly challenging experiences that can significantly impact an individual. For many employees, navigating this most difficult of events while continuing to fulfil their professional responsibilities can be overwhelming. As responsible employers, it is essential to create a supportive workplace environment that acknowledges the emotional toll of miscarriage and child loss and offers compassion and understanding to affected employees.
Following from our successful CIPD Central London event we invited the expert Katy Schnitzler who has dedicated her career and academic research to addressing miscarriage and child loss in the workplace and exploring the ways employers can provide meaningful support to their staff during these distressing times.

Katy Schnitzler is the Founder of MIST Workshops Ltd., a company providing training on pregnancy and baby loss, infertility and childlessness at work. Katy is also an academic, and so her work with organisations is informed by the most current research, notably findings from her PhD. Katy has worked with various organisations to improve practice in these prevalent and significant (yet often overlooked) areas - including global energy companies, universities and The NHS.

Garin is an award-winning Organisation Development and Design consultant with over 18 years’ experience. He has supported leading organisations in London, Asia Pacific, Middle East , India and Sydney in achieving their strategic objectives. Garin is Chair of the #CIPD London Organisation Development, Design, Culture & Transformation Group and Co-Chair of CIPD Central London. In these roles he delivers regular events that support the development of the OD&D and HR profession. Garin is a regular speaker and writer on Organization Development and his first book on Leadership will be published later this year. Garin's is a Chartered Fellow of the CIPD and his qualifications include an MSc in Systemic Leadership and Organisational Development (with distinction) and a BA (Hons) in Business from Northumbria University.
