Steve Hearsum supports and challenges his clients to discover their 'edge and stretch' when aiming for more than just 'better sameness'. Renowned for his ability to create useful discomfort in service of learning, he has been commended for having “a knack of not letting people off the hook, without leaving them feeling like they’re on the hook”.
His primary focus lies in building change capability through:
Leadership practice: Steve believes conventional leadership development often falls short. He works closely with leaders to help them grasp how they present themselves and the impact they wield within their operational context.
Consulting & change practice: Collaborating with both internal and external practitioners, Steve facilitates a deeper understanding of their impact and presence. He also provides group and individual supervision.
Culture: Steve partners with organizations and leaders to delve into their current behaviors, guiding them in enhancing their capabilities to transform their collaborative efforts.
Steve has authored a book addressing the myth of fixability, shedding light on how leaders and organizations inadvertently collaborate with the proponents of quick-fix, Silver Bullet solutions for complex challenges. His book explores the drivers behind the need for certainty, examining the roles of leadership development, business schools & executive education, theorists & theories, thought leaders & gurus, consultancies, and consultants, among other factors.
In addition to his consultancy work, Steve serves on the faculty for the Masters in People & Organisation Development at the University of Chichester, managed by Mayvin, with a focus on the future of organising.
