Road Trip in the Tata Altroz | Only diesel hatchback standing | Talking Cars

- We take the last remaining diesel hatchback in the country on a road trip to Bangalore to see if it still makes sense to buy a diesel car these days. Also we talk about how car manufacturers who didn't take India seriously are now confined to the history books an why sun film ban wasn't a great decision, among other things.

Altroz diesel is such an underrated car, my first experience was with a rental altroz from evm ekm, my beloved figo tdci affected with that infamous injectorophobia just before a planned trip to kuttikkanam, so i took an altroz from evm, it was brand spanking new, odo was 320 something, we covered almost 500km, got 20+ milage most of the time with 5 people onboard, obviously with ac, ride was so good, nobody complained about anything, if i nitpick steering felt bit odd sometimes that's it
I booked diesel Altroz, then cancelled and bought New Brezza.

@@lambogini6804 Hi Bro...i booked altroz diesel xz phase 2 model. cabin noise really irritates you or completely fine??
I think Tata gives best ride / handling balance among current cars sold in India..
Tata provides best mileage in diesel segment and 2nd best mileage in petrol segment.

On 2021 we were at a confusion to take a car. Already had a 2020 bs6 Tiago. Went for Altroz diesel. Now clocked 39000km. Supercool car. Sleek gear shifts than Tiago. We went for 1200 from kannur to Idukki recently and got an average of 20kmpl. Travelled 1200km for just 5500rs by filling from Mahe {84rs}😉.. We won't feel the acceleration. Superb to drive in highway and also hills. Superb stability. We haven't got any major issues other than dpf clog at 10k km. After a clean and update it haven't popped up. Brake pads are about to be finished and factory stock Goodyear tyre has about 5000 km left to do... Car turns 2 this march.
How was the dpf clog rectified?

Altroz is a nice car..Its road presence is also amazing especially from the rear..The safety factor also adds to the advantage as compared to other cars in the segment. The upcoming 120bhp racer edition will be a hoot to drive for sure..

Long awaited road trip episode since the one you have done with the Toyota Crown to Bangalore! It's really refreshing for us petrolheads to hear you guys talk in generic about cars and stuff 🤭 We need more of these kind of podcast type episodes. I usually play these kind of videos which you guys make in my car while driving somewhere 😆
I bought a Vista QJD in 2009. The car ran till 2018 until it was flood hit and rendered not usable anymore. It ran for over 150K kms and was very very very comfortable. Since then, i have always had a Tata in my garage. Hyundai, VW etc came and left, but Tata stayed. Still have a Dicor and a Toyota with me. Both have been absolutely reliable.
Vista quadrajet good car👌
@@yadu2020 sathyam... It was very spacious, built tough and returned 18 to 20 kmpl. I have done Trivandrum - Mumbai twice in that car. There were 3 of us plus my 1 year old daughter. No one had any complaints. The whole journey was very comfortable. I frankly couldn't find a replacement for Vista.
Excellent episode as usual, Talking cars right before a holiday is very enjoyable. I been using diesels for a very long time and the main USP I felt is the minimum amount of gear shifts needed in town and the fuel economy. Only drawback is that Diesels with big turbo lag would struggle on ghat sections.
I upgraded from 2012 model ford Figo diesel to Altroz diesel 6 months ago. Happy with the car. Handling is great, steering although not comparable to first gen figo figos pure and telepathic steering feel , but still fun than competition and some small suvs. Straight line stability is nice and as you said there is some heft to the car, similar to old ford cars. Feels confident at speeds. Happy that you guys did this road trip with the altroz. For some reason the car is underrated in the market.
How about cabin noise? Is it noisy as compared to hyundai CRDI diesel engines?
When you guys are talking, I feels like I am also part of this discussion. 😀
That's the idea behind this channel... We feels included... As in our friend's group discussions , it starts with cars and ends with cars😂😂😂😂😂

Was about to sleep, have a drive from blr to TVM tomorrow morning. Saw the notification, watched the entire video, felt like I was traveling with you guys. Worth it.
Completely agree with every word you say! What to upgrade to from my 2012 Punto Diesel is going to be a problem :)
Only channel never skip a single second 👍🏻
Such random talks comes out as more entertaining conversation. Expecting more such episodes ❤️
Still driving and in loving my 2009 Ford Ikon Diesel 1.4 TDCi ❤️
Everything on point 💯. I own a 2011 Volkswagen polo 1.2 TDI. When I thought of upgrading it I zeroed in on the altroz diesel after a proper test drive. Liked it for it's planted feel, high speed stability, interior space packaging and also the almost flat floor at the rear. When I told my friends about the altroz, almost everyone told me to upgrade to a higher segment. But actually I don't need a bigger car. An upgrade doesn't necessarily have to be a higher segment car. Everybody seems to be worried about sedans as a whole segment being taken over by crossovers but the real sad part is the fact that diesel engines are being axed from hatchbacks one after another. Diesel hatcbacks still make sense.
Please share your experience of altroz diesel like cabine noise, engine refinement, mileage, performance etc. It would be really helpful to me
Have been waiting for such kind of videos for a long time. Finally, u guys made it.
Veruthe Ford Fiesta classic diesel vittu... Was giving 18kmpl mileage in 100 to 110kmph speed. Now duster petrol CVT gives me 11.8kmpl at 90-100kmph but in atmost comfort. Shell petrol charging Rs.117 per litre for normal petrol in bangalore . Previously with Fiesta it took 2500rs (toll extra) to cover 400-450kms, now with duster it has become 4000rs to 45000rs minimum and toll extra. The practicality that diesel offered will surely be missed.
I have seen most of the manufacturers giving CVT only for petrol cars. Why not for diesel?
Long awaited road trip. Enjoyed it. 💙
That was so nice of you guys to take us along on one of your road trips 😀 That back bencher joke 👌😅

as a car enthusiast, each and every episode of ur channel is very interesting 👍👍
Hope you guys had a wonderful journey. I agree with almost everything you said in the video, small diesel cars are almost extinct. Having used a Diesel Tata Zest for a while now, I'm planning to part ways with it to move into an automatic. And since there's no proper diesel automatics in this segment or the next, forcibly moving to petrol. I'll miss driving the diesel engine though 😪
My family owned a Diesal Indica a few years back, and it's was the first car that I learned how to drive. It was a good car at that time.

The reason why the diesel is much more fuel efficient during open throttle is due to it's higher thermal efficiency. The higher compression ratio and greater calorific value of diesel also helps. At higher RPM the turbo spools up allowing much better volumetric efficiency in the combustion chamber. This also results in a high torque output at a much lower rpm which allows strong acceleration without revving your car nuts as in the petrol.
I had a Zen Diesel as my first car it used to return 27-28 kmpl. I remember it used to be cheaper to drive down from tvm to cochin than to travel by an ac train.
The car was great to drive too. A great mile muncher.
Im owning baleno petrol once i was doing a trip from tvm to blr where vehicle was loaded with luggage with 5 people it took around 10 hours to reach blr with 6-7 pitstop and i was trying to keep 100 to 130 kmph in the whole journey still i was getting around 23 kmpl it costed me around 5000 rupees including toll where i stretched upto mysore from blr
That was a cost effective trip only the thing was need to make frequent gear shift to overtake and to keep up the speed
I love diesel vehicles which started after driving my brothers verna 1.5 vgt liked its low end torque and turbo spool easy overtakes back in 2012 and i regreted for not purchasing diesel baleno in 2017 but after experiencing mileage i was getting in petrol baleno i am now happy with the purchase , currently for my daily commute i fill 5L of petrol and it can reach around 90 to 115 kilometers depending upon the traffic but most of the times its above 100 kms
For last 14000 kilometers i havent resetted the trip and the average showing is around 19.7kmpl where i havent done any long trips only the trip i have done is like 3-4 tvm - ernakulam trips under that 14000 kms
You gentlemen are so HONEST... I mean not just in auto-journalism, but seemingly in your personal lives too.. it's refreshing to witness.. it's not too common in the social media space..
I'm glad your media exists on CZcams for me to spend my spare time gaining relevant information.

I'm happy to have and retain the Figo 1.5 Diesel. That is a gem to sip through Chennai traffic and long trip cruise on Tamilnadu Highways. The same is now serving in hilly areas of Kerala where my other Gi10 petrol even struggles to pull up.
I always loved Figo diesel. I was even planning to buy one. Then Ford left. What's your opinion on buying a used Figo/freestyle diesel? Especially regarding servicing and spare parts?

Indica diesel engine boost up indian taxi segment.....
Honestly guys, this video took me back to a "true talking cars" era. Lately the vibe had changed little.. and altroz diesel can set increments for cruise control in the settings.
I got a Petrol Altroz when it got launched. Base model. Thinner tyres so it gives mileage close to 25 when i drive on highways (I make regular trips to Bangalore and back through Tamilnadu). Ride comfort vere level anu. Top speed i tested was 175 kmph. The aerodynamics of the car contributes a lot to the mileage too IMO.
Great video guys. Facts too. Should've got a diesel instead of petrol lol.
More than indica swift made diesels desirable. Another diesel car not mentioned here is the amaze diesel. It is such an gem with diesel cvt combo. On the same route coimbatore to bangalore. I enjoyed the car. Efficiency and performance. It was crazy the cvt never crosses 2000rpm till 120 Something only seen in diesels automatics innova crysta at does 140 @2000 rpm. Once in bangalore smooth automatic at home. The same combination on jazz or city 4th gen would be great. They have the car they have the engine gearbox why don't they use it. Same with tata I expected tata punch to have this engine.

Is it sensible buying a diesel Altros in 2023 basically for day to
day city use and occasional long drives? What's your opinion? Or else go for a 1.2 L Dca
Hi JD, Vivek, Some thoughts on the global vehicle sales..
Like you said India has become the third largest market in the world.. however the no:of vehicles per million population (per capita) is way far lesser in India. It's only 3, 340 whereas its 41,425 in the US. This shows the future growth potential of Indian market wheres other top countries are reaching saturation.
On the other hand if you consider the weighted average price of the cars, in india it's only 13,436 $ where as in Germany it's 41,233 $. This shows the cost sensitivity of Indian market.
This Data clearly supports the argument that the Indian market offers huge growth potential for those smart manufacturers who can offer good vehicles with competitive prices ( innovations and localization). 😀
Can we have a talk on possiblities and limitations of a diesel hybrid system

The major miss of Altroz diesel is that 6-speed gearbox which is offered in Nexon😐
Hope TATA finds a way to incorporate Ford's 1.5 tdci and 1.2Dragon in Altroz which are still being manufactured in the Fords Sanand plant. It would be a great prospect.
