Veterans disability benefits attorney Zack Evans discusses why it is so difficult for veterans to increase a combined rating once they have reached an 80% level.
Zack explains how it is best to bridge the gap to 100% payment status by arguing TDIU or total disability, individual unemployability benefits rather than trying to stack another 10% or 20% on to existing combined ratings.
If you are unable to work due to your service-connected disabilities, you may qualify for total disability based on individual unemployability (TDIU). Contact us to see if you are eligible. Give us a call and receive a free legal consultation.

I’m at 80 but now my shoulder is messed up so I’m being seen for that. I hope this in addition to everything else will reach 100

Yeah but once you hit TDIU you are restricted to not working..100% you can still work full time.

Exactly... You want to be able to get 100% T&P, not 100% TDIU... I was just giving a final combined rating of 80% for the initial claim where I mentioned six disabilities. I was approved on four giving me the 80%. There are still other issues but I'll have to raise them in secondary claims which hopefully can push me up to 100 T&P

If it’s harder to receive 100% with combined ratings then you should be able to receive Social Security also. Am I right?

Veterans can receive SSDI and VA disability benefits at the same time. Here's some more information about that: bit.ly/3pN1TmW

Just because someone is rated 100 percent by the VA doesn’t mean they will automatically get SSDI. Vets with 100 percent get denied for SSA all the time. You can collect both.

Veterans who have been granted TDIU may at some point be awarded a 100% schedular rating, if their conditions worsen. TDIU pays at the same rate as a 100% schedular rating. Here is some more information about the differences between 100% and TDIU: bit.ly/3s6yJAl

I'm at 90, but still have several claims filed. If I went the TDIU route would I still get 100% property tax relief?

Great question! This depends on the state you live in. This can also vary by county. Contact your state's tax office or VA office for more information. This website lists a state-by-state breakdown: www.aarp.org/money/taxes/info-2023/veterans-with-disabilities-state-property-tax-breaks.html

I dont have to work cus I make enough money through retirement checks. I got diagnosed with schizophrenia and wounds from deployment. They also diagnosed me with PTSD. They should put me on a prescription for smoking weed to put up with this stress I go through. I KNOW I DONT DO ANYTHING... I STAY AT HOME PLAYING VIDEO GAMES WHO CARES RIGHT?

How? Pay a lawyer and never miss your C&P's and VA appointments.

If your hire a lawyer, you have to pay him 1/3 of or maybe 50% of any back pay you will have come to you.
