Croatia, Ireland and Ukraine were my by standouts of Semi 1! I have just adored watching Croatia's journey, improving each and every time he sets foot on stage. They took what worked and just gave it upgraded tweaks like the costume. Ireland's Bambie Thug getting the stage they deserve to really give us something atmospheric and witchy. What can be said about Ukraine, epic as usual!
Bambie will be one of those acts that eurofans will remember forever even if it doesn’t win. Legendary.

About Ukraine: my interpretation is that Alyona is a “human being” warrior, she wears armor-shirt under her coat, she stays on the ground. Jerry is a goddess in armor , not entirely mortal human, she climbs up cuz she can do it as a non-human being (probably reference to Olymp?). Anyhow, the goddess is trying to protect the mortal, yet at the end everyone was/is mortal
The girls are allegorically trying (!) to reach souls and hearts by raising their questions about the situation in the country, where both refugees and those remaining in Ukraine have shouldered men’s problems on their fragile shoulders, while our men are defending Ukraine. Many, like the Virgin Mary, buried their sons, many volunteer, like Mother Teresa, to save, save, rescue...
And yes, the sound was a total mess. It was filmed underground and under bombing.

I said this on the official ESC vid but got to mention here too - Standouts for me are Ukraine, Croatia and I can't believe I'm saying it but... Ireland. The song itself is not for me, far from it in fact! Though, the visuals, the creativity, the staging, them are utterly spectacular! Ukraine's staging is absolutely stunning which should not come as a surprise because it's Ukraine, but they continuously, somehow keep getting better! As for Croatia, it's like the almost perfect Dora final but now perfected to suit a bigger stage.
Portugal gave me sooo much chillls, so proud of our Iolandaaa 🇵🇹🇵🇹

Ukraine must be the favorite to win at this point. This is the best song and staging they have had the past two years. They have so many automatic votes. Difficult to beat.
We're kind of sleeping on Ukraine but this are giving me winning vibes. Goosebumps, Goosebumps! I really hope for Portugal. It's stunning!
I think in Croatian performance, on the end, one cat dances as Baby Lasagna and others as two dancecers

Croatia 🇭🇷❤️🇭🇷I really don't know if we will and can win this year, but... The way this boy is building his way from the reserve on Dora to Malmo makes us all proud. He got better and better from performance to performance, diligently worked on his voice, that crazy energy on stage. And always so polite, nice, quiet, smiling... Well done Baby Lasagna. In Malmo, a lot of things have to come together to win, be that as it may, you are already OUR winner.
Ukraine really stood out of others, winning material
Enjoying seeing Croatia, progress every day, polished... Hard work pays off. Complete artist who wrote the song and now bringing it with so much joy and happiness... And odds now saying the same... Slay BL - you deserved it more than anyone else. 😾

22:57 23:05 Agree that wide camera shots undermine Teya Dora’s beautiful song. We need production to do close ups throughout most of the song, connection with the singer is a must in such an emotive and atmospheric song. I understand Teya Dora has asked for close camera cuts, so let’s hope the production improves the camera angles.

Iolanda has a sublime and perfect vocal performance. Portugal has a competent stage presentation at all levels, everything is pure art. Iolanda is a clear finalist and one of the best voices this year.

I just think it’s very hypocritical from EBU’s part to have criticized Ronela in 2022 for her look and choreography for being inappropriate (which it was), but Finland doesn’t seem to be getting the same criticism (or any, at all, from EBU). As far as I’m concerned, their performance got even more inappropriate. So what are, really, the rules?
Probably because women are judged very differently to men. They are allowed to follow a completely different set of rules.
Finland is tasteless but that girl was kind of copulating on stage, don't want to see that
I'm not sure it's the look that was criticized but the choreo itself and the certain movements she did which were inappropriate.
To be fair Ronela’s performance was very sexually suggestive, whereas Finland’s isn’t. He’s just just running around naked as he’s just been born from the egg until he finds his magic denim shorts. When watched on tv or online you won’t be seeing his thong or bum as it will be concealed with smoke, dancers etc. it will just give the illusion of nudity. Those who see it live will see it of course but Finland is straight after Slovenia who is wearing a very “naked” looking bodysuit and her dancers are wearing very small skin coloured outfits to simulate nudity so it will fit right in 😅

This is incredible about Ukraine.💙💛 It's so emotional and I'm crying.💘 But about the flashy background, these are not comets or volcanic sprays, but the sending of bombardment with phosphorus bombs and cluster munitions, which are prohibited by the convention, but are actively used by the Russian army. They are shelling the cities of Ukraine with these prohibited ammunition (there are many videos on CZcams) because they feel their impunity.
I just realised that Ukraine staging colours remind me of Emily de Forest song that won in Malmo 11 years ago. Gold = win.

Here are my comments:
Cyprus: I do not like neither the outfit nor the staging or the colour palette. It makes her almost invisible instead of focusing on her and her dance moves.
Serbia: Here's the thing. I speak her language so I understand what the song is about. But most people won't. So I would have chosen a very visible, purple flower as the center piece and like a flower moment at the end as Ukraine did with the tree in 2016.
Iceland: Super boring, nothing special.
Slovenia: A little bit disappointed to be honest. Veronika Deseniška was drowned. They could have chosen water as the center theme of the staging and could have created something with artificial intelligence. Her coming out of the water as the strong surviver...
Azerbaijan: I do not understand.
Australia: Very underwhelming.

My honest thoughts.
Cyprus - Kinda dissapointed in Silia's dance break, my expectation was WAY TOO HIGH tbh. Still keeping her inside my personal top 10 (and when i say personal i mean of all 37 songs, not just semi)
Serbia - I can a NQ if im being 100% real
Lithuania - Nothing we haven't seen before, it remains just outside my overall top 10
Ireland - Holy Shit...im speachless, this is amazing. I think it will qualify, i think it has a strong chance of top 10 in the final, and i think it might crack into my personal top 20.
Ukraine - Biggest improvement. I am speechless. Outstanding. It gave me winner vibes. This was my 10th favourite song, and now i think it might be 5th.
Poland - dissapointed at first, but the shot of the horse is so impressive. It left me speechless and confused at first, then i realized wtf is going on. Lots of people will have the same thought. I still see it as a NQ but good job. Massive improvement.
Croatia - It was my 6th favourite song of the year coming in. I don't think it will win. They needed more, and unless they are still hiding something, i just really can't see it winning, sorry.
Iceland - The more i listen to this song the more i laugh, just for the memes. NQ, sorry. I FEEL IT COMING...UUUUUUHHH. BEEN HERE BEFORE SOMETHING SOMETHING, IDK.
Slovenia - You know when you like that song, and have that feeling that it will be a NQ when you want it to qualify. Yeahhhh...im getting that vibe.
Finland - Fun, safe Qualifier. And ok song really.
Moldova - massive improvement, will still NQ, next.
Azerbaijan - Could be the shock Qualifier. They have a chance. Huge improvement.
Australia - i like the LED's, thats it. I still think it can qualify, but i dont want it to.
Portugal (my country) - I want this to qualify. (Unlike last year, where i actually didn't want us to qualify cuz i didnt like our song) Anyways, i need us in the final. I really like it. Not really any improvement from the national final but oh well. It's in my top 15, but still barely hanging on.
Luxembourg - SHE GOT RID OF THE BLACK OUTFIT, HURRAYYYYYY. LET'S GO!!! Hopefully it qualifies. I love the LED's they showed in the Tik Tok.
