In my opinion, the televote was a bit of a flipside to the jury vote. In a "normal" year, Hurricane would have received more points from the jury and fewer points from the televote - and end up more or less at the same ranking. A perfect example is Israels Unicorn from last year, which received almost the same points from the jury and the televote, ranking 3rd overall

Didn’t the juries actually already vote for Joost in the grand final? I think he got around 58 points, which was 12th place. And all of that from a pre-recorded performance from the Semi final, rather than a live performance.

Yeah, but it is of course not certain if the jury did go lower, because it was already known that something had happened + the jury had to judge the semi final instead of an jury show.
But either the jury loves to go for more traditional songs, and many fan favorites get low-mid ratings from them

Joost would've impacted Croatia the most, I think. The only reason Switzerland won was that we have 1 clear juries winner and 3 televotes winners /300+ points/. It would've been even more difficult to beat them with 4 televotes winners.

Yes but only 1 point behind France so technically 4th. And if the public had a clear favourite (for example Croatia), Croatia would have won with the power of the people. Not the juries fault if the people have several favourites. There have been winners in the past who were 4th with the juries and first with the televotes, or didn‘t even come first in either of those (Duncan Laurence) and nobody said anything.

I think the low Malta score is because Malta dont have 'allies' in the way that the ex Yugoslav countries are often mutually supportive for example. The girlbop votes will have gone to Austria, Georgia partly for being later in the running order, and therefore more in the memory. Not wholly fair but there you go. Cyprus didn't suffer from going first in semi final one but they have built up a pedigree and following for that kind of content. I actually prefer the Cyprus song as a bit fresher somehow

I already wrote it somewhere, I believe the main reason for low Malta score is that her team who decided to put a dance break without any music in it to the recap. If they put the part where she show her voice it might worked. Song itself was not so good, especially after she showcased how well she actually can sing! This song and that recap didn't do her justice at all.

I don’t agree that the Netherlands would have stolen votes from Switzerland. Maybe stolen votes from another party song such as Croatia. But I doubt it as in the final, staging and vocals matter and it showed BL had undergone vocal training to improve his breathing while singing and that Nemo had mastered breathing while singing and doing acrobatics. Unfortunately, Joost’s singing of the Europapa chorus didn’t do the song justice.

If the voting for Armenia had supposedly come from diaspora, then why didn’t we make the cut in previous years when our songs were quite popular with the Armenians. I don’t think this is anyhow related to the diaspora (including the overall televote results in the finale). I was surprised to see how juries from so many countries went from it (some countries never voted for us before). We received points from almost every single Scandi country. On a different note, I’d rather make a video how Armenia votes. We gave 5 points to Malta btw. I’d say Armenia has an open voting every year (apart from France in recent year when France aligned with Armenia in politics). But we always voted for France. To understand the diaspora vote, we have to analyse data from each country (e.g. the UK always give huge points to Lithuania every year, but no one talks about that).

I think Joost would've impacted the winner in the grand final. Also it would've impacted israel because they were literally next to each other in the running order. I think even though he would've gotten points away from Croatia, he would impact Switzerland too much that it would've been a closer fight with Croatia & Ukraine for the win (maybe around 160s in the televote instead of 220s for Switzerland). It may have also impacted Ukraine... it's near impossible to have 4 countries with 300+ pts, Ukraine was the country closest to being knocked off the 300s and was on the same half as Israel and the Netherlands, so I would imagine they would maybe drop to the 290s. The Netherlands wouldn't have won still but would've made Croatia and Ukraine a better fighting chance against the juries' love for Switzerland.

Even in other types of metal, they often sing about folklore and warfare, not just the biblical devil or witchcraft. If people were aware of this, they might also understand that the biblical theme of the devil belongs to the theme of the genre, it is not meant literally in the sense of worship, it is simply a characteristic of the genre.

Despite being an Armenian myself, I don't like tashi-tushi songs. I despise them and always did, intentionally skipping any type of events I might hear such songs. Yet I liked "Jako" from the very first sound. A huge smile stretched my face the moment I saw her peeking through that doily type of curtain and heard lelei lelei la. What I liked more was the idea of making the feast song even more welcoming by including musical instruments which usually dominate in other cultures, so that many people would feel at home while listening to this.
What I loved even more was the fun, non-propaganda, liberating aspect of the song. We come with the music, we have fun together as one, we don't put ourselves inside walls built by society's expectations, we dance and liberate ourselves for 2 minutes and 30 seconds. That's it. Nothing stressful, not even difficult lyrics for the audience to feel pressured to learn. Armenian folk songs usually contain fewer words but more melismas, ad-libs. Just try "Shalakho" by Varduhi Vardanyan for example. Not even one word, but the rhythm and crescendo are insane.
I don't think we received votes (not much by the way) due to diaspora. Many Armenians, in fact, didn't like this song. I just think this ticked the OG Eurovision box and Zhaklin was very loveable. I don't understand why are people dismissive when it comes to the only non-problematic entry of the year then all of a sudden they feel surprised that we ended up in the Top 10. There was zero reason to not be in the Top 10, I'd say. Now the Greek entry I didn't expect to see out of Top 10. I'm shocked. Still, I'm happy Nemo won. I was rooting for Switzerland from the get-go and voted for them too.

Don't think so. Malta needs to send better songs to get the public in. Although their country is little compared to others, they have the artists to bring a quality performance, but there are no juries in the semis anymore. Switzerland was at the same point a while ago with not qualifying a couple years in a row, but they changed their game recently to became a strong contender. Sweden has been a strong contender for a long time now, especially since introducing their high quality national final. The countries you mentioned do not benefit from diaspora, and therefore have to make even more effort.

I know a lot of fans are upset that Malta didn’t qualify because Sarah did an amazing performance. I agree on her performance, but don’t forget that before rehearsals, most fans had Malta out because of the song. So Malta didn’t qualify because the other songs were just much better. It’s a SONG contest and even though the staging is important, the song is still essential.
Malta needs to start sending better songs and then they will qualify.

I don‘t think so. I think the Netherlands would have taken public votes from Croatia not Switzerland because Switzerland is just a completely different style, while the Netherlands and Croatia are more fun and less serious songs. It would have made it even easier for Switzerland to win.

A lot of the televotes from Croatia would have gone to the Netherlands instead, because both of them are fun songs while Switzerland is a completely different vibe. And since Joost would have finished only mid-table with the juries, it would have weakened Croatia and given Joost a top 5 result maximum.

Their performance was one of the best in SF2. I'm not a fan of betting odds sites influencing voters like that; it's unfair.
