This is our first video essay and retrospective looking back at the decline of NBA Live. It has been going on 5 years since NBA Live 19 was released back in 2018. EA hasn't released any information if or when a new game is coming out at all. Many of us are dying for another company to make an NBA game, EA has the means to compete with NBA 2K. Question is, will NBA Live ever come back? - Hry
I think NBA Live should take the same approach as UFC where they don’t necessarily release one every year but make sure when they have a good game and just release kit, player, game play and other updates
Except the Ufc games get worse with almost every release. The grappling system was always lacking compared to UFC undisputed 3, and with UFC 4 it is the worse its ever been. Striking is clunky, the career is horrible, progression is irritating, EA os ruining UFC games the same way they ruin everything they touch

@Fulu Mukwevho I understand your point, the point I'm trying to make is that I don't think having more development time will make 2k significantly better. They're just as bad as EA, if not worse. They don't listen to their community either. Those extra years in development would most likely be used to further monetize the game, while any gameplay changes would be hit or miss, and EA UFC is exactly why my opinions are such.

Live 18 is easily the best live weve gotten since their return sadly. It actually made me excited for 19. Them turning into 2k adding limitless, statement dunker, and OP nonsense really ruined it for me. 18 had some balance. 19 had none
I think 19 is better ,overall.
I mean, you do have to grind for 99 in 2k, AND they make you pay for it.
I don't think we'll ever see a Live game on the consoles ever again. EA knows it's way cheaper and easier just to go the mobile route. Live 19 was 5 dollars month after the game dropped, if that's not desperation I don't know what it is. I had no plans on copping Live 19 after playing the demo but for 5 dollars why not? Sure enough, I didn't even really play it play it until the Pandemic when I was just bored and annoyed with 2K20. I realized how much of a breath of fresh air Live 19 was. It was simple, fun, straight to the point game.
Like had EA literally could've just repackaged Live 19 and named it 20 and made a few tweaks and had a great fucking game because that's how bad 20-21 were. But no they just completely gave up on it and went Mobile. Oh well.
Agree they're not coming back because nobody will pay $70 for NBA live.
EA had a habit of this stuff. 12 years ago they released the last AAA boxing game ever made, and it was a critical success. Not perfect by any mean, but boxing fans got to watch it grow. Then, they abandoned it to make UFC games that get worse every year and lack a ounce of the passion THQ had when they had the license. Even if EA made a new Fight night or NBA Live, there is a high chance we would be wasting our money on it. They're not any better than 2k, they give subpar full priced experiences that people will flock to because it's all they have to choose from.

One of the problems with NBA live that I noticed was that the builds felt too restricted and you couldn’t pick your position, it just picks for you. I wanted to make SG and PF builds but it wouldn’t let me because of the Archetype system. Not everybody wants to have the same builds and if they make a change they gotta start with that for “The One Mode”. Being able to edit our face, facescan, skin tone, hairstyles, hair length, and tattoos would also help the career mode. This Nba live series still has so much potential and can still compete with 2k on the new gen.

Grew up playing the early nba live and 2k. I purchased nba live 18, 19 day one on release for my Xbox. Played live run 3v3 and 5v5. Currently still playing nba live 19 live run on my Xbox series x. Nba live 19 is my favorite basketball game of all time.
They should and just make it fun again no competing with 2k. Go back to those 2003 2004 vibe
Great video, I still play live 19 but after they went to make a mobile game. I kinda just gave up on them
NBA live needs to steal the code for nba2k16 and just get rid of microtransactions and it would destroy 2k.

There are so many ways that NBA Live could get ahead of NBA 2k, we all know the gameplay and graphics are underwhelming which we can identify it as the main problem. Building a player is a lot cheaper in NBA Live its a good start to add it to the list of good things for that game, also when it comes to getting the rights of the brands and personnel they are waaay ahead of 2k imagine FIFA franchise they have the rights of the different leagues in every country and continuously updating the faces of the players they also have the rights of the FIFA world cup and almost every country. While on the manager mode they have different cut scenes when negotiating or signing a player and a player who is getting released and also an option of the manager to coach a national team that would play through same format on how the teams qualify for FIFA world cup in real life.
Imagine all of that if the NBA Live can do it like FIFA specially for the MyGM/Association mode of NBA Live
- playable games and real players on the NBA Dleague (almost all of the players in 2k are auto generated from the league cause they don't have the rights for that brand/league)
- cut scenes on free agency negotiations such as signings,trades,waives (FIFA has a cutscenes of manager to manager conversations when trading or buying players from another club, this could be used as a cutscene on making trades in NBA)
-answering media (which 2k has but based on FIFA their media interviews are more entertaining than 2k)
- having a chance to coach for a national team (maybe only for USA because unlike FIFA franchise its the whole association for football, and this one should be focused on NBA (Team USA) since the game is not FIBA Live 24, they had an mode of FIBA World Cup during the early years of NBA Live and maybe they could add it to the association mode like the what 2k made on adding DLeague games on MyGM)
-having a chance to play or use specific scouted players in draft combine even though they are auto generated players (concept of youth academy if fifa, the NBA 2k's version is just simulating the combine and just analyzing the results of the combine)
while we don't have fully control on how the games graphics and gameplay will improve the least we can do is suggest, if you notice that this more on a MyGM/Association mode suggestion its because there are also a lot of players like us who loves playing manager modes I barely play online because my country is far from the 2k server the delays are awful when playing a online game. I used the FIFA franchise reference simply because it is also being developed by EA but I know there are separate development teams for each games, but if the other games of EA Sports are on the top of their fields like Madden who tf challenges the madden franchise? NONE! but correct me if am wrong. FIFA? They are outplaying PES eversince. on basketball? they are getting stomped by 2k. my point is if they can beat PES with their FIFA (i have played both and PES Feels like NBA Live and FIFA feels like NBA2k on a football nutshell) I hope they can also find a way to rise again and challenge NBA 2k.
And don't get me started talking about college ball because EA also made a good NCAA basketball game which i prefer than the college hoops of NBA 2k.
Just voicing out my thoughts hope someone would read this hahaha and if you're also a manager mode player/enjoyer who ever reads this i hope you also agree hahaha

All they have to do is make something at least similar to 2k quality (hopefully better, listen to why people hate 2k now etc) and sell a subscription model that works out cheaper than buying 2k every year. They could really go all in and bury 2k for good. I'd consider subbing if it was good enough and didn't have a slimy monetization model. Would make it a little fairer for people who want to grind instead of pay microtranscations since people don't have to worry about the game getting taken off the server after a couple years.
Live is done. They're gonna stay on mobile. Also they know if they do return they wont be able to offer the modes 2k does and will want to monitize alot of aspects. Also Live ultimate team is no where near as good as my team. Remember they dropped out when they only sold like 10k copies. Nobody was buying. If they do return its gotta be free to play.

NBA live 24 will come out why I say dat is ea said not everyone will have a ps5 if they had drop da live 22 but now dat they waited 2 more year 90% of people have ps5 include me so we will see NBA live 24 this year !!!
So why doesn’t EA use that same excuse with the rest of their games? Just make the game for both consoles or do like 2K and make 2 different games.
@@kenjones3205 Its about money EA doesnt utilize resources well nor do they have man power to do it and yes that sounds like an excuse but with resources they're to stubborn and arrogant to do so but manpower /personal they didn't have a big development team

I use to love EA basketball. But yea 2k ran laps around them. And like u said taxing us. I got a ps5 ,but will rather play current gen version on 2k23. That tier shit dum!

*EA Sports need to Drop the NBA LIVE franchise & rebrand and build a brand new game with a brand new next gen engine...with brand new controls....2k took a whole year off when they fucked up WWE 2K20....2k came back with a brand new improved wrestling game rebuilt from the ground up with WWE 2K22 and it stood out very well and the follow up to that game was WWE 2K23 that just release is even better....but my point is EA should just rebuild a brand new basketball game with deep depth that brang players together socially the same way players come together and play call of duty games*
