I was a 2k all the way in the early days and hates madden and that licensing sucked I loved 2k5 but ea has let me down and so has 2k now I refuse to but madden every year and now find myself in the same dilemma across the board

It was live 07 that killed the franchise. Although 2K first outsold live with 2k9, EA really stumbled out of the gates with the 360 and ps3. This gave 2K the opening they desperately needed and they ran with it.
Totally agree. Both Madden and Live were terrible launch games for 360/ps3. The ps2 versions were undeniably still better than the next gen versions until Madden and Live 08. Meanwhile after playing 2k6 on a 360/PS3 it was impossible to go back to the ps2 version. Ironically i believe this happened with the latest generation also. Nothing about Madden(im not gonna even mention Live) for PS4/XBONE made it so much better than its 360/PS3 counterpart besides graphics. While 2k14 was very hard to play on a 360 or PS3 after experiencing it on a next gen system.
That's exactly it. Re watch the 07 e3 presentation for live. It was a completely different game than what we got and it was running on a ps3. Live 07 didn't even end up coming out for the playstation 3. Something wrong happened behind the scenes that year and it put live down the path they have been on since

Live 07 killed it. I brought that bullshit and dumped it after a few plays. Once 2k had KG and Kobe on the covers it was a wrap cuz Live was pure garbage by that time

NBA Live 10 was my last EA based basketball game and it wasn't necessarily a bad product I definitely had my fun on the game. When 2k11 came around it was over for live, the whole Jordan feature on the game produced some of the best memories I've had on a basketball game.

2k was $19 vs live being $50. That was how they really surpassed them. I was in college and we could afford 2k.

In all honesty, it was a REALLY good football game that rivaled and may have possibly been better than Madden. The last one came out before the microtransaction influence, back when 2k actually cared more about the quality of their games

Young Dab-A-Roosa that’s the thing. 2k has been disappointing for the last few years and live still can’t catch up. We’re going into 2019 and live is still years behind along with madden. I guarantee you if madden didn’t license with the NFL madden would be trying to catch up to 2k as well. It’s just a shitty company who sucks at making sports games particularly basketball and football.

ravenjmain you do realize it’s team rating so that means that you get more for assists than actual points
NolMizzle of course, I know how to play team ball. But you get penalized for every single thing that happens. It pushes you to play for teams with superstars because it’s WAY harder to get assist on bland teams that miss easy shots.

I was hooked on 2K when it first came out for Dreamcast. Been a 2K man ever since. I still dabbled with Live tho when they were still good tho but 2K was my shit. I'm still hurt they stopped making Dreamcast

I only bought 1 Live ever since the very first NBA 2K. I bought Madden in both 04 and 05, but I felt NFL 2K was the better game both of these years. Madden didn't even get a decent upgrade from their early 200s game play until like 2010 or some ish. They finally added some new stuff again for the newest one. EA dgaf cause they have no competition for the NFL.

I remember being a kid at gamesquare and seeing that 19.99 price on nfl 2k5 with T.O on cover . That game was the best , boomer with the espn music , you could even customize your own crib . Gameplay was way better than madden , I remember playin madden after 2k and thought it was boring slow and sluggish and gameplay way less enjoyable

I really like how you mentioned that Live has not caught up with making players shots unique. Few weeks ago I purchased NBA Live 19 just to try it out mostly because I heard good and bad. First thing I noticed was how generic the layups and dunks felt. Example: Dwight Howard and John Wall can do the same type of layups and dunks. Normal, Spins and fancy types were all the same animations. That killed the game for me.

I actually like the grind on EA’s “myplayer” now than 2ks. Sure 2k looks more authentic in gameplay, but the grind to 99 a player is too long! Most gamers don’t got time to grind like that. And to get a slight advantage, you got to pay $50 to utilize every attribute. The VC system is greedy on 2k’s part. Super high inflation!
A lot a people forget that EA literally just scrapped the whole live engine after the game Dwight Howard was on the cover. Live is so far behind its crazy.

I always wondered why that didn't happen with NHL or NBA. Ever since EA Madden bought exclusive license with the NFL the game has become trash. It up to the consumer to not purchase madden so we can put them out of business and bring back NFL 2K this is why NBA 2k is successful because more people are buying NBA 2K than EA'S version. We need to put EA Madden out of business by not buying their crap sports games.

@@Denastio11 I'm with you on this. I had both titles at the time and while I loved the visual presentation of nfl 2k I hated the button mapping and movement of the players. Sometimes nostalgia gets in the way of reality. Madden was the better game.

NBA Live 06 is still my favorite basketball game. Sadly after that NBA Live took a turn for the worse. 07 was the start of the downfall.

NFL 2k5 was the best football game I ever played
100! EA very quickly realized this and got the rights from the NFL. NBA Live was a big deal back then, but Madden was (and still is) a HUGE cash cow they couldn't gamble on. The only reason they don't have exclusive rights for the NBA is because the NBA told them they make more money with 2 games.
Player differentiation and legend teams is what did it for me...I remember putting Chamberlain on my team! That was insane!

For me it happened in one year- I bought NBA live 07 and hated it. Months later I saw 2k7 for 20 bucks, bought it, loved it, never went back. 2k makes a beautiful basketball game

Grew up on the Ea bball games like The "Vs" series of games into NBA Showdown to The Live series. For others it may have come about sooner, but to me the 2k11 game is what smashed Live forever. The Jordan Challenges, the my career, the D League integration. I played that game like crazy.
Tbh, all live gotta do to make me interested again is put all all-star weekend features in. Dunk contest, 3-point, etc.
A lesson learned from this is that you shouldn't be complacent just because you're at the top. I basically only play live now but ea messed up big time.

Like the video said Live was expensive and 2k was always 19.99...Well...23 years later, the price definitely ain't the same but hey, still a fan today because of that one experience early in life🤷🏿♂️🤣😂

EA losing in every sports game except madden cuz there is no competition. PES> FIFA and 2K>live. People complain 2K has no improvement but look at madden and fifa, both games don’t have major changes and it’s just minor tweaks and graphics are same.

I remember when the ps3 first came out Gamestop had one with some demos loaded up. One of them being NBA Live, I remember thinking wow looks crazy, then tried it and never went back, the demo was that broken.

2k is great! But i think the motion of the net is kinda weird. Like when you hit a shot the net motion should be fast, but here its slow and looks like it is floating
2k9 I remember buying both and liking 2k more. It was faster pace and had tons of street modes. IRONICALLY they are now making the games slow and more like live did back then.
