DAF XG PLUS. INJECTOR FAILURE when you least expect it!

- This week I've a new daf xg plus that has been recovered in for further diagnostics.
With no external leaks we were really going to have to quickly identify and rectify an injector failure fault to get the customer back on the road.

Доброго времени суток, подписался на Вас и тысячу лайков, очень все доступно и понятно хотя и не знаю английского языка но на видео и так всё подробно показано, красавчик мужик.
We have had to run fuel cleaner through motors before they go out ..I love how they create more issues everytime they do a redesign ...and the common rail is the culprit now
Hey norb sorry for the late reply....I had to go to work today 😅.
We have only just had some fx-10 through. I've not heard its the common rail yet....I will have to ask 😁
@@TRUCKTECHUK The rail is now cast ,and i don't think the got all the sand out ..So i was told by an instructor ...
As an Engine Builder in Daf Trucks N.V , the best engine is the MX13 Euro 5. The Euro 6 is a disaster. Hollow cams , more emission controls and overall a worse engine to its older Euro 5 🤮
@@forkan98 I have been changing camshafts since the XE engine.thay have been an issue since 1996... tolerances in the fuel system are too tight...I have already did a cylinder head on a NGD...Good to hear what people in the factory think ps I preferred euro 2

Hi
Another great video, thanks 👍👍👍
Thanks for the comment lee 👍. Glad you enjoyed the video 😎
Thanks soo much for this video.have learn a lot from it 👍🏿
Thank you for the comment. I'm glad you enjoyed and learnt something from the video 😎
Really enjoyed that diag, you make it look easy.
Sorry for the late comment back buddy! I'm glad you enjoyed the video 😉.
It can be easy when you break it down into basics. Think of it as a "yes and "no" tree of questions.
Interesting, seeing the diagnostic process,, good looking truck aswel
Hey, thanks for the comment 😀. The diagnostic process is very much try not to take stuff off unless necessary then when you have a result, go to town.
The truck is AMAZING, driver comfort and space is paramount. The technology that has gone into this a real step up from 2017 daf
👍all the best mate , great video ,thanks for sharing 👍
Thanks for the comment mate 👍 glad you enjoyed it 😎
Great stuff mate. At least we've had plenty of practice doing similar on LF's in a similar diag path.
Hey Wayno 👋 , I'm glad you enjoyed it 😀 . Same diag, different day, different truck 🚚
Awesome video =) thanks 👍
Thank you for the comment Adam 😀 I'm glad you enjoyed it buddy 😎
Great!
Fx10 also does marvels!
For every 10 xg's that enter the workshop, 6 have problems with injection,4 of them fx10 fixes the car,the other 2 we have to Change the injector.😅
Cheers mate!
Hi thanks for the comment 👌😎. Yes fx-10 is in short supply at the moment I believe paccar have a alternative which is TUNAP if your stuck for it to do a flush.
While I was 'googling' why my XG 530 is in constant need of an injector flush I came across this video. While the new engine is a vast improvement on the last one, from a drivers view, in that they are torque monsters and just keep pulling. However mine needs to go in for it's colonics doing every 6 week inspection. If it's not done then I will almost guarantee that I will struggle to get 2 more weeks before flush required. For this I have never known anything like it. The downtime is unreal. Mine is an early XG registered in May 22 with just over 200k on the clock. Daf seem reluctant to be doing anything to rectify this which is annoying. Keep safe.
Hy thanks for the comment. I take it they have moved you onto the Gen 2 injectors now and applied the new injector software. Have they discussed where you're filling up your vehicle with fuel also?
😂😂great job 🎉🎉🎉
Thanks bro
Thanks for NGD video buddy. I had similar starting issue with defective low pressure fuel pump. Happily the compressor bearing was ok. I like that Wabco don’t integrate the clutch in compressors like Knorr in Man for example. Wish you all the best!
Hey buddy, nice to hear from you! I'm glad you liked the video.
Did you identify that one with your monitoring data for low pressure?
There's nothing worse than a non start, no power steering and having bearings missing in the compressor 😥 you must have been lucky!
@@TRUCKTECHUK I monitored fuel pressure with Davie while cranking, there was a lack of pressures in both circuits.Used to know for mx13 that is working on idle with only 1 high pressure pump. After checking lines from tank, decided to remove low pressure pump. When i turned it by hand it was grinding. Brand new Bosch and truck is back on road. What do you thing about aftermarket parts like Bosch, ZF, Delphi etc.
Mine was off the road for 4 months out of the 2 years I owned it!
Thank you.
Thanks for the comment, and I'm glad you enjoyed it 😀
I'm vary impressed with your work !
Hey Raymond, thank you so much for the kind words 😊 i like to think im helping people 😎
@@TRUCKTECHUK you are, there is not much info for mx engines
@Raymond Romero I'm hoping the books I'm producing about the paccar systems will help alot of people but it takes time. I've 6 components left to draw wiring diagrams for eas-4 and I should have one manual finally finished!
hi, great video, thank goodness i worked on old school diesels in the 70s, cant be dealing with this new system.engines should not conk out with modern tecknology
Hey Pete 👋
I was brought up on Gardener engines, Cummins and old dafs.
Things CERTAINLY have moved on but this is all because of legislation and development to meet those requirements unfortunately......the hardest part of the puzzle is understanding it all 🫣
Nice
Hey buddy, glad you liked it 😊
That was wonderful but mine is a daf 55.170 and I want to learn how to service the system from tank to the nozzle tip
Thnaks for watching. What year is your 55 out of interest?
Very interesting video! I'm *very* surprised that internal leakage on 1 single injector can actually cause the engine to die while driving. Is it wear on the injector or a sudden fail? If it's wear, the engine must have been hard to start for some while, but even then it will keep going once started.
Fixing all this garbage is the reason I left the trade.. At least you seem to know what you are doing.
Ive never missed it for a moment either
Ah I love all this technology and processes doing diagnostics buddy. In just trying to help people who struggle with it 😎
Strange comment, isn't fixing a vehicle a mechanics job? With so many new components on this engine, it's to be expected to have some teething troubles in the beginning. In this case, it's not bad design, but a parts supplier having quality issues in ramping up to series production. In the engines development process, there are no production parts used (hand built or small series prototype parts only), unless they are taken over from the previous design.
Nice video
Did you record earlier any video that could help with fixing my daf xfs 2008 engine limiting power issue warning?thanks
Hey thanks for the comment. We don't work on old euro 5 vehicles Sorry, we never see them 🤷
Never 😮 wow. On xf105 if you get dash message engine derate. It is from fault in the AdBlue system - eas 2. You need diagnostics.
I'm watching this video a second time without realising it🤭 Wouldn't it have been a good idea to do another return flow test after replacing the injector, to see if not any of the other ones is also on its way out? Would be interesting to know what happened to the injector internally.
Hey man, thanks for the comments I will get around to answering them all at some point.
The injectors are being replaced with a ph2 design to reduce the waxing effect in the fuel which causes the the injectors to stick open or closed. We're currently running fuel cleaner through them and getting the drivers to add injector cleaner too. I'd of run another leak-off test if I was allowed but unfortunately, the customer wanted back ASAP.
@@TRUCKTECHUK Great, thanks that's very helpful! Hopefully the rest will be OK after running cleaner through them. With the cost of a single injector I can see Daf people working very hard on getting a solution:) I hope that Daf will allow to replace all of them, without waiting for the truck to fail as this gets customers understandably very angry.
Every single one of our XG's, all less than 6 months old have had to have an injector replaced. DAF are just incapable of making a truck that doesn't have something wrong with it.
We used to use the same process on the scanias but found it could be unreliable if you have more than one injector playing up
Hey, thanks for the comment 😎. I too have been caught out before on the smaller px engine, having 2 injectors get stuck open.....I ended up cutting and welding a old injector pipe to make another blank so I had two on the go.
I think these crank no-start situations are the worst 😕
I'd say, check the return flow a second time after you hit the first bad injector.
Hi. tell me which diagnostic is better for a DAF 106 truck year from 2016-2022
Hi thanks for the comment 👌. The best and only tool for DAF diagnostic DAF DAVIE 4. YOU WILL NEVER BEAT A DEALER TOOL
@@TRUCKTECHUK what year does the diagnosis take. and where can i buy.
DAVIE 4 diagnostic system works on dafs from euro 3 to now. Only available from PACCAR dealers

it has your fault listed. Watch the full video, The bpv is your issue. But you need to check it works right and is clean and free
Just about to do a deal of a new XG530. This video has got me thinking twice. Has Daf done any recall on this problem ? Has their been any changes to the injectors since on newer xgs eg 2023 on ?
John thanks for the comment. I know DAF have a few recalls to address injector issues and I know the injectors have been superceded.
Regardless you will be covered for parts and labour under warranty.
This was the first injector I'd done on the new XG since they launched them last year so believe me when I say we're not putting 6 injectors in every truck every day like some social media posts suggest.
I'd like to think your local dealer will look after you as a valued customer regardless of any issues that might arise with your vehicle 👌
@TRUCK TECH UK downtime and loss of earnings, as well as a pissed off driver, and a pissed off customer is what the dealer doesn't cover ! Parts and labour is a given. The more I'm reading online the more I'm thinkn of not buying. Apparently they all need to be flushed regularly? Is it true the small in tank fuel filter from the previous generation is now done with ?
@@johncreedon7847 completely understand where your coming from, I'd like to think any vehicle in production now would of been fitted with the superceded injectors, I'm sure the sales department can address any worries you might have with sales engineering at DAF.
As for the filter in the tank on the "stack pipe" I'm unaware of any changes to it as it could be so easily blocked DAF wouldn't remove it.
@@TRUCKTECHUK thanks
I'd avoid the xg for a few years ,injectors r not the only problem, this is what happens when a manufacturer refuses to update there product line for 30 years then expects to do it all in 1 go
which truck is the most reliable daf xg 530, the new man tgx 510, scania s520 v8 or renault t520, thank you
Hi, thanks for the comment. 👌
Unfortunately, I don't deal with other products currently so couldn't make the assumption. The only evidence I can contribute to your decision is the XG won International Truck of the Year. I'd like to think they take costs into this auch as reliably.
Possibly consult commercial motor for an opinion on the pros and cons......I think they are all as bad as each other 🫣
@@TRUCKTECHUK What about the tachometer (rpm display), many new dafs, have delay between the display and the realm revs of rpms
Do You diagnose with DAVIE or another diagnose program?

Hey thanks for the comment all I can say is I'm from North Wales Wrexham and I used to work for Motus 😅😅😅😅😅😅😅

Your apprenticeship is just the start. The future is the main dealer if you want to play with the latest gear. As you know Motus is the biggest DAF franchise in the UK, but a wise man once said don't put all your eggs in one basket......so you have a choice of DAF franchises to work for if you're not enjoying it.
I love the product and DAF very much and leaving was a difficult choice 😕
Paccar engine is rather complicated than the original green DAF engine..
You do know that the Paccar is still a Daf engine right? The MX-11 and MX-13 are still 100% designed and manufactured in Eindhoven, at least those that go into the Daf truck.
Wtryskiwacze w Daf XG to wielki problem.
