Let me know what you think of this mic setup versus the previous videos. I know the quality is pretty poor, but it makes my life much easier. The rest of this Let's Play is already recorded, so either way, we're stuck with this, but I'd still like to know.
If I ever decide to do more VR Let's Plays, I'd probably invest in a clip-on mic or something like that.
We understand the logistical problems. We don't mind.
I like this better. Despite the lower sound *quality* the volume levels stay much more consistent for the most part which makes it a LOT easier and more pleasant for me to listen to, rather than going up and down due to your movement and I have to constantly adjust my volume in order to hear you or have you not be too loud or whatever.
I agree with the above comments, your audio is more consistent. Sound quality is a little worse and poppy, but it sounds better at a constant volume.

While the quality is jank, it’s better than scraping your knuckles on the good mic, so I’ll deal with the pops like a decent human/D’nish being

As little kids, my sister and I always called the Mechanical Age "Boom Boom" because of the music. To this day, I can't help but think of it by that name. ;)
Wakisashi. The mid-length Japanese sword is called wakisashi (the dagger-sized one is called a tanto /flex).

I'm SO looking forward to a new Riven. That's a game that cries out for a new version with the same love they've given Myst.
Seeing Riven in VR might be cool, but I can't help but wonder whether the overall quality of the game would go down. The original game sets such a high standard that a remake seems almost certain to be a disappointment. I can't imagine, either, how they will match the quality of the acting.
Gosh when I was a little girl and I played the original game with my Dad, Achenar's secret room really freaked me out because as a kid I just couldn't comprehend why someone would have such an awful room or why they would use those awful devices or how anyone could be that sick/twisted :(
Oh also, on our computer at the time, the "rotation simulator" did not load properly and just kept crashing the game, so we never figured out the sounds and thus never completed the Selenetic Age until years later when I got it running on a newer computer and the simulator actually worked lol
And then we grew up and discovered the real nature of some people. Makes me wish I could go back to that sweet bliss of youth.
You can actually solve the maze without using the rotation simulator -- I did Mechanical last in my VR run a little while ago (and I didn't remember the directions, except that "ding" was north).
Even in a randomised playthrough, the first few cells of the maze only have one direction you can actually go, so if you check the options each time you can figure out which noise is which direction -- the only trick is in first figuring out that the noises imply directions in the first place.

Man, I'm surprised at the issues you had with the elevator. Worst I ever had was the door not 100% closing when I was close.
Both heads in the box are horrific. But this version you can tell it's a "monkey" head and it looks sad 😞 The teeth are awesome though. I like how shiny it is lol. That is a cool detail to add D'ni numbers to the coins
I like to imagine that, while neither Sirrus nor Achenar could even touch the red and blue books, Atrus would give them pages with parts of descriptions of the Ages that they contained... which he would obtain by just ripping them off the respective books. It would only make the traps more effective and, in Atrus' mind, he could see it as a way to quench his sons' curiosity about the Ages in the books, while not having to waste time on writing stuff that isn't an Age. It's a stretch, but it's the only way I see that the pages are around everywhere in their rooms: they themselves took them there, after they were given to them by Atrus. It does feel ironic as well, so there's also that.
Just rewatching this lets play makes me very happy.
Riven VR would also be surreal for me, one of my favorite games of course ;)
At this rate we'll be lucky if flat-screen Starry Expanse ever comes out.

I think it is implied that it is the head of one of them, yes. Though I isn't really outright confirmed IIRC.
The box that it's in looks like a similar style to fit underneath that cutting device, yes.

Dunno if it was asked before, but I recently rewatched your Obduction LP, and was wondering if you would consider redoing it in VR as well? If not, what other games would you consider doing in VR, if any?... If you are willing to tell and not keep them secret as a surprise , of course.

I came here after finding the monkey head in the box and I was just mnnnn nope no way I aint touching that. I am looking up what happens so I'm not so scarred 😭😭 this is my first world and walked into the torture room and my soul left my body 😱😱😭
it sounds almost like the mic you used in the early days of the channel back in your riven let's play. perhaps those glowing gems were originally going to be a clue for a puzzle that never happened.
Looking forward to elevator shenanigans in speedruns.

So your headset is a vive? The graphics in the oculus quest 2 are very different and not anywhere as nice, such a bummer.
A Vive Pro, yes, which means I'm playing the steam version of the game on PC. If you're comparing against the native Quest version, it's understandable the graphics aren't as good, since it's not as powerful as a PC. But I suspect if you play the PC version on the Quest with a link cable (or wireless), it would look the same as mine.

This works a loot better, only bad thing is that the mic quality is obviously not good but I can actually watch this now

If you plan on doing VR for Firmament you should get a good quality lavaliere mic.
