This movie is one of those preteen movies you always forget existed but when mentioned it brings That's so Raven levels of tunnel vision and you remember all of it yet retain none of it at the same time.

Something you failed to mention that always made me laugh pretty hard when Jennifer is"possessed" by PeaMan, and they're starting the end of the world, Jennifer is also in her Homecoming dress. This means, that PeaMan DECIDED to dress for homecoming. Like. "yeah I know I want to take over the world and start the Apocalypse, but I think I'm going to put on some makeup and wear a pretty dress first."

The amount of stereotypes in this movie is hilarious. It's peak early 2000s in so many ways. The scrolls, the generic flute music, the faux kung fu. This is the anti Kung Fu Panda

To be fair, she becomes powerful so fast because she "already knew" these techniques from her past incarnations. She's not being taught all these powers, she's just simply "remembering" them. She still a total Mary Sue but it's not exactly a plothole.
From a kids perspective you don’t even question or see/realize any of the plot holes. This was one of my favorite movies as a kid (around 7) next to other Disney movie like Cadet Kelly.

Anytime I see Brenda Song, I always think she’s playing London from Suite Life and everytime she’s playing a different character, it’s so weird to me. Like in the Social Network. She’s so penciled with London’s dumb, rich, selfish personality to me I can’t see her playing anything else. And she’s the only actor/actress like this to me for some reason 😂
I feel that way about Daniel Redcliffe (Harry Potter's actor) who starred in a different film. But all I can think the entire time was, "Why is Harry Potter doing this?".

i feel that the over-exaggerated moves and flips are a homage to the kung-fu/martial arts movies from the like, 70s-80s. it's a nice touch if it was intentionally done and surprising if not

Once Wendy tells her friend to stop putting snot on her shirt, the friend begins to praise her for everything she is and does. This is similar to "The Beach" episode, when Tai Lee begins to complement Azula and praise her while putting herself and others down.

The production on this actually was heavily related to that of Power Rangers. Disney owned Power Rangers at the time and three of the actors in this movie are from power rangers. The stunts and fight choreo were done by Koichi Sakamoto who, as you guessed, is the fight choreo/stunt director for Power Rangers.
When I remembered this movie I could've sworn Shen was the main character, it says a lot about Wendy as a character.
This and Cadet Kelly were always on so late and I would watch them every time but have to go to bed before they ended. I knew I was grown up the day that I got to see those end credits 💪

Honestly, if I had to choose 2020 Mulan or this, I'd pick Wendy Wu Homecoming Warrior ANY DAY. Mostly because it's just its own thing and not a pathetic attempt to reboot a good movie to "Appeal to Chinese people" when really it's just a cash grab.
Plus, it won points for appealing to my younger self's love for power rangers. Wendy may not have been a good character but I'll always have a special place in my heart for this movie.

I remember when this movie came out, I lost my shit. As an Asian American, it felt like all I had was Mulan, and this movie. When I rewatched it when I was older, I realised it wasn't as good as I remembered (obviously), but I will fight anybody about this movie purely for how valuable the representation was to me as a kid.

About the whole "The fight scenes are like Power Rangers!" that makes complete sense because Disney owned Power Rangers at the time and one of Wendy's friends are played by the same actress as the blue ranger in Power Rangers: Ninja Storm

As a Chinese kid I actually enjoyed this movie like genuinely. because not only was it fun seeing things that I do in my culture being brought up in a movie its nice to be represented on such a big channel like Disney (there wasn’t much then other than American dragon, or some Cartoon Network shows)
