Hi! The scene in the ghost train is a wink to the writer of the book, director of the movie and finally voice actor of Jack, Mathias Malzieu who has a band called Dionysos. It the french version of the greek god's name and "os" is "bone" in french so the skeletons are a play on words. Also it was one of my favourites growing up (I didn't watch the dvd that many times but I know the somgs by heart). I am surprised that the songs are well translated and sung in the english version. Even if it cannot compare to the original french ;)

As a mexican, The Book of Life is truely a piece of art, but it feels somehow like a película gringa (American movie) (weird because Jorge R. Gutiérrez and Guillermo Del Toro participated a lot to make this movie). I mean, it mixes things from diferent cultures (Xibalba is the mayan land of the dead, not a deity), the bullfights are a Spain thing (aztecs or mexicas never had bulls until the europeans arrived), the Candle Maker is a completely new concept along with the Book of Life. And i’m sorry, but the covers broke completely my immersion into the movie (all of the characters are talking in spanish and out of nowhere they start singing in english (and if they dubbed the songs it would be even worst). The Book of Life serves more like a charming and creative movie, but loooooooooosely based on Día de Los Muertos. Coco feels more true to the culture and the meaning of Día de Muertos to the point where here in México a lot of people prefers it over The Book of Life.

I remember watching this a lot when i was younger, about 8 i wanna say. But i still love this movie. Its weird but i like it.

The way I saw the end, was that Jack had more than one dangerous love in his life. Romantic love: Miss Acacia and Familial love: Madeline. He was heart broken by Acacia and then finds out that his mother, who he loves dearly, has also passed. So even though Acacia came back for him it was still too late because of the love rule. Except it wasn’t Acacia that made that rule come to fruition, it was Madeline herself. The one who gave the rules in the first place. That’s how I saw it at least. It’s also a bittersweet irony. The love that killed him was the love from the women who raised him and warned him to be careful of love in the first place. The same love that killed her as well if we’re going with the died from a broken heart thing.

Every 5th of May and Halloween I watch Book of Life and love it 😍

Fun fact: Even though Pinocchio: A True Story is by Lionsgate, the original Russian version is by Sony Pictures.

this is a very ******* weird movie but I've actually watched it several times some parts make me cringe and laugh but it's not bad tbh in fact dare I say I love this movie??? it must mean something if it's made me cry and made me watch it like 10 times lol I'm happy you didn't hate it even if it's weird

Yes its everything you've described EXCEPT you kinda glossed over Charlie's character development and redemption. Charlie went from using Annemarie to actually loving her. That's why he felt guilt over the things he said about not caring about her. And why he sacrificed himself at the end to save her. Her life became more important than his. You act like Charlie only saved Annemarie because the movie is "rated PG", thats way too much of a reach pal. Throughout the film even while Charlie and Itchy are acting like a**holes, we're shown moments where they do care for the little girl. Buying her new clothes (which we only see once), feeding and giving her a roof over her head. Not to mention entertaining her. As Charlie slowly gets to know Annemarie their bond grows beyond his secret business agenda. But I digress like you said the film is dark and depressing but it has hope and a warmth to it.

i don't think jax is meant to be the "guh, i don't give a damn about u people even though it's an open secret that i do, buhh," i think he's an out right psyco and just an as***le, but other than that, i think the rest of what you said still applies lol now i can see why people think this is a horror story or like a creepy pasta-like thing but i don't think the show is aiming for that at all. i think is going to be a story of how characters deal with the tragedy of their situation until they either die or get out of there. there are elements of mystery and what not but is going to focus on character development and the back story behind them

As a child this movie didn’t seem weird at all….apart from the alligator song, still thought it was fun just odd. But I’ve always loved this movie. And I always thought the pups were his and he had the cheek to call feeding his own kids “charity”! what a dog

Honestly, there are stuff that they picked from the original series to display in the movie (like piccolo's ship, his capability of creating monster, although organic, not rock-based, and some weird powers like telekinesis and shapeshifting (oolong?)) but the final product is so detached from the series that is legit weird seeing most of this in the movie.

This was the first movie, where I asked how long there was until it ended. And I was the one that wanted to see it in the first place :/

I remember watching this movie when it first came out and thinking how much I loved it the music in the movie is really great to the point I wish they had the soundtrack out there were a lot of bangers in that movie.
