Bologna is basically an exercise paradise we're there is a lot of walking involved, especially visiting the towers with so many stairs. The last part, which is the first university in Europe, seems to be the best place to look at artefacts, documents, and archives of historical importance. The churches around Bologna are beautiful as well and well maintained. I love this content and well-informed as well.
It's a great video to list out all things to do in Bologna, Christine👌🏻😊 It's so useful. Loveeee the architecture inside the church 😍
This seems to be a very charming place, I hope I can visit sometime in the future when all this is over. Seeing and sharing places like this is why I love traveling and make videos so much!
It a good place to stop when traveling between Florence and Venice. Right on the train line.
Exactly!
Its not only "a good place to stop" its a city with a lot of history and artística value. It has the most ancient univerity in Europe, a well preserved historical centre and multiple monuments. So it deserves a visit by itself and also the region of Emilia Romagna with places like Módena or Rávena. Italy isnt only Rome, Florence and Venice. Theres no need to simplified things like that.
Bologna is one of the food capitals of the world! I can’t believe you had the “fast food” 🤣 nonetheless great video. It’s my hometown ❤️
Haha. Right?!
I blog/Vlog the Bologna slow foods in a different video and blog post as food is a huge must here. But on a solo travel level- it was a little challenging to find a cafe that i could feel comfortable being a table of one. 😂
esatto
The last time I was in Italy I was a kid. I have happy memories of Florence, Rome, and a nice little beach town I can't remember the name. My first cupaccino was in Italy, before the hipster gourmet coffee boom hit in the 90s.
Hey! Great video!! I live in this wonderful city, i am really happy that tourists also consider visiting this city, even if there are others fantastic cities!
Dear Christine,
Thanks for dedicating a video to our Bologna!
As a Bolognese living abroad, it's even more beautiful to see it!
Ciao 😀, Luca
Thank you for this, I am even more exctied to visit Bologna now, although it was on my bucket list!! Great video!!
Oh and I feel like I just scratched the surface too.
Hands down, the best travel video I've seen! I'll be there next week, and now I'll be much better prepared!
Very useful video!
How fortunate that I found this )
Beautiful video! I was in Italy about twenty years ago but further north. In a place called Ferrara and stayed at a place called Castiliano del Lago. It was fantastic! I didn’t want to go back to Hawaii.
Amazing place.. love it ❤❤
Just wanna say how much I love your videos, loved your Rome and the fabulous apartment overlookig the Trevi Fountain. I am planning a trip for October 2021, so I will continue to watch your video and work on an itinarary for my trip!! Thank you for your informative videos!!
Awww you’re so welcome! Loved Italy. Didn’t want to fall in love but I did.
Thank you so much for creating and posting this. I've watched LOTS of videos on travel to Bologna, and this is the best one for me for sure. I appreciate that you include things like the Pam store to pick up quick necessities and information about where to find bathrooms - all those little (or not so little) deatils - as well as the big things like the towers and San Luca (for which I'm glad you also mentione the train - despite one commenter's claim that "the whole point is the hike itself," it sure is nice for people who might be dealing with health problems or have limited time to know there is an alternative!). I also appreciate knowing about the welcome center and the welcome ticket, which I hadn't heard about before. I know Bologna is the food capital of Italy, but that's not what I'm there for during my upcoming travels, so I also appreciate you showing the faster food. I'll be in Bologna in 2 weeks, and your video has helped me with my planning more than any other. Thank you!
I’m so glad you found it helpful. Enjoy Bologna !
And yes, that hike is very very long with an uphill climb, …which is why there’s a toy train, which is a fun and loved attraction too!
I think I lost track of how many times I said "wow"...such a beautiful city!! The pass looks like a good deal. It's nice to hear about these money savers.
Right? Totally unexpected beauty.
Yah I think it’s a good deal especially if it’s good for a year! 😉
Good video. Was helpful for planning my trip next week
Always love your videos and personality! You inspire me to keep making videos too!
That gnocchi is amazing they also do one in a bread/chip type basket ,try that if you ever go back as when you finish your bowl is now a bread/chip covered in the sauce
Thanks for the tip! Sounds amazing
love this video! Felt very honest and real, like how a lot of my trips feel (dashing about, food decisions, etc.). Thanks for making it!
Glad you enjoyed it! ❤️
Wow thank you for making this video Is very detailed i’m more exited about my trip now
I’m so glad. Highly worthwhile city- and I’m sure I just scratched the surface.
Perfect!!
Right next to that statue of Neptune in Piazza Maggiore there is what from the outside looks like any random library entrance. Soon as you enter it opens to beautiful views of 3 levels of books, shops, cafe etc… after an hour plus of exploring to the top you finally realize when you look down to the first floor where you started you realize 1st floor was glass & you realize you were walking above an excavation of ruins. In 2007 there were people visibly working so not sure what it looked like when this vid was made but it was a wow moment
😳😳😳 I missed that.
Thanks for great video :))
Thanks! Pretty amazing!!
So excited im visiting for 4 days in April akd cant wait it will be my first time in Italy.
Enjoy!!!
My favourite Italian town. Even though I was there last December, I'm missing it already...
Thanks for sharing!
Thanks Christine for good coverage of Bologna 👏👌😀
You’re welcome!
Thankyou, I’m pumped to go!..........eventually
Did you go to the zoological museum? Have you looked on Atlas Obscura?
Great city of Bologna nice to travel very historical interisting
It really is!
being following your video and their very informative and feast for your eyes.
Thank you John 🤗
I went up the tower with my cousin, a while ago, it was quite enjoyable, great views, when we got down again a young couple were heading up, they asked how it was, great we said, then I added feigning a bit of concern, " there is some movement in the stairs though, but if you stay close to the wall you will be alright". The couple looked at each other, worried, I thought I had better set their minds at ease, " no just kidding its all fine" they were quite relieved.
I suggest eating in places in which locals eat, you ate in some recently opened "fast-food" places, which are basically done for tourists. The food might be okay, decent quality, but it has nothing to do with a real local restaurant or osteria (those gnocchi in a paper-glass are hardly tolerable for an Italian) :P
That is a great video, you made it so interesting. I'm going to Bologna in March 2024
Glad it was helpful! Have fun!
A UK couple swear that Bologna is the perfect launching point for touring northern Italy. They take day trips ever day from the train station in Bologna to explore nearby cities. I might apply this strategy as well.
Yes Bologna was a good launch point for the Emilia Romagna cities + San Marino I visited.
It is called a STAR strategy and it is my favorite and recommended method of sight seeing.
You get to explore the main city during the evening hours while during the day you travel an hour to neighboring attractions like parks, castles, palaces and even the beach.
You save on time because you do not unpack and repack all your stuff and on money since hotels/hostels offer better prices on long stays.
UK and France citizens I believe would be the ones that would love Bologna the most - I do not know why. There are many things that are palatable to their minds in that city.
I have a trip planned next month, starting in Milan, then Bologna, then Verona/Garda. The high speed trains are what makes it possible.
We want to travel to Bologna as well this year, so thanks for this fantastic video!
Have fun!
Great video
Wow climbing the steps and filming #Respect lol
I’m going there next month thank you
Bologna video Amazing .💯💖👍
Thank you for all your comments on my videos 🧡🧡🧡
Hi Christine,
Thank you very much for this video. Next month we (me and my girlfriend) are visiting Bologna for a few days. This video was very helpful. Greetings from the Netherlands
Enjoy and glad it was helpful!
I'm heading there in June thank you so much!
Enjoy! So much to explore.
This place is beautiful!! I've had that problem with Google Maps while in Barcelona, in the end, we just had to ignore it!
Yes very beautiful place. Amazing
Georgie Minter-Brown we’ve had the here in Thailand
yes wow Italy is for me if I ever get anyone to feed all these cats I take care of!
nice sister.... from Bangladesh
I think it should be 'Metropolitan Cathedral of Saint Peter' (in Via Indipendenza, the main shopping street), not of Maria della Vita (in Via Clavature, near the fish market).
Hi thank you for this video, did you sim your phone while in Italy?
Yep. I *might’ve* shown that in Ravenna video. Can’t remember.
I live in Bologna, a very beautiful and expensive city
I've never been there but it looks boring and archaic. I prefer more modern looking cities. Does it have any modern city in italy ?
You should go in abruzzo. Go in villa celiera and eat arrosticini. After you'll know the happyness.
Great recommendation !
It was great Christine!!!
the church in 7:50 isn't Madonna della vita but San Pietro's Cathedral. Beautiful video..bye bye
Christine is awesome
Thank you- 👑
😂
generally, restaurants have daily menu or lunch menus, which narrowed down the choices a bit, and cheaper too compare to regular menu :) Menu Fisso they call it :))
Good to know - thanks for sharing 😃
@@grrrltraveler Christine do you travel to Poland ?

Great video, and well edited. I have a question. Me and my wife are coming to Italy this September. Do you have to reserve most hotels before you leave? Or can you just book at the last minute as you wish? Thanks, Vic
Sept is peak season. If there's a big festival or conference around your time or your hotel is popular or small or you need to be in/out on a specific date, book ahead, especially around weekends. If your schedule is flexible and you have time to scramble- wing it.
@@grrrltraveler thanks for taking the time to answer!
Amazing sights and loved the way you captured the city. I’m not sure why but catching a glimpse of that Mickey in the opening made me sad. I don’t care for them In Manhattan and seeing one in your video just seemed so out of place. I assume they were offering photos for a fee there as well.
I get it. As an American, seeing Mickey always makes one feel like an experience is highly commodified and Epcot center. The Mickey is out of place in this landscape and even culture which makes it even sadder. But Bologna is actually not touristed as much.
I actually make this point in a following video though I prob should’ve made it here.
Hi, I wanted to ask you how should I do to learn English through movies, TV series and songs, what methods should I apply, how should I approach these tools and how can I put them into practice? Ditto for books/audiobooks/podcasts and videos on youtube, where should I start if I'm at zero??? Nb: I'm a 20-year-old boy and I haven't decided which path to take yet but at the moment I'm more oriented towards languages and I would also like to go and live in England
Ei I'm from Bologna and it seems to me that you have mistaken Santa Maria della vita with our Cathedral in Via Indipendenza
I think you’re right Thank you for your correction. 🙏
@@grrrltraveler you are welcome!! Hope you had a good time here! If you are still here or you think of coming back I suggest you San Michele in Bosco, San Petronio and via d'azeglio for the shops!!!
Hi Christine! Do you have any recommendations on good areas to stay
Bologna tips 👉blog links in description box. 😉
take a drink every time she says "balon EE ya"
You missed the first video where I called it Ba- LOG-nah. 🤦♀️
I will be there in August 2022
Google Maps has a walking mode!
you were the only english person, true.
Did you climb the first tower twice?in some shots your hair is loose and others tied back, anyway excellent video as usual
I was probably trying to look nice on camera and then discovered it doesn’t work with sweat. 😂
@@grrrltraveler you look good sweat or no sweat
GRRRLTRAVELER | Christine Kaaloa lol my girlfriend does the same 😂
7,35 è Cattedrale di San Pietro, non Santa Maria della Vita.
Nice vídeo! But having a sandwich and pasta fast food in Italy is a crime!!!
👍👍🇳🇵
Great video, thanks for the tips x we’ve just started our travels around Asia, if you want to check them out! X
Cool! I'll check it out.
I walked up to San Luca when I was there... so many calories burnt!
Yes!!!!🙌🏽
Snack from a market in Bologna? Are you real?! 😂
I really want to climb the tower but I don't think my vertigo will let me :(
I think the oldest University in the world is in Fes (Morokko) not in Bologna. That is the oldest in Europe.
the university of morocco as well as that of cairo also founded before the bolognese university were born as theological schools and only later recognized universities as we recognize them today. Parma also tried in 800 but it was only a school for notaries.
Nothing more american than riding up to the sanctuary in a car when the whole point is the hike itself

Where do we find this : Bologna welcome + card?
It's this a phone app, or you can find this "card" to BUY in the shop? 😨
Look for Bologna-Welcome office/website

I think Google maps was routing you the long way on the main roads because you didn't tell it you were walking
Maybe! 😂
Elevators were invented 750+ years after the construction of the towers, so I think this is the reason why they didn’t build with them inside
Ok, one thing, why did you feel the need to film on camera thing's you are eating. We have seen tomatoes and bread before 😎
It’s not “Bolonia”, but “Bologna”!
The "gn" sound is foreign to non Italians and non Spanish speakers. Have a bit of kindness please
Would love to watch but your recording is so low in volume even with my computer at 100% I can not hear you
Maybe check your volume or to see your computer speakers work. Sound is fine on my end. In fact, I am playing at 90% volume :)
@@alyssab5508 Thanks went through all options it seems some CZcams are posting at low volume. Not just yours. I'll catch you on my phone, volume works fine. Computer works fine on all other options. Thanks
@lori sims Sorry you’re experiencing that on your end. My audio export is the recommended and equalized - its got my editor’s set of ears on it too. I’ve also watched it on 3 computers- mc/pc on diff browsers. It is not on our end.
In fact I usually get claims I’m too loud.
CZcams can play audio loud - so I often turn down my vol to 90% too @alyssa B. Esp when I’m watching in public. 🤫

Ever heard of Italian music?? Why am I listening to American music?
Creative choice. American first time looking Bologna. Also my music library did not have any free Italian music choices. We work with what we have- the cost of film and editing is already a large expense.
porco dio
Same generic video blog music blah blah
The Main Streets are probably far safer than the Alleyways, Especially if you’re a woman, so unless you’re gonna sprint through them like a Crazy Woman, the Main Streets are probably your Safest Option

I hate Bologna already
NUMBER 1: LEAVE!
I must say, I don’t like this video because it is focused on your face most of the time, and I really would rather the camera were aimed at Bologna while you talked about it.
There are many vloggers who don't like to show their face at all. I recommend you find them.
