  • Bologna is often touted to be the food capital of Italy. But we found Modena, Bologna's lesser known and smaller neighbor, to be the real food capital. After all, the world's best restaurant (Osteria Francescana) and the world's best chef (Massimo Bottura) are based in Modena, and this is where tortellini were invented and where parmesan cheese and aceto balsamico are carefully curated.
Modena is a small, charming and tranquil city in the heart of Italy's Emilia-Romagna region. We recently spent a month living here - exploring, discovering and indulging in the irresistible local cuisine.
We visited a local dairy to see how parmesan cheese is made, we learned how to make tortellini from scratch AND we discovered a surprising tradition around Modena’s liquid gold “aceto balsamico” . We also found a new favorite snack, the gnocco fritto.
Guided tour of parmesan cheese making at 4Maddone: www.caseificio4madonne.it/en/...
Guided tour and tasting of balsamic vinegar at Acetaia Giusti:

So come along and let us show you around Modena’s delectable food scene.

Nice video. I mainly take opera trips to Italy and scope out interesting foods and sights in between shows. Two greatest opera singers were from Modena -- Luciano Pavarotti and Mirella Freni. In fact the beautiful Modena Teatro Communale was renamed after Pavarotti.
To avoid tourist crowds and see real Italy, I recommend visiting the 'P' cities -- Pisa, Piacenza, Perugia, Parma, Padua, Pavia, Pordenone, etc. Caveat -- Do Not order cappuccino after 11:00am.
Last but not least, I'm glad to see many new quality Asian restaurants in Italy in recent years, even in a small town like Modena there are several good ristoranti Cinese! Because as much as I love Italian food, like most Americans I crave variety especially if I'm staying a month or longer😋

My wife and I really enjoy and appreciate your videos. You, as a couple, are doing and experiencing what we see ourselves doing beginning sometime next year. Hats off to you for the time invested in making quality vids. I know it’s off topic, but I wonder if you have any knowledge about finding low-priced longer term car rental options in Italy/Europe? I remember coming across info on that topic a few years ago but can’t seem to locate it. Any help or experience there would be greatly appreciated.

We're so happy for you! All the best for the start of your adventure next year! All the French car manufacturers have great euro-lease programs for non-EU residents. You can pick up the brand new car in a selection of cities, doesn't have to be France. If you keep the car for over a month the numbers start to make a lot of sense. We reserved ours six months before pickup.
