No hate on any of the talented actors working on live action (or stage, for that matter) productions by the way, but anything you can act, you can animate, and animation will always allow for a more expressive, more creative portrayal of your story because it isnt bound by reality the way real actors are.

Like, they’re just reading from a script? That’s all voice actors do, if you hate English dubs then don’t attack the voice actors involved, they do nothing but speak, grunt, and talk for their jobs, and they need to get paid, too.
Putting anime out of the discussion, yes, as someone who wants to be a VA, it’s really disrespectful how the Oscars don’t have a voice acting award! While I hate the Game Awards too, at least they have some respect and honor for VAs. That is one of the few things that put them slightly above the Oscars for me, although they are bad too.

The Oscars talking shit about animation, saying how kids love it and adults suffer through it, has got to be the BIGGEST middle finger to the animation industry and community. Animation is a medium filled with powerful storytelling and artistically amazing visuals made through hard work. Many of our most beloved movies of all time are animated from How To Train Your Dragon to Into The Spider-Verse. Yes, kids can find these films enjoyable but so can adults too. Exactly! I'm working on a book at the moment about a girl who's missing a few fingers (my own disability) and I have already decided that if it becomes a movie, I want it to be animated. My hand is very unique and I don't want anyone using green screens and 'magic' to hide an actor's hand from the final CGI product. Animation is easier and you can make everything yourself. You don't have to rely on finding actors -- disabled or not -- who don't have the same disability.
Sorry if it sounds like I'm on my high horse rn, I just don't want to see disabilities butchered by live-action. Also there are hardly any movies or stories -- animated or otherwise -- that involve disabled characters as a main. (Hiccup counts, Nemo and Dory count, Elina from Fairytopia does not because she gets WINGS at the end, I don't count Toph and Amaya either because they're supporting characters (even though they're amazing (don't @ me))
I am so glad Harry Potter and Encanto kept the glasses, and Fullmetal Alchemist is amazing for that. I haven't seen many other shows or movies with/about disabled characters.
Animation is the perfect medium for disability to shine because you don't need to have actors pretend to be disabled when they're not, and some disabilities are too specific to find the right actor for.

If you want to know more reasons why the Oscars have a huge bias hatred to animation, Beauty and the Beast from 1992 is one of the main reasons. Turns out from a tweet from Variety, it turns out the Academy were concerned that a animated movie got nominated for Best Picture and that there's a potential it could win Best Picture so they wanted to make the "Best animated feature" category to prevent it from happening, and Chicken Run convinced them to do so (Heck back than, some critics claimed it was "Best Picture" nomination material).

Whether it was hand drawn, 3d drawn, filmed on print or filmed digitally. How did it make you feel? Does it leave you with anything? Does it inspire you? Does you remind you of good memories? Bad? Thats the beauty of any film making and refusing to acknowledge that just based on how its made does not lend any credit to their opinions. I do love seeing second hand the sharing of all those acceptance speeches that matter, and those should be the focus anyways to be honest. The Oscars are nothing but a slap in the face to truly deserving film makers and art...and the irony that they banned an actor who played an Oscar from The Oscars. I'm glad the Best Animated Feature presentation got the uproar response that it did. Animation isn't just for kids. Walt Disney created Disneyland for the young and the young at heart...well, the same can be said about animation. I mean, look at Disney's Black Cauldron and Hunchback of Notre Dame, just take a good look at those two movies and tell me that movie is "just for kids". Same for DreamWorks' The Prince of Egypt...is that a kids movie? Yeah, that's what I thought..it's for everyone! It's something both kids and adults can understand what's happening and the moral.
They're the same people who wouldn't want to watch a Nicktoon like Avatar the Last Airbender because to them at first glance, it's a "kids show" despite it bringing up not so kid-friendly topics. Never judge a book by its cover. There is nothing wrong with an adult watching an animated show or movie and getting deep into thought as to what it portrays

      @casualgameronline5890 Před 2 lety +13

Honestly, what determines "being made for kids" is a bit in flux right now. For so long, we've patronized our kids by assuming they're stupid and deciding that shows or movies that talk about serious subjects are "not for kids." Look, I'm all for saying that animation is a medium not just relegated to kids entertainment, but we also need to be careful about saying certain films are or are not for kids. Avatar and Prince of Egypt tackle serious subjects, but they do so in a way that is respectful of how kids think and process information. It opens the door to more serious conversations we should be having with our kids and does so in a visual medium to help begin understanding what these ideas mean. However, most parents don't want to have conversations with their kids at all, so, here we are. Animation is a medium we should be recognizing more for kids and adults. But more importantly, we need to see kids as capable of learning so much so that we can continue using media to make our messages to kids and adults more significant.

For one, editing is incredibly vital to how you feel about a movie. There is a long list of rules that need to be followed and factors that are put into the editing process and they’re all more important than most think. Editors are the sole reason why we’re able to sit through movies, both great and terrible ones. They deserve more credit than most actors, actresses, writers, directors, or producers out there.
Also, animation... A-are you serious? Do you know how much animation has contributed to the very beginnings of film? Do you know how many adult themes there are in animation, even in the version’s targeted at children? Do you know what some people had to go through so that animation could be a medium for adult content? Have you seen some of the mature and graphic things that have been made with CGI, Claymation, and traditional 2D/3D animation? Have you been on Adult Swim?? Have you been on Newgrounds?? Have you seen the kinda ways Disney villains have died??? Have you seen the legitimately televised show Happy Tree Friends??? C’mon, at least tell me you’ve watched something like Coraline before!

Alfred Hitchcock didn't win anything. He directed Rebecca which won best picture, but the award went to the producer of the film David O Selznick, not to Hitchcock.
The thing people don't understand is that the best picture Oscar awards the producer(s) of the film, not the director who is the person responsible for the quality of a film.
That's why the best picture category is so meaningless, in 1973, when The Godfather won best picture they didn't rewarded Francis Ford Coppola, who was responsible for all the decisions that lead that film to be so good (casting Marlon Brando and Al Pacino, shooting the film in dark lighting, focusing on the family drama, changing aspects from the book along with Mario Puzo to make it more cinematic, etc.) and instead rewarded Albert S Ruddy, an asshole who wanted Coppola fired from day one, and if it had been for him, the movie would've been a cheesy gangster flick starring Robert Redford as Michael Corleone.

I agree with you about the "We Don't Talk About Bruno" performance. It had me feeling so... disappointed afterwards. I suppose it shouldn't matter to me because I'm an adult and adults apparently can't like "kid stuff' anymore (although 18 still feels like a kid ;^;), but I still really love Encanto and WDTAB, and unlike others, I didn't know beforehand that it was going to be performed during the show, so when I saw that it was about to be performed, I became _so_ excited. I did like the first part of the performance, the one with the voice actors from the film. They were so good!! Then, the rapping started... and it got weird. Then, in the final part, when they just started singing about the Oscars, I felt really annoyed. I didn't need a song, _especially_ a WDTAB parody, to tell me how ✨ wonderful ✨ your ceremony is. If you _really_ want me to think your show is great, how about just doing the actual song in celebrating the movie it came from instead of turning into something more... vain.
But, I also agree with you about the good parts of the show. I felt really proud of and happy for Ariana DeBose. She deserved it so much, both as an amazing actress and a wonderful person. :)

Like, animation fans had to endure a Boss Baby nomination over movies like A Silent Voice or Your Name.
Also, half of the work that goes into animation don't have a category at the Oscars. Like Best Voice Actor, or Animation Director (since that's very different to Directing Live Action).

It's a huge shame that Disney as a corporation is so despicable that it leaves a smudge on a lot of their best recent movies, Encanto being a prime example. The creators of many of Disney's movies genuinely put a lot of care and effort into what they create, but still have to face being chained to their corporation, and victories that they deserve feel bittersweet at best because we know the corporate executives j**k off to those wins at the same time and don't truly care about the effort put into it. And with the Academy shamelessly shitting on animation the way they do and Disney not saying anything about it, it's clear that they just mooch off the money and fame of it all while the creators suffer the ridicule and poor treatment.
At least we can all agree it's better that Encanto won rather than Raya and the Last Dragon. Like, can you freaking IMAGINE how that would've gone down?

Thank you all for all of your work and dedication to making and refining art for all of us.

troy kotsur’s speech was one of the most beautiful i’ve heard from any ceremony and with the interpreter choking up as well i just sobbed. him and ariana debose (whose speech i also cried from) are absolutely the highlights of this year’s, i wish they got that recognition overall

I'm honestly surprised that, even if it didn't win, Mitchells vs The Machines got nominated. Like Spiderverse, it has a distinct style to it and even premiered on Netflix.

since the oscra don't even watch the movies they nominate if it had the disney or pixar logo slapped on onto it it would've won it in a heart beat

As much as I loved Spiderverse, I believe it only won because it’s Spider-man.
Don’t get me wrong, it definitely deserved that win, but when you know that win had nothing to do with what actually made it great, it just feels so soulless.

The best part about the moment they sung encanto (and i obviously mean the worst) is how they speak about how important is the movie to the latin american comunity and how well reciebed it was in colombia and such
And then they start singing the song in english
instead of, you know, the spanish version of the song
The lenguage of the culture the song is supossed to represent
