    I literally could ONLY hear Monster’s Inc during Marriage Story, I totally agree that it’s distracting. I found myself empathizing with Charlie way more, except during the “mothers are held to a higher standard” speech-that hit hard.

    • @PlaguedByEarth
      @PlaguedByEarth Před 4 lety +8

      Really? I empathized with Charlie even more during that speech. It was such obviously entitled bullshit! It's a speech given by the most evil, entitled monster possible. First of all, it starts off by inflating Mary's relatively small part into being the Entire Point of the bible just to make it all about women, throwing the rest of what's supposed to be a sacred text out just to gain pity points. That's the perfect symbolic image for how entitled women get during divorce, how quick they are to play victim, exactly like Charlie said.
      On top of that is the obvious untruth behind it. Women screw men out of divorce constantly. Mothers are almost always allowed to keep the child just BECAUSE they're mothers, even when the father is a much better option. It's the women playing dirty here, pretending at victim when they hold all the power.
      The worst part is that this evil woman giving the speech has actually convinced herself that it's true a little, just so she can use it to stroke her ego.
      She couldn't even allow the idea of giving 50-50 custody, she had to take 55 just to flaunt the fact that she has all the power, yet has the audacity to claim that the system is rigged against her!

    • @allurajane4979
      @allurajane4979 Před 3 lety +15

      @@PlaguedByEarth Wouldn't the fact that mothers are allowed to keep the child because they are mothers prove that mothers are held to a higher standard? They get to keep the child because they are expected to be perfect and the dad isn't. This probably also has to do with the fact that some people just think that a women's only purpose is to become a mother. Obviously the standards are going to be higher. No one has ever thought that a man's only purpose in life was to become a father.

      @Sharkbite Shitposts
      I think that doesn’t change the point. Mothers are still held to a higher regard/expectancy when it comes to raising children. Mothers aren’t automatically better at raising children than fathers, yet it is kind of expected that they are.

    Schaffrillas: Gets to spot number 3 without mentioning Jojo Rabbit
    Me: Aww, I honsetly thought that film was a masterpeice and it wasn't even given an honourable mention?
    Schaffrillas: Does the Spongebob Movie Gag about a film released in October
    Me: NO WAY
    But in all seriousness though, that sucker-punch to the gut you mentioned that changes the entire tone of the film...Taika will go down as one of the greatest comedy writers in the history of cinema.
    Ninja Edit: I feel it's worth mentioning that the plot twist wasn't funny. It was highly emotional and cements the film as deeply deserving of every word Schaf says about it.

    I still remember the first time I watched how to train your dragon. The forbidden friendship scene (The one where Toothless allows Hiccup to pet him for the first time) was so impactful to me, even as a dumb kid at the age of 7.
    It truly had a magical feel to it, that's the only way I can describe it. Yes I've seen the movie since but I only get a small portion of that feeling.
    If there was any movie that I could watch for the first time all over again, I'd want it to be the first how to train your dragon.
    The 2nd movie is my least favourite, though it wasn't a bad movie at all. I really enjoyed it, but it was all mostly action, and of course sadness :c
    And then the 3rd one. This movie made me cry in the cinema, something that I simply don't do. It had a scene which nodded back to the most iconic scene of the first one, (the forbidden friendship) and it made me feel like that same 7 year old.
    If they had played the same music that played in the forbidden friendship scene at the end of the film with the credits, i can guarantee you I would of flooded the cinema so I guess it's a good thing they didn't.
    HTTYD is truly amazing.

    I love the lighthouse. It’s just such a descent into madness that I can not look away. I love how raw it feels: when Robert Pat grabs the bird made me think Jesus this is what most movies won’t show me. And I love the ending: how it fits to any scenario: what he sees disappointed him and loses it because of what he did, or the light being to much for him as a mortal or whatever. I love it.

    The 2019 is kinda like Avengers Endgame, first and second act is like the first half of the year where they are good but kinda flawed, but the third act is where we got the greatest films of the year like Joker, The Lighthouse, Knives Out, The Irishman, Marriage Story, Uncut Gems and so on...

    I just love how you can stay so objective when you’re ranking these movies. You say you have more problems with one movie than the others, even though you place it higher on the list. That sounds like the mark of a really good movie reviewer.

    It's funny that people say the 2010s has nothing really DEFINING them as a decade. But that's their mistake. If anything, what marked, and defined the 2010s as a whole was *FILM.* The 2010s was an incredible decade of film making and I'm so excited to see where it goes from here. We had incredible break out moments for superhero films, to return to form films for animation, to incredible horror films, to films that showcased diversity in an incredible way. From Jan 1st 2009, to Dec 31st 2019 what marked this decade was the incredible art of film. And that's nothing to scoff at.
