    My 2nd channel - LITTLE CABIN IN THE YUKON
    When I'm not traveling in an RV or at home working on an RV, I'm usually at our remote, off grid log cabin in the Yukon. My husband and I have had this cabin for over 20 years and love it. If you'd like a look into that part of my life, I have a channel showing how we live there, lots of beautiful scenery and wildlife. So much of what I learned living off grid at the cabin has come in handy living in an off grid RV! The link is here-

      Helllo over there in NZ!! Welcome! I have a funny question for you...as I noticed a cat in your avatar, I was told by someone who had spent time in NZ that cats are not allowed there because of the birds. Is this true or was she pulling my leg?

    Absolutely fascinating story! I wish I hadn’t given away my metal detector! I wouldn’t mind finding a cache of gold! 😂

    • @HoneyandMe
      @HoneyandMe  Před 8 měsíci +1

      Wouldn't that be amazing! I wonder how many people have searched for this treasure. And also what the legalities of finding it would be. It's private land, so you'd probably have to share it with the land owner. And there might be some kind of 'law' about finding stolen money/gold. It would be interesting to find out. Trev, my husband has a metal detector he likes to take with us when we are travelling. Have you ever watched the BBC show The Detectorists? It's one of my favourite shows.

      @@HoneyandMe no I’ve never seen the Detectorists, but I have watched a couple of CZcams channels where they use metal detectors. My husband was given one, but after he died I gave it away. The first time I used it I found a sterling silver ring in a park. But I really rather enjoy watching others find things.

      @@Strandedinthedesert Sounds like you have done a fair bit of exploring! We have enjoyed the western states as well and ventured down to Texas last year. Really loved the hill country there. We did cross through Oklahoma on our way back north, but only briefly. We hit all the 'flat' states as headed home to Canada, but only spent a night in each, except for Kansas where we stayed a few days in Dodge City. They have a great museum there! There is still so much left to see in the US and in my own country. Never enough time though! All the best in your new home and happy exploring!-Sue

    I was thinking you better not sing more or you might get a copyright claim lol. I'm so excited to hear this story!!! Wow! Yup think I would go inside too. Gotta love some free wifi. I always take the clips off my phone and put them in my ipad ready for editing and I put copies of the unedited clips on an sd card. I do this after each full day of recording so I hopefully don't lose anything. And I just feel better having all my clips in two places. Oh wow what a crazy history. That's pretty scary. And people say it's just these days. Nope. People have been messed up for a long time. My goodness all that gold. Can you imagine finding that? Such an interesting history. Thanks so much for sharing.

      Hi Felicity! I learned my lesson the hard way last spring when we were in Texas and my portable hard drive stopped working! Some of my clips get uploaded to Google, but when we’re traveling that’s not always possible in cell. The hard drive will cost $1ks to get the data stored on it off. Lost so much. But, live and learn😞I loved this story too! The caretaker came and took me to this building to tell me the story and then found me some books written about it which I will be reading this winter. The world has always had its bad elements. Sinful nature and all that. But pretty creepy😮Thanks so much for watching!

      @@HoneyandMe I remember your hard drive corrupting. I felt very bad for you. Issues like that is why I try to remember to always have two copies. Then after I edit, I keep 3 copies of the edited video until I upload. Thinking I may start keeping a 3rd copy of the unedited too. Just in case. Some may think I'm paranoid, but I don't care. Too much work goes into this stuff to just lose it to a bad storage device. Really hope this never happens to you again. Oh and I gotta say, that sounds absolutely ridiculous for the cost to retrieve those files. I wouldn't think it would be that much work for someone that knows what they're doing. Do you still have the hard drive? My brother is somewhat proficient in computer technology. I will ask him if he knows how a person could retrieve the files. He may know something I can tell you to try.

    • @HoneyandMe
      @HoneyandMe  Před 8 měsíci +2

      @@HappyPlaceCampingThanks for the sympathy, Felix. I do still have the hard drive. When we got back to Canada I took it to a computer repair place and the guy there took a look. He even had a model of the inside of these hard drives to show me what had gone wrong. Sometimes, and it seems more often than not, something happens with the moving parts and things stop reading your files. The files are still on the hard drive, but they can't be read. He didn't have the facilities to get the files off of it and the places that do are very specialized. I'd have to send it to one and they then take it into a ultra special room set up for this. Sounds like it has to be totally sterile, no possibility of static electricity, and then do whatever they do to extract the files. The room is the expense. I guess it costs a lot to make one of these rooms??? Anyways, when I'm a famous YTer (LOL!!!) making tons of money from my channel and personal appearances (double LOL!) I will have the extra cash to rescue the files. Or when I win the lottery...whichever comes first.ROTFL! I would be interested in what your brother has to say though. I have since started using a Sandisk 1T SSD to store stuff. I was told it's really just a huge thumbdrive with no moving parts, so there is nothing to break. Time will tell. Take care!-Sue

      @@HoneyandMe May I ask, what is the brand of the one that won’t read? Really hope it’s not what I have😬 I’ll ask my bro and see if he knows anything about them.

      @HappyPlaceCamping Před 8 měsíci +1

      @@HoneyandMewell my brother said all that stuff is likely true. He said the only thing is if it’s working even a tiny bit some peeps have a software that may be able to pull off the files, but more than likely if they said all that to you, it’s probably not working at all and the whole static free thing would be needed. Wish I would have been able to offer up some better info 😔
